Honestly just build your own preferences. Ex, whether you prefer armor with or without stomach protection and stuff like that. The only notable thing you need to learn about each armor is how they repair.

Also it is worth learning about armor destructibility, which is described at the top of the ballistics page on the wiki (!ammo)
