To give you a basic answer. There isn't any correct way to learn the game. Try to have fun, or the grind is gonna get boring and long really fast.

You are build to die, so don't take stuff in you wanna keep. To learn maps you watch a map guide, try and find a few extracts in offline mode and then try and scav it. When you feel confident then try and do a PMC. The first map you should learn is customs (because of the many starting quests there)...

On customs inside Alamo there’s technical supply crates which will have them often but that’s a really hot area. Inside the various building on the silo side you will find a few more technical supply crates as well as tool boxes

Prioritize tool boxes and you’ll get it fast
