Having to actually try to figure out what faction they are and using forcing more interaction, trust, and deception between players is far more interesting to me than, "light'em up, Johnny."

Deciding whether to trust them, engage them, avoid them, etc. All these things are technically do-able in the game already, but they aren't pushed to the forefront at all. It's more of a result of the flow of a raid than purposeful mechanics being built to encourage such behavior.

Recoil in this game is all about the initial rise.
If you full auto the first few rounds will cause significantly more muzzle rise, then it will steady out quite notably.
As a result, burst fire is like the worst thing you can do in this game. You either commit to the full-auto, or keep it semi
Just practice pulling down for the initial recoil and then becoming more gentle as it mellows out.
Practice mode with lots of scavs is great for this muscle memory, as doing it online usually involves a lot more panic

full-auto is vital when you're up close, and the other fundamental mechanic that goes with it is hipfiring
Go watch any pros and you'll see how often they hipfire, it makes aiming up-close in full-auto so much easier. So practice that in practice mode as well, you'll thank yourself later

Look up a video tutorial of labs that shows you key locations. After that take a decent kit and go into offline labs where AI is set to higher difficulty and ammount. Run around the map and practice fighting the raiders.

For extracts easiest way is just find any YT video. They are very simple.

Car/Paid exfiltrations are really good for Karma, Woods/Interchange/Customs/Lighthouse has one each, will give you +0.25 with diminishing returns (+0.25,+0.12,+0.06, etc)
You can also do co-op exfils (PMC+Scav), those are much harder to do due to having to trust a random player, but those also give you the initial +0.25 then diminishing returns like the Paid exfils

Is there any gameplay benefit to running higher cost mags, i.e. a 30rd PMAG vs 30rd AR-15 mag

It says the pmag has 35% check speed modifier but from what I can tell it’s just as fast to check as the ar-15 mag

The tasks are what give you progression. Completing tasks gives you rep. You just need to hit a certain level, have a certain amount of rep, and have a certain amount of money bought/sold/gone through that trader. If you pull up the trader screen, the requirements to level the trader are in the top right.

I highly recommend mapgenie for Tarkov maps because it's customizable and has names of locations for the map as well. When I was learning, I used the filter on the left to hide all & then only had it show spawns, extracts, location names, and scav spawns. Used that combo learning every map and it made it a hell of a lot easier for me.
