I personally rock the tactec, you can pick it up for around 210k if you buy the barters at cheap. Takes a bit of sniping but definetely doable.
As it's a tactical rig with 18 slots, 1 slot of rig is worth 1k on flea, so you save 18k, setting the price for the armor alone at just over 190k.
For a class 5 thorax only armor with 111 eff durability and UHMWP, it's a beast I think.

Best way to start is to learn the layout of the maps one by one then focus on questing. You can use practice mode or scav runs to do this (relatively) risk free as scavs aren't supposed to shoot other scavs. Use a map like mapgenie, tarkov dev or the wiki to try and orient yourself and try to find your extracts. Just getting out of the map for now should help you build map knowledge.

Don't wory too much about PVP and quests untill you get a good idea of where you are and where you are going, I'd recomend customs as your first map as a lot of early quests take place there. Factory is the PVP map of choice due to being so small and the loot not being that amazing but it's one of the easier ones to learn due to how small it is, scav there a bunch to learn the layout. Woods as your third map to unlock yaeger, orient yourself by the location of the sniper mountain.

The secret to killing scavs is to break line of sight once they have spotted you, they are dangerous the longer they see you but "reset" once line of sight is broken for a moment.

For weapon choices ammo matters a lot, you will want to use armour piercing rounds since most people this late in the wipe run class 4 and above. The legs can't be armoured and damage inflicted on destroyed body parts spreads to other parts of the body, allowing you to "leg meta" even heavily armoured enemies by magdumping their legs with high damage/RoF weapons. Bookmark the balistics page on the wiki to check what ammo is good for what.

Finaly don't be afraid to hop into the voice channels lower in this discord for help, join a channel for the map where you want to do something (eg a particular quest) and ask for help, most players won't mind a detour or two. Avoid randoms in the in game groupfinder because teamkilling can be rampant at times. Only join pre made groups that you are in voice chat with.

For what items to loot and keep, there are too many to keep track of, you'll learn in the long run what to keep and what to discard. For now keep tabs on what you need to upgrade your hideout

It's my first month and the only suggestion i have is going for the interchange map (the shopping mall). it was the perfest start as there are 2 extracts on the scavs that you can always use - less random and imo it's much easier to find where you are on the map just by reading the shop names. Also loot on this map is almost always on a shelf or in some kind of openable container, much more consistent than on Customs

btw ^ this is not a legal advice, I just started grasping things quicker when discovered interchange

Goshan on interchange in particular should be interesting for you when starting, tons of food spawns that often are not looted by other players. Stuff your face with as much food/drink as you can to level up metabolism (increases the time before you get dehydrated/exhausted). Also some quest items like tushonkas can easily be found here.
