I started playing today and was wondering how I find out what gun uses what ammo and which I should use.

in terms of what weapon uses what ammo, it says so on the gun when you inspect it, for instance 9x19mm or 7.62x39mm; when it comes to what you should use, try to use ammos that can pen level 4 armor, you'll have rather limited choices at your level. (here's a chart/site: https://eft-ammo.com/nofoodaftermidnight)

but at your level, anything that shoots 7.62x39 PS ammo should work great, besides that 7.62x54R (mosin rifle ammo) also works wonders, but bolt actions require you to land your shots
