For Customs if you spawn West, your guranteed extract is ZB011 on the opposite of the map. Otherwise you’re going across the river tor Trailer Park or Road to Customs.

RUAF is pretty common too and is closer than crossing the river

That’s not a bad strat to navigate. Going center of the map is surprisingly less populated. Running the south wall has you crossing RUAF (a hot zone of scavs + a commonly used extract), Crackhouse (a PvP hot zone), Fortress (another PvP hot zone), and Old Gas (another choke point for PvP + an extra extract and several scavs)

North wall has you crossing dorms which can be a bit scary since you might bump into players in the woods, but past that point it’s pretty chill.

It’s never worth resetting in my opinion. Just scav if you’re broke. If you want to run PMC, go in with a double-barrel and a sling pack until you aren’t destitute. You need to learn that you can still bounce back from being broke to overcome gear fear.

Luckily 90% of the mines are clearly marked with signs on the map border. There’s just those two minefields near the USEC camp to watch out for. Once you’ve stepped on enough mines, you won’t be able to forget what that hillside looks like and you’ll be able to steer clear of it.

Is the hideout worth going into for your first wipe? I’m more interested in just learning the game and doing the quests that I feel doing the hideout too could be a bit too much

After you’ve played Woods a few times it’s not too bad to navigate, and surprisingly isn’t all that big.

Most of the areas are visually distinct enough to figure out your general area, then you can use landmarks like roads, powerlines, borders of the map, and mountains to orient yourself to where you’ve got to go.

I go Resort with a shotgun since it’s near guaranteed PvP. Sniping near Pier and Power Station is viable too, but I can’t stand waiting around for people (those places might actually have decent traffic right now with questers). Weather Station almost always has a PMC come by if you’re patient enough to camp it.

It takes time but you can use basic land navigation skills and have a good idea where you are in the map based on land marks alone.

If you get good at land navigation you can tell where you are based on the hill shapes

I’m a terrible shot and impatient so sniping rarely works out for me too. Just be prepared to die several times just trying to reach the Resort. I think I usually get most of my kills before getting inside the Resort during the initial rush.

Flechettes certainly can do the job, but Magnum Buck is most versatile, especially when you might be forced to fight at mid range.

Flechettes are amazing at mindlessly dumping into center of mass for kills, but with damage drop off you can end up hitting headshots at range which don’t kill. On the other hand, if a pellet of Magnum Buck touches someone’s face, they die since the base damage is stupid high.

Magnum Buck does require a bit of extra skill close up to aim for legs or face so armor doesn’t block your shots.

My advice to everyone is pretty much the same, you have two options.

1. Check everything using https://tarkov-market.com/ and the info it provides for quest and hideout requirement and for flea prices. It's otherwise impossible to know, without significant experience or asking other people every time, what you'll need anytime soon, or what sells for substantial money to other players. Then you can decide what things you'll need soon enough, and which items sell for enough, to hold onto. This is quicker in the long run and more profitable, but is tedious and more annoying in my opinion.
2. Check what you'll need right now, check what hideout upgrades you could do if you simply had the right items, and what quests you could do. Keep those things that you need at the moment, sell most everything else as space is quite valuable. You'll figure out what you need as you get to things, and learn through experience. It will be slower in the long run as you'll have to look for things you may have sold, but not as hoardy and you spend more time in raid.

The key to finding quest loot like gas analyzer is to make sure your mic is plugged in and loudly say to yourself “gas analyzers? who needs em? not me.” while loading into the game. This will cause Tarkov’s hidden desire sensors to malfunction briefly allowing you to loot them during your raid.

However, by mentioning you want to find them in this official Discord, the desire sensors have fully triggered and may take days to shut off on their own.

You have no idea how much you learn playing on standard edition for wipe. It makes you so much better at stash management and loot prioritization - tremendously helpful for any future wipes IMO

My advice to everyone is pretty much the same, you have three options.

1. Check everything using https://tarkov-market.com/ and the wiki links it provides for quest and hideout requirement and for flea prices. It's otherwise impossible to know, without significant experience or asking other people every time, what you'll need anytime soon, or what sells for substantial money to other players. Then you can decide what things you'll need soon enough, and which items sell for enough, to hold onto. This is quicker in the long run and more profitable, but is tedious.
2. Check what you'll need right now, check what hideout upgrades and quests you could do if you simply had the right items (Not locked behind other prerequisites). Keep those things that you need at the moment, sell most everything else. You'll figure out what you need as you get to things, and learn through experience. It will be slower in the long run as you'll have to look for things you may have sold, but not as hoardy and you spend more time in raid.
3. Set a particular goal - maybe two or three hideout upgrades you want and get your list of like 5-10 items together. Sell everything else. This is the most "to hell with inventory management" approach, and you'll certainly sell things that you'll need again or could have sold for more, but you'll spend all your time in-raid.

I don’t buy EOD because early wipe struggle is my favorite part of Tarkov; upgrading your stash, unlocking THICC case, and getting Epsilon are all awesome moments as a standard player— that, and I feel like paying $100 for in game advantages is absurd (but I kinda do get it if you want to help the devs because they do deserve it)
