First off is I'm ofcourse new and wanted to know about 2028 and how the game in particular works.

I bought the game a while ago, played a couple of rounds but want to get back into it now.

What's a "scav" and "player scav"

And most importantly, how do I get over "gear fear" I suppose, it's the fear of losing all my stuff when I die, which I probably will..a lot.

Im unsure what you mean by 2028 bud but a scav is AI, they spawn in with usually low tier gear and have set spawns throughout the map, when you press 'escape from tarkov' you can play as a scav once every 10 minutes, this puts you in the game as a scav however you fully control it, the loadout is pre-determined and the AI scavs will no longer be hostile towards you. You dont have the ability to put any items in a secure container or pre-determine any loadout but its mainly used by players to go into a map, grab a few items to sell and then leave

other players can also appear as scavs, theres no way to determine which is which while theyre alive so you just gotta hope they dont shoot you OR play aggressive and shoot them first. Bare in mind that if you shoot at or kill another player scav OR AI scav the ai scavs in the immediate area will turn hostile towards you

I understand that EFT is PvP, is there a PvE version as well or will it always be a mix of PvP and PvE

I prefer PvE as I can play and progress at my own pace. I may have made a mistake by buying EFT. I want to confirm if the Russia 2028 version is included in this EFT game or will it be a seperate buy.

you should be somewhat cautious when it comes to your pmc; dying often isnt an issue as long as you're getting more familiar with the game/the maps you're running

For cheap reliable options veprkm and akms drop from scavs a lot. I always pick them up take them out of raid, put black polymer from prapor lvl1 or skier lvl 1 and voila good gun. 762 x39 ps and bs rounds are pretty decent. Even though 762 ps is still a underperforming round vs players because everyone thicc right now its strong for beginning wipe.

If you are trying to go for the cheap "sks" method

If you want a cheap semi gun that one taps chest, look no further than the vepr hunter or fal. M80 one taps chest quite frequently like as if you were using a mosin with 7n1. Same pen. 80 dmg zeros chest = 1 tap

@wise forum pestily is commendable, but you should learn from just experiencing the game and learning from the wiki.

If you watch other people play you just try to adapt to their playstyle instead of finding what you enjoy. Ultimately, just look up extractions, how to do quests on the wiki, and learn from your deaths. Take your time. Careful of the noise you make.

I suggest looking up maps though. Map knowledge is key.

Also, hire a sherpa to guide you.

Definitely change my view on cautious play rather than the rushy type made by streamer. Thank you man

@vague wind You would be surprised how much stuff comes back in insurance. Many people don't take rigs and armor since they take up so much space in a backpack. Helmets as well unless they are super expensive.
