i've been only playing customs trying to get use to navigation but have a hell of a time getting out alive

Practice offline on customs with PMC and scavs on. Try to make it from spawn to exit 10 times. If you can do it 50% of the time then try online. Use internet map (from the wiki) on 2nd screen. In the meantime while doing the PMC practice use Scav on Interchange to learn the map and get loot.

Tarkov isn't hard per se, what makes it hard for new players is what @waxen forge said. There's a lot to learn and you have to take it upon yourself to find the info; there's also a lot of experienced players you'll be facing

It's experience not level. I reset last wipe 1/2 way through the wipe. I was level 1 with low skills and starter gear against all the boys who didn't reset and were high level with great gear. I was able to complete tasks and get back up to level 40 something due to EXPERIENCE. @deft mulch
