you can press O once for the time on the top right. if u double tap O you will see your possible extracts

go on the wikipage of the map ur on and look at the map/interactive map and try to get used to the map its a bit hard at the beginning

i have been struggling to extract a lot due to just always being killed on the way to extract or someone camping it, is it smart just to wait out the timer and let everyone else kill each other and extract, and then i can leave?

ehh... u COULD, but i wouldnt recommend it. you'd end up waasting a lot of time each raid.
there are times where u know if someone is near ur extract u might want to wait another 5-8mins if u have questitems on you and dont want to risk it etc, but extractcampers are despite what people say not all too common. often times they're pathing towards the same extract you are

Get rid of the helmet, it barely protects you and reduces your hearing distance. Swap it to a GSSH headset/balaclava (naked heads stand out) optionaly with a ratnik or penis helmet. A PACA is a better option than the 6B2.
I'd sell the axe and leave the slot open so you can loot melee if you're that strapped for cash.
A Car medkit in your secure container or rig is a better option than three bandages and two cheeses imo
I'd bring a stack of spare ammo in your secure and remove the rear sight on that SKS, gives a somewhat better view.

some scav can spawn with the Gzhel-k armor which is a T5, a bunch often have some T4, but also BMG.50 is only 26 pen so if you're unlucky with penetration you could hit a lvl3 armor 3-4 times before it goes trough the plate, then also you gotta account for arms and or stomach hits reducing your damage a lot
