I’d start in Woods or Customs
Woods is harder to learn but safer.
Customs is easier to learn but more dangerous.

Use these maps - they'll look cluttered at first. Hit "Hide All" on the left-hand toolbar, then scroll down and only toggle on "Extractions" and "Locations". That'll give you a pretty good look - feel free to toggle on some loot options as you go

Head into a practice mode on one of those maps, toggle on some AI scavs, and try to get a feel for the map, movement, gunplay, scav killing, etc.
When you're ready - try to scav into one of those maps and actually get some loot out.
Then you can take your PMC in and try to do some quests or loot or simply survive.
Good luck - you will die, try to have fun with it.

The base gun as you buy it from traders often already has some of the features you'd otherwise buy seperately

So buy the base gun, rightclick and edit preset, load your preset, assemble.
Alternatively, buy the base gun, go to your preset menu, select your bought gun and go from there.
