Use cover. Don't sprint everywhere. Take your time to listen and look. Be patient. If your raiding just to loot and extract, avoid directions you hear gunfire.

If you hear gunfire all around you...choose the path in which it is further away sounding.

Hoo boy, just bought this game last night and boy that learning curve is a learning wall.

First match, game defaults to factory (I think that's the name?), it's night time, indoors, pitch black, I have zero light sources and can't see anything - not even my gun 6 inches from my face. I'm stuck trying to navigate around boxes by listening to my footsteps not happen when I'm near a wall. After 10 minutes of blindly fumbling in total darkness, blam dead.
Is there any sort of tutorial or anything in game to introduce brand new players to the game? Just get dropped in a map and told "extract at <name of location>" but no way to know what that name corresponds to, much less where it is so I couldn't even survive a scenario even if I had the skill to do it.

I think factory is mainly for people trying to get used to pvp since it's a really small map, you will be running into people very often. I'm only level 9 myself so take my advice with a grain of salt but try playing on a bigger map where you can go at your pace. Look up a map and try to remember landmarks

I figured that. Or flashlights. The game was insistent about telling me the controls for flashlights when I was loading. Then the default loadout for the first game doesn't have one so 🤷‍♂️

I played two matches on Woods after that, once as scav, once as PMC, before I went to bed. Didn't see any non-bots as a scav and had no clue where to go to extract since no map, and PMC I got blasted in the leg by some rifle in the first 30s, limped for another 10s before getting finished off.

mhm woods is just a lot of trees so it can be hard to know where is north or south.. On my first run i killed a camping sniper with an sv 98 and ump but i ran around for an hour trying to find an extract. Ended up missing the extract by a few meters. That shit demotivated me for the whole day but this game is very hardcore. You either give up or learn from your failures.

Ammo is pretty cheap aswell, but the higher end ones might cost you more

if ur running a vepr, you should at least run m80 ammo

But the vepr only take 10 rounders or 5 rounders, so it's worth investing in good bullets aslong you dont carry like 50 mags

I usally run it with m61 or m62

m61 and m62 is a little expensive early on though, especially if ur getting them fro mthe flea

you should look up how many u need total for the hideout, and get that many, then sell the rest

also, it might be worth to check on the wiki which quests lead to more quests, as the ones that dont lead anywhere tend to be ones that you can do passivley as you just play the game, like just killing scavs on a map

Like "Polokim hobo" isent really worth focusing on, as it will get done as you just play customs

@bright plank You need to check all your trades and sell those items to them, for example, therapist takes meds, or random stuff like phones mechanic takes weapons/weapon parts, and ragman takes armor etc.
