Its all preference. Use guns you like. Money is based on your survival rate. Armor usually gets better with the cost/effectiveness of your kit. But generally you want an established plan of what you want to do in combat (Headshot, armor piercing, shooting legs, etc.). For starters I recommend SKS with a 20 round mag in PS or better if you have better.

I would use up anything that isn't good with your sks kit. Doesn't matter too much what armor and the like you use. Just always bring a gun and 1 piece of other gear or scavs will hunt you down.
