a gun really wont matter for you until you have access to good ammunition and mods...and that wont be for a pretty long time from where you are at

If they don’t know you’re there, camping the body is always an option. However positioning is everything. A good player won’t rush the body, but flank around it and check likely spots for a teammate to be hiding. Either counter their flank, or reposition yourself somewhere they wouldn’t expect, either an ambush where you expect them, or a place to see your friends body.
As you can guess by how important positioning is, map knowledge is critical.

For anything in scav boxes, because nobody but you knows where you're at in terms of quests or hideout, or what barters/crafts you're trying to save for, you have 2 options. It's otherwise impossible to know, without significant experience or asking other people every time, what you'll need anytime soon, or what sells for substantial money to other players.

Option 1) Set a particular goal - maybe two or three hideout upgrades you want and get your list of like 5-10 items together. Sell everything else. This is the most "to hell with inventory management" approach, and you'll certainly sell things that you'll need again or could have sold for more, but you'll spend much more of your time in-raid.

Option 2) Check everything using https://tarkov-market.com/ and the info it provides for quest/hideout/barter/crafting requirements and for flea prices. Then you can decide what things you'll need soon enough, and which items sell for enough, to hold onto. This is quicker in the long run and more profitable, but is tedious.

For example, if you were checking 'Bolts' you would type it in and see this screen. You could then decide if any of those quests or hideout upgrades are close enough to save for, or if the extra money you'd get on the flea would make it worthwhile to hold onto until you hit level 15.

"Good" ammo is dependent on what you're doing with it. High damage is good for leg meta. High penetration is good for tough armor. I wish people said exactly what they meant.

And a high flesh damage ammo, while you may never use it, if it's found in raid, might sell for a lot on the market. So if someone tells you it's "shit" because it's low pen, you might sell it to Mechanic and lose out on thousands of roubles.

But there's good ammo for legs, and there's good ammo for chest. There's good ammo for close range, and there's good ammo for long range.
In my experience, most people use "good" interchangeably with "high pen" and give high damage the label of "bad". I wish that was not the case.

Just run reserve and run to medical and pick the items up when someone else opened the rooms before you already if you solo and dont want to purchase keys yourself. Helps to go at the end of the raid, quest items wont disappear anyway!
