I'd recommend to learn Woods, Customs and Shoreline since a lot of the early quests go to those maps and you'll need to learn them.
Otherwise, you can go to whichever map you like or know or have quests for.

They do not silence it per se, but they do a good job of suppressing the sound. Your best advantage of using them is that it makes it much harder to tell where it came from. Most times, if you are in the distance to see and shot an enemy, they will hear the suppressed gunshot but may not be able to triangulate where it came from. If that helps.

Some guns with subsonic ammunition and suppressors are near whisper quiet, but they tend to have incredibly heavy drop off to the bullets to the point you may need to be within 100m for it to be of any real use without aiming a few feet above them to hit them.
