Had a couple of 1 on 1's where I didn't hit the other guy while he killed me in 2 seconds. One was with a full auto AK at 5-10 meters and the recoil made it go all over the place - I was crouched in a dark corner but not behind cover. Second time I had a semi-auto STM, pushed the guy who had just killed my 3 teammates, popped 2 frags but didn't use my flashbang (which I should have), the STM has basically no recoil but the guy had deadly ammo from my dead teammate's and he strafed. Again, dead in 2 seconds and I missed all my 3-4 shots.

So both guns were basically useless (and I guess my aim isn't that good). Any tips? Any gun recommendation with a good combo of damage and minimal recoil?

My friends also advised me to pop a painkiller also before a fight when I know I'm about to fight, to minimize the bluriness when getting shot.

I had gotten a pimped up M4A1 from a PMC I had killed with a shotgun (lol) and the recoil also makes full auto useless except if less than like 5 meters.

I'm trying to win more fights, but other players are kicking my butt tbh

hey, welcome to Tarkov. Game is rough and unforgiving, which it seems you're starting to learn.

The AK series generally has high recoil, especially if its a 7.62 caliber AK. You basically need to either single-fire these guns or have attachments on them that reduce recoil, there's plenty of youtube guides for good budget AK builds

the STM is a single-fire carbine that fires a low-damage bullet - the 9MM - and it uh, just kinda sucks

Yeah, how close were you? Something a lot of new players dont know is that hip-fire actually will go in the same places as if you're aiming, only difference is no reticle because you aren't aiming down a sight. Use a laser or an IR searchlight and hip-firing is going to be better if someone is closer than 10 meters

I been playing my PMC nonstop. I used up all of Edge of Darkness starter gear, and have nothing left but a few Hideout items for contrustion. My pmc currently has 0 in the legs and they are broken, the left arm is 0 and broken, and the right arm is 0. My chest is 32 and my stomach is 100. I do not have the money to heal my PMC yet.
