Then I also did a lot of offline raids to learn customs map to get myself started

Shoreline is massive. It is definitely larger than woods (at least Outskirts -> Sawmill -> Roadblock). But those two chokepoints are hard chokepoints. You must pass through them if you aren't going to resort
