your server selection doesnt affect the menu afaik as it's all done through a web api in the background anyway, server selection is only for in-game servers

I generally pray for a good spawn to try and grab stuff like LEDX, Virtix, RFID etc, if I don't get a good spawn I either lurk around trying to get some smaller loot spawns and call in an exit with raiders, or try and chance it with a player for a headshot
Raiders are quite easy to game and get a headshot then you are suddenly geared up if you get a good one

after i just got my gtx 1660 super the game auto set it to high settings but it crashed evertime on 52% when joining on Reserve till i set my graphics to medium
so maybe try turning your graphics down
