Well certain areas are better than others. For example, if you are looking for nails and bolts, you want to loot workshops & Toolboxes, like the storage areas on Interchange has a lot of these boxes laying around

Also an example at the start of the wipe people were making barter trades of croutons for key with tape which a new player has no idea of the value of that key and only knows that they need the croutons for a quest just saying

learning what's important loot wise is part of the process - it does get better once you can remove the clutter and low value items

not a mod - a slot for a mod. you could install night vision on that mask
