I think you did fine by realizing that you were gonna lose the longer-range engagement and closed the gap. Once you peeked outside of the clothing store, i would have moved even further left to the benches/halfwalls then continued pushing forward (around the 45 second mark). You would have gotten much more of an advantage that way, and your killer wouldn't have been as easily able to re-peek you.

They would only hypothetically be able to pick up your gun but I’ve never seen a boss do that and most of the goons have two weapons so chances would be very slim

Going right gives you less options if SHTF, but it coulda worked out. Either way I think moving a little more or finding some more hard cover is the moral of the story here. As for the missed shots, with the ppsh and similar smg's that's bound to happen. Just gotta get even a bit closer and aim for center mass.

Overall you did okay! Big thing is just to keep moving, standing still or pushing straight forward is super dangerous.
