Weapons:

1. just the basic SKS. Its cheap, its good for long range onetaps on scav heads, it will always come back in insurance.
   1.1) the OP-sks, same as normal sks but it can take a scope from prapor lvl1.

2. VPO-136 Vepr (from skier): This one can take the bastion dust cover (can be bought from lvl1 traders) and with that a reddot or scope. You can also replace the handguard and put on a foregrip for some extra juice. This one takes the same ammo as the SKS and plays the same way, but it takes cheap magazines. Its a direct upgrade to the sks, but modded is around 50-70k

3. Any shotgun with buckshot will eat through someones face in one shot. Or aim for legs and fuck them up that way. Very cheap and effective.

4. Trade in knives for UMP/MP5 at peacekeeper if you want a low recoil/high firerate weapon.

Here most people play the basic SKS, its an absolute early to mid game monster on a budget. If you want something fancier take the VPO-136.

Armor:

1. PACA to not die to scavs.
2. 6B5-16 to not die to mid tier ammo from players.
3. Once you have Ragman lvl2, buy 6B3TM-01M or the MMAC carrier.

Headsets helmets:

I like the M32 headset from skier, and whatever helmet you can find. You dont HAVE to run a helmet, since you die in oneshot to the head in 9 out of 10 cases anyways. But if you have the money buy any helmet that has a high ricochet chance

@jovial marsh There is (almost) no wrong answer so any combination of everything these guys have told you will be a solid option.

SKS is good, iron sights are garbage tho IMO (as most iron sights are in this game), if you run SKS keep in mind you can buy detachable 20rnd mags from peacekeeper 1. Even if you don't want to pay for multiple (about 10k per mag), you can still topload with them and it's double the default mag size. Note: You can buy an OP-SKS for 30k from Jaeger 1 for 33k, that will let you put a dovetail mount sight on it.

7.62x39mm vepr from Skier is good too, same bullets, lower recoil than the SKS, and you have the option for a sight, foregrip, and flashlight/laser (Flashlights in this game are OP, they blind tf out of people.) I like this over the SKS because 30 rounders, about the same price if not cheaper than OP-SKS, more mods, and most importantly lower recoil as I said.

Shotguns. Point at face and click and even if you're a bit off, they're probably dead. Useless against armor (with the rounds you will be using for now) so beware the helmets.

SMGs. Don't even bother shooting at an armored body part, but the recoil on them is super low (depending on the recoil stat and firerate. Lower firerate=easier to control) so it's much easier to hit a face shot. Gr8 weapons if you're confident in your aim. Beware the helmets.

Armor is armor. Best armor you can get rn is a lvl3 rig from ragman for like 55k. Rig is small, but lvl3 armor is mostly-decent protection. If you want to wear a big rig you will need to either find a good vest or settle for a lvl2 vest for around 30k. Use the ballistics chart on the wiki to see how every ammo in the game stacks up against every armor level.

Backpack: Berkut is the biggest you can buy, 24k, don't settle for less. If you're broke enough to consider something cheaper just do a scav run. If you find something bigger in raid, be sure to use it when you've collected the gear for a decent kit.

@slim pumice I hate customs. Almost terrible for making money, but the map still attracts highly geared players specifically for Reshala hunting and dorms pvp/marked room. This, combined with the map layout and spawns, makes customs an ironic pvp map, which I would not call noob friendly. Unfortunately, you will be forced to go there at some point very early on for tasks, and quite a lot of them, which will probably make you hate the map because of how much you're forced to play it if not for the other reasons. But I'm not sure there even is a map that can be considered noob friendly in the first place.

Last time I went customs for a quest, my team8 was killed by a Lapua. Then the Lapua was 3rd partied by a UMP with AP ammo. I 1 tapped the UMP kid, and then was 3rd partied by a 2man using SVD w/ SNB, and a semi AP-20 shotgun. All of this happened within 5 minutes. Oh yeah and we killed a timmy within 45 seconds right before all of that. Conclusion: Customs is a terrible map and no one can tell me it isn't.

GL, map is very hard to learn. Might get yourself killed by not knowing player spawns or pathing in general. I would recommend doing a few offlines with a map/yt video on hand, and just spawn, run to jaeger note, then extract. This way you can get a feel for several spawns. Try to path safely by not walking in the open. Stay in the concealment of trees and foliage.

I don't think you do honestly. I pretty much never use a scope, plus buying scopes will drain your pockets a bit quicker starting out. Btw, don't take the fastest path to the note. Try to be careful when it comes to spawn areas, or paths from one loot spot to another. And whatever you do stay away from the lumber mill.

Considering you're running iron sights, any gun should be good enough for every range you'll find yourself firing from, with the exception of pistols. Pistols have a lot of bullet drop. But yeah with a bolt action, a sidearm isn't a bad idea.
