There’s no straight answer for this because you’re always going to have to adapt. Buttttt a general rule I follow is that if I don’t have intel on an enemy and I’m not in a very secure position (ex hard cover on 3/4 sides of me and limited lines of sight elsewhere) I try to keep moving and be hard to hit until I locate my target.

If you would have sprinted out from cover to cover there’s a higher chance the enemy will miss, revealing their position to you instead of you being slow and quiet and hoping to see him first

There’s a higher chance he misses, there’s still a chance he sees you running and flicks on you.

I would rather take my chances using my full range of mobility and really testing their aim rather than being a slow moving almost stationary target that is very easy for them to line up shots on
