Team can be good as you can cover more angles and such. However good communication is essential to teams as friendly fire is a thing.
Without good comms there is a hesitation before you shoot and if it's not your teammate you are dead.

You usually spawn as a scav late, either most people are dead or extracted. When you spawn as PMC you spawn at the same time as other PMC, they basically know the spawns and rush you down.

Scavs can be easily found around Scav House near the Outskirts exfil, around the mill, and from Spine towards the UN Checkpoint exfil
The mill area may be the most dangerous though since it's open if you are down among the buildings.
Otherwise you need to have head on a swivel. Keep alert, move quietly.

In that scenario I see what you mean. Old gas scavs are strange. Seem to spawn late (1/2 the time). I can see you going in there and then on way out they spawned.

You are going to lose a lot of gear. Gear comes and goes. You could use Pistol or buy weapons with the $ you started with. I'd say play offline to get a feel for the game.
