Creating even more of a burden on mods. That's why the rule is there.
Yeah, I understand why it's there
oh that looks delicious
couldn't find any celery though π¦
what's in it?
See what? <MIB flash>
Hydra's amazing cooking skills obv
potato, green/white/red onion, cucumber, bacon, chorizo
Sounds good
No blood?
dressing with plain yogurt, mayonnaise, balsamic vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, celery salt and pepper
Blegh mayo
Very nice and yeah fresh celery would have added that crunchiness to it but it still looks good!
not that much mayo
How is mayo blegh????
cucumber is crunchy-ish, as are the onions
True and it still looks and sounds delicious!
There's a Spanish dish quite similar to that, we call it 'Russian salad', which doesn't make much sense tbh π
I think a lot of European countries have russian salad, I've had a lot of it on my trips to the Netherlands
Didn't know that. Never seen it outside of Spain. But then maybe the name makes some sense
In northern Italy/SouthEastern France they call it a "Piedmontaise"
or whatever the equivalent italian is
The only one I've heard of "Franzosiche" salad in Hungary which I'm assuming is French salad?!
or a salad by a guy named Franz
So western Europeans call it Russian salad and Eastern Europeans call it French salad π
Maybe Franz Ferdinand made it
he was Austrian though
They're neighbours
Weren't they Austro-Hungarian or something back then though? The Haupstadts? I forgot the name now let me google this
oh this is also true
Habsburg
oops I totally thought that was popcorn at first glance lmao
So... We had a reservation to a restaurant, now it's closed due to lack of staff, as most of the staff is in quarantine due to COVID π¬
oops
Well, at least they're taking it seriously.
But they probably have to, they're listed as one of the top restaurants in the country. Sadly another one in the city was fully booked today.
π driving in Lapland with a few bugs
must get car detailed
Hell yeah
shogaf ? (smoked lamb)
lamb, chicken, x3 different peppers, baby potatoes, roasted carrot and celery π
@dusty sleet
Also done mushrooms for my friend but I don't eat them so I didn't put them on mine π
similar to what I ate today, I had smoked shogaf and kebab, sadly no pics π
that sounds so good hehe!
One of those those I ate it too quickly to take a photo of sort of thinngs?
I'm like that fajitas
They last for around 25 seconds around me LMAO
I was cooking it for more than 3 hours so I was so exhusted to think about taking pics lmao
I am buying a big wood chunk tmmrw so I can use it as a plate
Hahaha I feel you on that
OOH nice!
similar to this but bigger
We have Plankstek in our household all the time. Serve it on a big wooden plank it's so good
Plankstek & Fiskplanka chefs kiss
italian cheff kiss
oh no why is discord refusing to upload
but yeah that is plankstek -- sooooo good
That looks familiar
How about this from ten minutes ago? (Just past midnight)
Mmh. Although where I am now, the sun still sets.
looks like a ski resort
I miss skiing
Well it is, Ounasvaara in Rovaniemi, Finland.
How long does the night last in there? By night I mean actual darkness π
Over here there's dusk for an hour and a half at the moment. No actual darkness. Where I'm heading next, the sun will set on July 21st.
Damn... that must be odd to experience for the first time
Well I was born around these latitudes, it's not that impressive to me π
haha I guess
Just like I was visiting Switzerland, the people there said "mountains are meh, sea is the thing to see"
What is exotic for some is completely normal for others, makes sense
Yay sunset β€ I love love this!!
I'm used to see mountains, lots where I'm from, but not as high as what you see in the Alps, so I still ended up being amazed by those
many more happy returns of the day @lapis dagger π°
.
wait , @lapis dagger i'm also from india
Do we live in the same place?
Dammit I forgot to attach the picture
It's so much worse in the License plate region lol
Driving last night it was like my windshield was getting hit with rocks. I think I used half a tank of wiper fluid
I dread to imagine what your radiator/ac grill/filter looks like π
I hate how discord crops your view and then uncrops when uploading the images
Try driving down in florida swampland with bright off-road light bars running. It's like a hailstorm of giant insects
@tawdry dove I think I was eating last night next to Nili I think you mentioned.
Dinner with a view
Is that a Subaru?
Thinking of washing car? Oh it's pollen time. Pollen time over? Bugs everywhere...fml
I was in Monongahela. It was brutal
Yep. 2015 outback 3.6r
Poor BMW
Especially when it's a Volvo
Awesome, I've been rockin' a 2017 forester. Not a huge fan of the CVT but otherwise it's a great car. Glad I got it when I did with this chip shortage lol. Nearly impossible to find new ones up here
Volvo? Hmmmh I was sure it's a bmw or a skoda
I've been eyeballing the crosstrek a bit, though. I kind of like it
Yesterday waa the first time in perhaps 5 years I swam in natural waters π
I don't think the CVT is as bad as everyone claims. The OG ones were absolutely garbage but the ones they use now are fairly solid it seems. Personally, I think the subaru purists are just really salty about not having a 5MT anymore
Oh for sure, it's not the reliability for me, it's the response time from it that I dont really like. They have really come a long way
Mmmm Nili. My favorite Finnish restaurant. and the only one I've been to
Also, that new green color they rolled out is just.... π© π
Agreed. The timing is a little weird to get used too with the spool up of the CVT
I gotta pre-plan my sanic acceleration lol
Lol
Nabo next to it was good as well. And it was only our third choice after Sky Kitchen & View (closed due to COVID quarantines in staff) and Gustav (fully booked for yesterday)
Yeah, the CVT isn't my issue with it. It's the fact that subaru put 18 inch rims on a vehicle that is supposed to bring you places other vehicles can't get
Now I have to spend probably $1200 to drop a rim size
Yeah, I noticed that when my forester was next to my mother's 2021. I had the same thought, like what are they doing?
Yeah we totally didn't expect to be able to walk in without a reservation at Nili. We drove down from Alta and were like, "let's just walk in and try"
I keep getting the new outbacks confused with the foresters, too. They just looks so similar now
Try an Outback next to an Ascent
I've been looking at lifted outbacks and they look almost identical if you look quickly
Gustav is 5/5
Never been to Nili, since most of the food is just fancied up food of the stuff I grew up with
name this channel food already lmao
Yeah, had a reservatipn there, covid messed that up, now it messed up the other reservation as well
If you're travelling across Lapland Aanaar is also a good place to stop and eat
But yeh, Gordon Ramsay visited Gustav last fall/early winter and was "This is good stuff"
yep, I know about the place. Not sure if they're open though π
Their website says they are
Yep, looks like it. Now pondering if π It's likely worth it.
Also if you're still in Rovaniemi and like pizzas, try out Pure Pizza
We're already at KaunispÀÀ. Aanaar is pretty close by now.
And SaariselkΓ€ restaurants... aren't that special π
Ooh nice places. When I was a child we went to KiilopÀÀ many times. Also the spa at SaariselkΓ€ π
For the scenes and atmosphere, this is one of my favourites. For food, not so much π
We have a place to dig for gold around there too
Though I havent had the time to go there for many summers
Trivia knowledge; The Bachelor s21 was partly filmed there
oh no π
SPeaking of chip shortages, motorcycles are hard to come by right now too
good
Well, I sent them an inquiry about availability of tables. Lessee π
Am glad I got in when I did. :D
Alright, waiting for that food review
Pretzels, anyone?
It's traditional German but I made a garlic butter baste for it and layered the smoked sea salt over it.
looks like a snake
Sorry, no availability π¦
I did another
SNEK EGG
Aww shame
No eat snek
Bred snek is not snek.
Also, if snek doesn't want to be eaten, snek should stop being so delicious.
Varg sleeeeeeep
π
looks good
Hows it going everyone
You are just trying to justify you eating snek without snek's consent
Grilled p-chop and grilled veggies
I thought you were eating out of a cardboard box for a second
That's def what it looks like at first glance
looks delicious
naw that is the grilling pan so my veggies don't fall in
same lol
Yep once I looked closer I realized it was the same one my mother has for the grill
got it for christmas, this is the second time I used and it is really great
I like it because you can cut the veggies first, will have to try broccoli and cauliflower
Yeah do florets only, unless you really like stalks.
The broccoli florets get nice and crispy and start to separate. The cauliflower gets nice and soft with a little crunch
30 days of non-stop hacking π₯ Made it to the Global Top 5000! π₯³ π Next goal: Top 2000 π
ayyy awesome! :)
You act like that's a bad thing.... Pizza lives in cardboard boxes. π
great job
i wanna make it to top 10 lmao
jus started rn
I recommend having a constructive conversation with your parents then
Show them salary figures for cybersec professionals
then install Debian and add Kali repos+packages
Your Mum knows what Kali and Vmware is ? My parents barely know how to switch a laptop on
she is an electrical engineer
as the main os?
oh fair enough I guess
ye
yeah
use kali-undercover? π
or, as James suggested, have a conversation with your parents. That's the smart way to solve it
Especially when the salary figures come out
If you have to hide a very lucrative career from your parents, there's a problem
Especially when you have safe environments like THM to try it out in, where you're fairly safe from mis-steps that'd get you in trouble.
Of course- like most tools, it can be used for good or evil. We're big on doing things ethically here. Don't do bad things with your tools or knowledge
Got sub two days ago Iβm coming for you

Catch me If you can ππ Waiting for youπ

or you can ask your Mum to get in contact with one of the members of Staff and make sure for herself itβs safe for her child to be exposed to this material @indigo garnet
@velvet walrus can you send me your banner in dms lmfaoo
yo that banner is π₯
UK People, appreciate if you could retweet this. Not for my ego but because more people in the UK need to understand how technology works and more about marginalised groups
https://twitter.com/bee_sec_san/status/1415050903808135171
Having an id requirement a common argument that people make and claim that would make discussions more civil. As if. You know what people say with their own name and face.
Requiring it in the UK just means people will VPN outside the UK.
cue a requirement for banning VPNs
simple solution, don't use social media
You know what people say with their own name and face.
Just reminded me of this. Not quite relevant to the discussion on having ids and all but yeah
ID checks would be a barrier to service, which I doubt most social media platforms would want to make mandatory for everyone. It hurts people and the platform, and I doubt it would have much affect on discourse. If you choose to use social media, you open yourself up to speech you may not like or agree with; an ID requirement isn't going to change that.
which I doubt most social media platforms would want to make mandatory for everyone The petition is a call to government action
So it'd be mandated. The platform would either comply, or stop serving the UK.
That is really unfortunate. I don't know much about how Govt operates in the UK. Do petitions like this actually make headway there?
Thats a neat process, can it be brought up again with another petition or is it dead in the water now?
I think it can be brought up again, but it's kinda clear it'll be rejected for the immediate while
Thanks for the info, hopefully the issue falls to the way side until people can become more educated about all the implication that come with something like that. The UK has a habit lately of voting for things without thinking about how it will affect them
Gave +1 Rep to @burnt night
It's non-technical people trying to write technical laws without consulting the experts.
It's a tale as old as time itself, and pretty much everywhere.
UK is at least in the process of rewriting the main piece of "hacking" law at the moment though, with consultation open.
Which law? I tried searching it but only got hits for the GCHQ piece from many years ago
Computer Misuse Act
This is all I could find https://inews.co.uk/news/technology/cyber-crime-and-hacking-law-to-be-formally-reviewed-priti-patel-announces-996092
Yea
Bee tweeted about it, but I don't think they're around RN
Thats great news tbh
https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/computer-misuse-act-1990-call-for-information Here's the official doc for it
Interesting; thanks for this, I'll be following it closely. Hopefully they make meaningful change. I wonder how many people have been affected by this law that weren't actually malicious.
US has a similar system
I think its 100k signatures? And the executive branch has to respond
At least here, they can 100% respond by dismissing it outright. Simply a "Nah we ain't doin this"
Yeah, pretty much the same. The executive will write a long winded no most of the time
Wonder if theyβll sort out port scanning being a grey area
looks good, don't get relish on your fancy keyboard
of course not
Good looking weiners
I should have chopped a bit of onion too - addition for tomorrow
don't forget the kraut
Juun, I think you have the same mouse and keyboard I do
Work paid for mine π we got a WFH stipend around June last year

sure friend
thank you kind sir

Huh so apparently we're supposed to get hit by a Solar storm today/tomorrow
wasnt she the person who was exposed by a football plare on twiter or smthn... According to Priti Patel's logic the police owning a gun to fight crime is also illegal
@velvet walrus Let's try to avoid politics here.
all good mb
God knows
I was only looking for info on the discussion previous
Good morning everyone
does internal traffic (127.0.0.1) count as the "transfer" quota cloud services limit?
@lapis dagger
haiiiiiiii
ghost ping
:)
ah so got it
King crab soup followed by perch
why is that so less π
The plates are just huge π
oh lol
also, I need to up the ratio of food posts on this channel
Because not 'Merica
I know many fancy places in america that serve with plate to food ratio off
Yeah the hoity toity places
last time I went to an Applebee's they were super bad about it
The only reason to go to Applebee's is the alcohol
Either that or it's the only thing to do in the area... Like Vermont
Usually when I go to dinner with my coworkers from 'Merica, they order extra sides with everything. I find that odd π
That is odd
"Hey I need fries with that spaghetti dish" π
depends on the side, but fries and spaghetti is gross
when I was in Asia, I usually had to order more food than normal just to get full
Yeah that I can understand but the fries is weird and not normal
Sides is the American version of tapas. π
Jalapeno with bacon?
I thought they were breaded?
They can be breaded and fried, but I prefer not to
you've already wrapped it in bacon, also frying it is like.... a hat in a hat.
America is #1...in obesity.
Bbq bbq bbq
hot pot!
I think this is not correct, the correct ranking is around #14.
It's topped by small island nations.
Gib doggo hot pot
nanner only gets people food on her birthday and on thanksgiving/xmas
Hahahaha am hungry ππ
so, i wanna install kali on a vm, but if my parents see kali they'll beat my ass i need advice
because they'd be pissed if they saw me learning hacking
halp
@burnt night
@indigo garnet We literally answered this less than 24 hours ago.
You're not going to get different answers by asking again.
you did?
i'm dumb
thx man
Gave +1 Rep to @burnt night
well, they want me to learn coding, and have actually put me into java camps before i start high school (cuz that's what they teach here) but my mom will just say "you don't understand & don't need it"
Then it's up to you to disprove that.
But you should not be hiding that sort of thing, and we won't help you with it here.
my mom isn't exactly that open minded
at all
i'll try my best to be diplomatic
Show that you do understand, and there's a lucrative career path.
ok
thank you
What country are you? If you want to answer. Look up the salary for your area for cyber security jobs and make a little presentation
Show how understaffed the security sector is and talk about job stability
Security is one of few fields that actually grew during the pandemic too.
Add the word Ethical and mention Cyber Security Professional as a job. π₯³
wow this is helpful
so, my dad is more chill and i did tell him i wanted to learn ethical hacking and he still kinda freaked out
I think you said your mom was EE. Talk about how cyber security plays into that career field as well
i did, thank you sir
Gave +1 Rep to @tawdry dove
So the question is, why do you want to learn cybersec?
Show THM, HTB, etc to them as well
it seems like a fun field, and i think it will give me a new insight into problem solving, because aren't hackers the people who built operating systems and the internet?
Not really, no.
either way, it will give me some form of insight as to how software works
No that was mathematicians, physicists, and engineers of varying disciplines
alright, well then i'm going to find reasons to why i should/shouldn't learn cybersec
It can? But not really. Security as an aspect of enterprise management really isn't as technical as you think. 99% of the time, security is very boring. The 1% of the time it isn't boring is the time that someone (possibly you) is going to have a very bad time of it.
i also wanna mention that i want to work as an analyst when i grow up
specifically an intelligence analyst
If want to understand how software works, start with a language and go deep with it until you have to learn hardware. Then you can start learning where the corners are to break stuff
ok
Intelligence analysis and software are two very, very different things with only a bit of data science in common
Just be aware that's some, not all, intelligence analyst positions will be looking for prior military service in MOS' such as MI, Cyber, etc
If thats the type of intelligence you're referring to
Ok.... That's pretty much what I just told you, except in a lot more detail. Software development experience is not necessary.
A lot of organizations have roles that aren't explicitly called 'intelligence analyst' but lump those tasks in with the SOC analyst role. In my experiences interviewing SOC analyst candidates, most of them have a great deal of experience in sysadmin or network log analysis and very little programming experience, except whatever bash or powershell they picked up along the way
Threat Intelligence Analyst, that is quite different from the Intelligence Analyst you see in movies. π
Patriot Games π
I don't know how old you are but all of the government agencies, at least in the US, have high school programs to allow kids to see what the work is like
hold on lemme choose a career real quick
There are also high school level competitions. Maybe see if you can get a teacher on board and start a club
i'm going from middle to high
i'm in summer from 8th grade to 9th grade
at a speech and debate camp during break
Information Assurance, might be a job title a little less frightening to your parents.
π
everything frightens them
everything
Don't sweat it too much, your young. The cyber field is going to look very different by the time your ready to take up the profession. Get good grades, enjoy being a kid for a little while.
much wise
ok ok, you dont know me but
-
i'm preparing for a rigorous math competition, trying to make the top 5% (my parents are psychopaths)
-
my mom (is probably) bipolar, as proof i was in a car ride and she switched between i love you please do us proud do well to goddamn, you never do anything around the house
-
my dad also wants me to do coding (he's more chill than my mom but still has anger issues)|
-
at some point in high school i'm going to do f=ma, a physics olympiad
-
and this is summer
i'd say i lost my innocence by age 8
i'm now 14, and ppl around me say i'm a 40 year old man in a teenager's body (which idk man)
bruh no
tbh that doesn't sound like bipolar. The episodes tend to be way longer than minutes and hours.
ok, she has completely irrational mood swings
is that a better term?
look man, ur parents are trying really hard to do the best for you, you will come to appreciate that above all this in following years, you will realise how rare and precious that is
for now
enjoy being a kid doesnt mean acting silly
I guess it is.
That sounds rough, have you thought about talking to someone you trust about it? It must be a lot of pressure on you.
if u can be productive while also being noisy be it
i have 2 close friends & you guys
the main reason i'm using thm is because
well no good reason
i need a hobby man
As someone who also grew up with overbearing parents, I can say they likely mean well, even if they don't always go about it in the right ways. They are just people too, and people make mistakes. Its important to talk to people about it, if only to keep yourself from imploding. Your in a really tough age, because you want to set boundaries with your parents, but you aren't really allowed to because they don't see you as "grown up" enough.
i am full well aware of that, and i understand that my parents try the best. it's just that, no matter how much motivation and intent, the means by achieving them have to be taken into consideration
What you see as irrational mood swings might indicate stress on their part. Whatever the reason - but as @tacit yew said, they're also people. They have their limits.
parenting is hard
And to handle other responsibilities on top of that, it can be hard to handle.
whatever you do will backfire
Hence the boundaries. You may be discinclined to, but I went to a school counselor for a similar situation and it was really helpful to have a 3rd party involved to sort of mediate both sides. You get the oppurtunity to be heard, and your parents get the insight of another adult that doesn't have such a strong emotional interest
that's great but
what school?
it's summertime
my main grudge towards my parents is not teaching me how to behave as a child, rather just slapping me until i cried. i didn't know that what i was doing was bad, and now i don't see them as respectable role models. the truth is, they can't agree with each other. they are physically incapable of it. any time they do, they're just cracking down on me and my brother.
Nothing is solved over night, sumemr is almost over and a whole new chapter in your life will start when high school begins. Just hang in there, talk to your close friends about your situation, and try to remember that your parents only want the best for you. No 8th grader should have to be the adult in the family, but when you have highstrung parents with impossible expectations, you kind of have to be. It does get easier, just hang in there.
as soon as i'm 18 i'm just going to leave
the main reason i'm even on THM is so i know that i'm doing something on my own, i have a hobby where i can work with a wholesome community to sharpen my skills with, something to distract me from my life
my life consists of math, coding, physics, speech & debate, and whatever my parents decide for me (plus some minor weightlifting in my spare time) according to my friends,
i
have
no
Life
which is why i got interested in pentesting. it just seems like it would be fun for me
and i'd hate it if even that was restricted
Pentesting is a lot less fun than you are expecting. Because you will be expected to produce a report that has meaningful value. The activity itself is a lot of fun, but then the report writing has to be done. It is, without a doubt, the most critical part of the entire activity and often the part that is implemented the worst. If you want to be a pentester, awesome, but realize rhetoric&writing is at least as important as technical depth.
i'm a fantastic writer. every english teacher i've ever had + my dad + my brother loves my writing, and i have (i don't mean to be arrogant and toot my own horn here) some good linguistic capabilities, so if you're talking about reporting what i did to a manager, i will enthusiastically
or am i totally misunderstanding here?
technical writing is a different skillset than creative writing
But being good at the latter does lend well to the former.
i'm good at explaining things and i'm good at debate
as of right now, i just want to talk to ppl and meet new ppl over my hobby
If I were you, I would lean heavily into the coding that you are already doing. Its a great skillset and will really help in the cyber field later on
because i've had a not exactly sheltered upbringing, i tend to be the kid in the back. i'm the quiet kid
Hey don't be knocking Tom Clancy!
i'm learning java & a lil python on the side
knowing web dev front and backend is extremely useful, and Python is always desired
plus, its way more fun than pentesting.
Not really reporting what you did to a manager, but generating a document that explains your process, the findings, and opens a conversation to find a collaboration that would prevent further intrusion. And technical writing is very different than any other format; reading academic papers, product manuals, and other scientific documentation is a good way to get introduced to that style.
ok
Learning both languages is great. If you care for my advice, focus on getting depth with one of them. Once you understand the memory and computation model underlying your code, learning other programming languages is not only very easy, but it gives you deeper insight into what the corners of that language environment are and how to work around them.
for the time being, i just want to do pentesting as like a hobby on the side
ya like jazz?
Re: learning languages, I'd personally recommend Java as a good one to start with (or possibly C#). It wont' allow you to develop some of the bad habits that interpreted languages such as python and javascript do, and it's not so painful or complex as c or c++. But other people here would likely tell you something totally different. But I do write software for a living, so that's just my $0.02.
i'm starting with java because that's what my parents made me do i'm getting ready for high school
I started writing code when I was younger than you. Getting started young is good π
i'm sorry for this
that's what she said
For the next couple of days, yeah
what is it? (srry if i offended you i have a limited knowledge of the world)
this channel is also the unofficial THM food channel
not true, there'd be more coffee if that was the case
sus
beef stew. Started with cubed flank steak, added potato, celery, carrots, and spices. Added 20g of corn starch to thicken
that (except for the corn starch) sounds like a whole and nutritious meal
the corn starch is just a thickening agent - it's not really adding anything except texture
bad plating bc hongry but tonight is turmeric cous-cous with roasted peppers, grilled asparagus, and Beyond sausage
Looks good! tumeric is so hard to cook with. How is the beyond sausage?
ty I like it a lot, I usually get it when its on sale since it's a little more expensive than real sausage but it definitely scratches that itch
Meatballs with bacon lardons, mash, broccoli and red wine gravy.
Cheers, also an example of why meal prep isn't a bad idea when you defrost and plate it lol:
When you have 30 minutes for lunch working from home it makes a big difference.
Yep, I'm a big fan of bulk cooking a beef stew etc and heating a portion each day
I fist bumped the air, beef stew if my go-to lol
My other staples are a shepherd's pie and a big batch of taco beef mixed with home made mac & cheese.
My beef stew recipe is actually out there on the internet π
Is that an OSINT challenge? π
Finally. Some good news.
That always did annoy me
Fml
I can one up that: I have a sort of espresso style machine, I overfilled the basket and ended up removing it while it was still under a bit of pressure.
Bomf, coffee grounds all over the counter and machine
Is it just not stopping?
I think I broke my toe
You cant stop a keurig once it starts. I forgot the cup
Did you kick a helmet?
My toe got caught between a pedal and a stone
Oh πππ
This is when we resort to the "yank the cord" technique.
and/or just put the whole thing in the sink
yeah I just let it go and then dumped the spill guard afterwards
I turned around to do something else and was like " huh the coffee machine sounds weird today"
This is why (when I do coffee in the mornings, which is rare now), I just do instant coffee. My brain isn't capable of operating something as complex as a coffee machine
Its one button lol which is why this was embarrassing
and the pod, and the cup. See, way too many steps for that much cognitive load that early in the morning. Clearly. π
that's why I drink a monster first thing in the morning -all the caffine accessible by a pull tab. no need for fancy machines
The cup-present validation rule was missing.
@tawdry dove Maybe you need an IoT coffee pot that throws a 418 error when it can't brew correctly
I need to get Decaf
3 cups of Coffee and 4 Coke Zeros is like 500mg of Caffeine
Coke Zeros are my drug
I hate the caffeine withdrawal headaches I get about 24-36hr after I stop drinking it. And I hate being dependent on a chemical. So I try to just not drink coffee, if I can. But there have been times when I literally needed it to survive, so π€·ββοΈ
my doctor had me lower my caffeine consumption, I have felt a whole ton better since
I like the taste of coffee to much to stop
If I tried I could definitely stop the coke zero
when I drank coffee it was for the caffeine not the taste
Caffeine or no caffeine I always go at the same pace
I should probably do a zero caffeine week again
Tonight's dinner pairing
I'm excited. I've always wanted this bourbon since before I could legally drink
That and an English Rum that I don't think you can get anymore
I have a new bottle of rye to open tomorrow; I'm anxious to see how the old fashioned comes out
It was what the Royal Navy gave its sailors and they were liquidating their stock a few years ago. I asked my parents to buy it an hold on to it for me until I could legally drink it and they said no lol

Uhh idk. This was probably 10 years ago now and the royal navy was getting rid of casks from like 1700s ish
It was something like $200 a bottle
This is apparently made to the same spec, according to the docs availalbe when the RN discontinued the daily rum allowance in 1970
I barely remember it and would be surprised if I found what it was
I think it might actually be Black Tot
That was the first result when I just googled
I bet if I go through my Google data back between 2012-2016 I could find it
This is weird, I've never had a salty bourbon before
It's got some bite but it's pretty good
Yeah, I don't think I could drink a salty bourbon. Just sounds like it's a bit too savory to me. Highland malts are about the limit of what bold flavors I like
We went to Valve's office to go hands-on with its new handheld gaming PC, the Steam Deck. IGN's own Bo Moore goes in-depth on how its controller feels, its desktop mode, its price and models, and a whole lot more.
The Steam Deck, is a handheld gaming PC with a form-factor similar to that of a Nintendo Switch. No hard release date has been given...
I so want one. Preorders open tomorrow.
suntory toki is my go-to, decent price and better than Jamesons for highballs imo
My Uni bar had a drink called "The Star Wars". I forget what was in it but it was goood
The first time I got it, the stars aligned, and all of the alcohol bottles were close to being finished so they just finished it off into my glass
Nothing beats a mojito in the summer
That looks rather decent
That pc looks awesome
u gonna eat pc for dinner? seems a nice idea
ugh almost beer 'o' clock
IPAs are great if your hobbies include sucking on old change
It does taste good. Or some of them, at least!
I enjoy the taste. I do not enjoy the after-taste.
Yeah i hate the hops
"sucking old change" is a great descriptor
Also, anyone else watch farming videos on YouTube?
There is a couple of homestead-like channels I follow, but usually they turn into a sales machine instead of 'here's how i do stuff' and i stop watching
Yeah that's always unfortunate
I think the last homestead channel I watched was the couple in Utah building a house. They had a 4Runner and a Truck, forgot the name of the channel though
Every youtube channel turns into a VPN sales pitch.
eventually
this discord is brought to you by RAID SHADOW LEGENDS
I love watching those dudes out in the jungle (Indonesia?) build those cool tree-houses and pools
I've been watching this swedish guy build a log cabin...no sponsors, no needless crap...just him building with sounds of the environment
you must have been looking for a vpn solution recently, I get coding and cybersec ads
I get ads in Spanish
nah, I just end up watching videos where a sponsored VPN sales pitch by the youtuber is a part of the video.
gotta protect yourself, hackers are on every open wifi if you see the ads
What was the one today π€ oh yeah I had a febreez and a Cascade Platinum ad today in Spanish
Nah its just me, your friendly neighborhood moose
well if you stop lurking in the shadows maybe arhu wont get so many vpn ads
Or maybe I just stop watching the videos where the author wants to get money by doing sales pitches π
that's like 90% of youtube though
youtubers all be "like, subscribe, buy my merch, and don't forget my 100 sponsors"
Personally, I don't mind the merch plugs as it's pretty much a direct injection to the creator and you get something back. The sponsors though can get annoying especially if they don't use the product themselves
Hye guys thanks for watching please be sure to like the video, comment the video, subscribe to my channel, check out our sponsor, back me on patreon, buy my merch, connect with me on linked in, and swipe right on my tinder
also dont forget to donate your first born male son

IPAs are amazing!
just gonna drop this out of nowhere
Alright, attempt 562 at cacio e pepe. Here we go
I think next week I'm going to try Italia Squisita's method for Cacio e pepe next week if this one doesn't pan out
cheese and pepper hmmm tasty
I really liked his white castle slider and chop cheese sandwich episodes
Well now im hungry, thanks everyone...
Thank you, I'm off to the freezer, mint choc chip with choc sauce I reckon
that's the way to do it π

If you're at the stage of being employed to legitimately perform spear phishing attacks, you would know the answer to that
i am not
Meaning you're not doing this legally, fair assumption?
my dude, i am just asking
Mhm, so am I
then no, veryyy wrong assumption
Okaaaaaay, so, what's the context?
in general, would someone need that or not?
I mean, aside from the fact you seem to be throwing out buzz words, the answer is: it depends.
Given I am 95% sure that this is illegal, you ain't getting any more than that

Do I need to port forward to access the data at rest on my RAM drive in order to conduct a war driving campaign?
This sounds like a 2014 exam question.
Haven't heard that term in years: war driving campaign.
yeah I guess wardriving is a bit of a dated concept
but it does have its uses, I just read an article recently about someone in texas wardriving electrical meters to determine who was still getting power and who was getting shut off during their last major blackout
Wouldnt surprise you to learn the answer to that question.
oh, the electrical meters outside your house might be part of a mesh network, surprise surprise.
ICS/SCADA pentesting is an interesting field (literally)
its way beyond my skillset, but it is fascinating. This guy set up a whole wiki dedicated towards it
The first challenge is already baselining the security of say 100,000+ endpoints. hahaha
I mean, wireless mesh networks just leeeaaaakkkk data as it is. Especially when they use unconventional means of communication. Its not like they are all neatly connected to a WAP
None of it is neatly in plaintext, but its out there in the open to sniff
The question is though what is the associated risk. Starting from that, it becomes more clear how important discovery of plaintext data is in the context of risk. π
If you can read how many cubic gas I use in a month, that's not really actionable data in the context of an adversary.
Not actionable to you, and its unlikely someone would be targeting you for your gas usage, but it does paint a picture of how a utility is rationing out a resource, which would be of interest to the public. In the case of Texas, power is privatized, so it could be adversarial to the power company and used against them. If it were to come out that they were giving primarily minority neighborhoods rolling blackouts while the "whiter" sections of the population had uninterrupted access to the utility.
Which is more or less what was going on.
That steers into the political spectrum, which we try to avoid here. π My interest is more in the defensive/offensive modeling of techniques and counter measures (offensive countermeasures) π
Fair enough. The defense is that you don't create a network out of devices that didn't really need that capability to begin with. Its like when people install smart thermostats in their home. The benefit of being able to set your temp with a smart phone doesnt really outweigh the risk of hooking it up to the internet.
The safest is to not be on the internet. π
mesh networks aren't the internet, mind you.
When you are on the internet you can adopt the Assumed Compromise model. π
I can think of many worse things that should not be connected to the internet. Aside from wasting energy, creating uncomfortable (dangerous?) temperatures, and being a risk of information disclosure, thermostats are pretty tame
Well, and I suppose being an initial foothold into your internal network
There are many examples where such devices created backdoors into your private network becaue they actively connect to honeywell's website. You can create googledorks to look for these things. Its not benign.
Honeywell being a common example.
IoT is not a tame risk.
You don't voluntarily backdoor your private networks?
/s
I concede
Joking aside, in terms of your electical meter being tied into a mesh network of other meters, its a relatively new thing, and deserves a certain level of caution, especially since there are people cracking these things.
Imagine if someone ran your meter up simply because they knew how to interface with these devices
IoT is a standards mess, and a security mess, so the foundation of it is a lost cause. Enterprise IoT is a different beast altogether.
still a security mess
From an enduser standpoint, IoT is any home's largest security risk. No one wastes a 0day on granny down the street, but IoT vulnerabilities are usually baked in by the OEM, creating a much larger pool of targets
wifi-enabled LED light bulbs, why? etc etc.
Umm, this brings up a question on a similar. Idk, this might be a stupid one (like most things I say) but when we talk about OT security, I've mostly heard people talking about securing SCADA servers and subsystems but nothing really on a network or device level. I was wondering why not introduce something of an encryption or some Network based security? I've asked this before and the most common answer I've got is that OT communication is mostly via wired channels hence they try to prioritise the Physical security in such cases but haven't heard much from a network based perspective.
This is a huge topic, and really difficult to answer succinctly. I deal with a few OT scenarios at work, so I'll do my best to cover what I do know. First, OT devices as you mentioned, typically are on wired channels. Additionally, those channels tend to be airgapped, they interface directly with their controller and thats usually the end of the story. What they do, they need to do really, really well, and any extra overhead is often seen as over-engineering. Physical security is a big part of it, too. It is what would be called a "compensating control", or an "inherited control", meaning we can ignore some typical baseline controls in favor of a control that solves a risk adjacently. An example of this would be a PLC device, which handles say, an industrial power device or an industrial A/C unit. The PLC is physically attached to the industrial unit and is only connected to its monitoring system or remote controller, which is typically hardwired to the control system. In order to compromise it, you must compromise the larger control system or have direct access to the PLC. A last consideration, is how highly engineered these devices are. Typically, they run on specialied RTOS embedded kernels, meaning they are outputting data in real-time, which encryption schemes or network based security would simply break because they cannot react and monitor in enough time to ensure any meaningful type of security.
At the end of the day, you are looking at a massive supply chain attack, or an insider threat that would really stand a chance at compromising these devices.
Okay. I did my best on that one. If anyone has more information to add or correct me where I'm wrong please do so, its a really tough topic and depends largely on the specific system your dealing with.
I completely agree with these but it's kinda worrisome that for the security such a crucial component is mostly confided to the physical means and not in the inherent design itself. This can lead to huge impacts in an industrial scenario if a threat actor is somehow able to compromise or intercept the line.
Can we have some sort of a scrambler which randomises the signals in a manner that only the server and the end device can understand? IIRC this lack of credentials is what lead to the Traffic Light hijack in California in 2016. So maybe we can up with a system to secure these channels?
And thanks for the insight. It really really puts things into perspective
More and more IOT/SCADA systems are being connected to the internet, though, for remote monitoring and control, and that's a huge problem, IMO. Because most of them probably have horrible security flaws.
IIRC most SCADA servers run windows. So there's that.

Heyo, i managed to get 50% through the beginner path but hit a bit of a roadblock and stopped. I think it's pretty fun and am really liking everything, but I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions to make someone more invested in the site
I was using a remote ubuntu box for a bit and it worked for a while until it got to stuff like burp and wireshark with the GUIs, and right now i have a kali subsystem installed on windows 10 (and am using the windows versions of most of the GUI based programs) but it still kinda feels a bit janky sometimes. I don't know if i wanna go through the effort of setting up (and possibly screwing up) dual booting, and I feel like there's another solution that'd make it more fluid
Use a Kali VM
oh wait, like virtualbox?
yeah or VMware
Can you give it most of the power from the original system? I haven't used one before but wow I did not think of that lol, that seems like it'd be perfect
It doesn't need much tbh, I've ran like 4 VMs at once with 16 GB of RAM
Oh awesome! I think the biggest issue i noticed when doing stuff with the cheap ubuntu box/tryhackme's stuff was things like johntheripper took forever so I do like using my hardware if possible haha
thank you!
Ideally you crack hashes with hashcat or john on your main pc so you can use your GPU, also you can potentially save some time/resources with crackstation
Use VMWare Workstation Player if you can, it's good. Then get the Kali ISO from their website, they have a preinstalled VM one which saves headache
Awesome, yeah I'm downloading it right now!
It works wonderfully, thanks so much for your help! I resubbsed and am going to get a second monitor at some point cause this is awesome :D
You are welcome. Enjoy. Be sure to get your openvpn config file for your kali box. Now, you have a persistent environment so when you collect tools, notes and command history across rooms you will keep it. π
Hey, I was just reading about the pegasus spyware, and I was just wondering if it's possible to root an android without physical access, like having a meterpreter session or a shell? Even if it's possible to download an app on the target, how would u root it? Is it even possible? I don't actually think so. Can someone clarfy this?
You may not even need to root it to get something like Pegasus working? I've no idea myself, I haven't gone further than flashing custom roms on my phones. Would be good to hear from someone with some expertise in Android.
It's malware, it works the same as many others.
It's exploiting vulnerabilities to gain access.
Yes, and it targets devices till android 4.2 and that's y I am wondering how all those powerful people got spyware, I mean they should have very latest device right?
these are not always the most tech-savvy people

Like that movie with Pine and Affleck called "The Finest Hour"
Pretty decent film
There's actually a coast guard show on YouTube that's pretty interesting. Also there is a Rescue Swimmer course video as well

Not to say that CG doesn't have its share of hardcore folks, but Navy SAR is a different breed

one of my buddies growing up became a navy diver, he has literally been training nearly every day of his life since he was 16. one sitting, you must be hungry
Lol
Parents are coming over so I figured I should cook to show I'm not completely incompetent and semi successful
So we're having Steak, Potatoes, and Highballs
Need to learn how to make a potato though
I have a big chunk of rib primal in my fridge - 2 more weeks on the dry aging
I did and got conflicting results
Gonna go with the oil, salt, and pin prick method
Honestly if you're making potatoes, I like Twice Baked
usually I use a fork or pairing knife for poking, the oil and salt help with pulling out the moisture
That sounds like something I can mess up James lol
Honestly super easy, and tasty AF. Maybe not so good if you're watching your fat intake but dietary fat isn't the evil it was sold as.
Jacket potatos are even easier. Because it's impossible to make them explode
wanna bet
Today I made Curry-wurst, reminded me of growing up in Germany, nothing like a Giros Pitta though but still nice. Can highly recommend to anyone, Curry-wurst rocks! Would show pics but tbh it didn't plate up all that well.
Never heard of DΓΆner box, I'll google it. It was nice, just followed a traditional recipe, would like to see a fine dining approach to it.

Old but gold, from my blog but wanted to share :). This was one of the last dished I came up with before leaving catering, this is Pressed Confit Chicken Leg, Citrus Salad and Black Sambuca Fluid Gel. The food critique who ate this said they loved it, we were always chasing rosettes in the kitchen but never exceeded 2 rosettes (3 is on par with 1 Michelin star).

So my parents bought me a plant as a housewarming gift and it's very nice. The nursery we purchased it from said it was fully mature.... I checked the seed code on the botanists website and it's still a baby

u don't put pesto on pizza men.
oregano doesen't go on pizza

I worked in a Restaurant where we served pizza, we had a stone oven for it also. But that was when I was a teenager(18).
was it with gas or with wood?
wood
great
It was ok but if you caught your arm on it, it hurt lol
it was small i guess
it had 3 layers to it, but yeah kinda. I have since purged my mind of the food taught there. French is best
any ways back to hacking, peace out π
let's just say i don't agree on that, not because italian is the best cuisine but just french a bit eh
It's what the foundation of all good cooking build upon. It's the staple for young chefs learning here in the UK, but you are entitled to your opinion. But in the fine dinning world French cooking is supreme, Marco, Gordan ect all gained Michelin star accolades with French cooking. I haven't eaten enough Italian to have a solid opinion. Would have loved to eat at el Bulli in Spain but sadly it's now closed, Noma is their replacement I believe. 10/10 would eat Michelin Italian food though. any ways I really need to crack on, have a nice evening π
Neapolitan pizza, roman pizza and so on ok... but pizza has evolved since the year 0. the way the dough is fermented, the cheeses that are used and the the total hydration of the dough is a constant search.
tomato did not go on pizza until the spanish took it to italy from southamerica. pizza was olive oil, and anchovies back then
tony wrote the pizza bible. pretty good book to learn
Hey MΓΈrpheus @pale lichen :)
To be fair, Michelin inspectors are biased towards French cuisine as well
Potentially, but they are very fair, there is an air of pompery with Michelin for sure, but that's how they made their brand so highly sought after. There are lots of different styles of food that achieved a star, for example there was a tinny little dim sum restaurant that gained a star purely due to just how good it was. El Bulli was spanish and had 3 stars as was regarded as the best restaurant in the world.
Fun fact: Michelin started giving stars out to give car owners a reason to drive around and visit places, thus selling more Michelin tires.
that is correct
Egon Ronne was the real OG, any ways enough about food for today π
Same deal with their maps, and the green guides
They also invested a lot in road signage in the early days
Heh I go out of my way for a 1 star restaurant :)
Bib gourmand rated places are consistently good as well at a reasonable price
This place https://guide.michelin.com/sg/en/singapore-region/singapore/restaurant/liao-fan-hong-kong-soya-sauce-chicken-rice-noodle has probably the best stars/price ratio π
screw the michelin guide, they need to stick to tires - also the culture it creates to attain and/or sustain stars in some chefs/restaurants is very unhealthy
those singaporean stalls I thought was a cool addition, i've seen some op-eds comparing that to food gentrification which I can kinda agree with - no one wants to spend 4x at their local mom-n-pop because some snooty guide said they're valid now
local food joint FTW LES GOOOOOOO
oh yeah working with some chefs was very toxic, elitist mentality for sure. It's considered as expensive due to it basically being one chef per dish cooking ratio and the cost of good ingredients ect, so the staffing over heads are over the roof. Local food joints are under rated for sure, but to say screw it is a bit ignorant imo. But i'm just a nobody what do I know π. Any way's i'm dipping out of this conversation.
Michelin's history has always been mobility. Tires play a big part for sure but it's not their entire business, in a way this is a good thing for them. They built a solid reputation over the past 100 years for the quality of their guides. I agree that some chefs put a star over everything which can lead to a toxic environment, but they're still in the minority.
Todayβs project
The wiring is pretty messy but Iβm going to buy some clamps to deal with it
the audiophile in me says the record player element might not like being in front of the speakers :p
It look super sharp, the lighting is v nice.
Ur making me want to crack out my player
my player hasnt been used in quite a while.. spotify is just too easy
Something nice about sticking on a really old blues or jazz record.
The crackle and scuffs and noises, makes it feel so real
I love it
I could make it really hurt and use the Bluetooth capability and move the speakers lol. That just doesnβt feel right to have something so analog then just use Bluetooth. That being said using Sonos with a player is pretty cool
as long as the record player is spinning nobody will know the difference but you π
Well ofc they get michelin stars with french cooking, michelin stars are french xd
first pizza ( margherita ) was named like that as it was made for queen margherita di savoia, and the 3 ingredients were mozzarella tomato and basil, and here we only use yeast to make it grow, takes 24 to 48 hrs.
If it's ok , I would like to stop this conversation π
ok xd
I do 3 days cold fermentation with biga or poolish for better taste.
never heard of biga before
yea we only use brewer's yeast
that's pretty much what u put in pizza dough
yes biga is to start the fermentation early for better flavor
is brewer's yeast a thing outside italy?
i know some people in italy do it at home
yeah I have a sourdough that I keep alive, its about 1 year old right now
like home made yeast and they re grow it etc weird stuff but we usually buy this at supermarket
looks like this inside
I do it, it gives a very good flavor to the dough. it need to be fed every 12 hours or it will die lol
Dafuq
i have couple pizzerias in my family, and like from what i know they use special flours n shit, AKA why u can't make the pizzeria pizza at home
shouldn't have been hiding that moose
This is serious though
I don't own a pet and they can't provide me with photo evidence
shcam
yeah caputo 00 is the flour. I have to get it at a restaurant
depot here
did you go to the front office and request more information
awesome
caputo is like a branding or is it a type
the 00 is the grind. caputo is the brand we can get from italy here
Yep
Still nothing
strange
yea i know 00 is the grind xd, yea we don't have such brand here, we just have local unbranded type thing that just sells to local pizzerias and that's it
My response
hell yeah
bruh why do u even have to pay if u have a pet, that's just a scam lol
hopefully they give a valid response instead of "we got nothin' to truely prove this"
Uh oh
Not something to joke about my dude

not in usa
-mute @radiant jacinth That's not appropriate in the slightest. Definitely not something that it's OK to joke about anywhere. Especially not here. Go cool off.
π Muted scar#6666 for 1 day
Tipo 00 is to do with the protein content as well. Needs ro be able to stretch without breaking
00 is the grade really
I've only hear the numbers on reference to how a flour is graded
But I'm off to the gym now. This idiocy is finally making me go back to blow some steam
yes its a finer grind. and yes the gluten structure is better with a higher protein content
it's measured differently here, but in France 00 is equivalent to T45
is that what u guys use for bread?
depends on the bread
Baguette needs to be very stretchy, so usually a fine flour like T55 is used. A country-style ball (pain de campagne) will use coarser flour, like T80 or T120
T150 is basically whole grain flour
what do you use for pizza hydra
T45 or T55 if I can find it
it really needs the gluten
but I've made pizza work with coarser flour, just need to let it sit for longer usually
let the little yeasties work their magic
Also 00 flour is for high temp ovens like firewood. For home ovens 00 it does not get a nice color unless you add sugar or malt to the mix
I don't make pizza dough so no blasphemy from me, I just make banana bread
I mean in France adding sugar to bread is also blasphemy...
brioche is arguably not bread...
banana bread is classified as a cake here
despite the name π
Its just to feed the yeast, is like a teaspoon lol. Ny style pizza has sugar and oil
bread names can be confusing around the world :p
yeah I add a bit of olive oil
breads are usually yeasted in most countries, cakes are not
I make a sourdough banana bread, no baking powder but yes lots of sugar xD
my favourite bread is meatloaf π₯΄
Malt in bread sounds interesting
should be good tbh
I've had malted breads before, adds a bit of sweetness that's not as strong as pure sugar

cmn, do you eat wagonwheels? So far I have heard they are amazing
I havenβt had one in ages β but theyβre good yes!
And that one is so good (when properly made)
It truly is. Adding edible tar gives it a nice twist also
Molasses?
it is a dark syrup from sugar cane
yes I know what molasses are, I was wondering if that was what they were referring to
Why havenβt I seen cyber security/hacking standup yet
I want some thematic comedy at cons
we were waiting for you to go first
"So what's the deal with airline touchscreen operating systems? They barely operate and you barely touch 'em".
Are you Seinfeld?
I hope not.

yup
which only works from 1-10, but after 100 it breaks
I tried using seq -w to force a width
but again same problem, it wont work on 2 digits but will work on higher numbers
is there a similar utility to seq that can actually set the width to a certain lenght ?
seq -f "%03g" 0 1000```
maybe that might work? I believe seq can do it
I think what you're asking is about the format of the integer, so it matches what the files are stored as?
yes exactly
also man pages have nothing about this
Gave +1 Rep to @hot verge
also, in bash you can denote how many noughts you want before the integer in a basic loop with:
for i in {000..999}; do
echo $i;
done```
something like that, as opposed to {0..999}, which wouldn't match the filename
I know about this , I just didnt want to make the anime girl look to the side
lol
and it still breaks on the 100
guess I should do if or just a while loop

@burnt night
Yea sorry for that, I dont even watch anime and my intention was educational
I'll just leave this here: source ~/.bash_history (Don't run this without understanding what it does, it could have unwanted side effects!)
Why?
Honestly seems somewhat malicious to post that...
We don't like "somewhat malicious".
I would hope people don't just run anything that's posted somewhere, I thought it was a funny command, saw it passing by on twitter.
pretty much anything could be malicious, especially in infosec
I mean at some point there is a level of personal responsibility...
Yeah, I'm gonna remind you of rule 17 which covers this
Don't post malicious commands
Well sorry for trying to break the silence with something interesting/funny
I'll try to add some warning messages to any future commands that could potentially be damaging something.
Or, preferably, just don't post them?
This community has people at all levels of experience
These kind of commands are all over the internet, as I said I just found this one in Twitter. I think it would be much more productive if we make people aware of not running anything they find on their own personal systems, instead of a vague rule that has a lot of interpretations possible.
Of course I don't post it to deliberately be causing damage to people's systems.
-mute @night shale 20m Please don't argue over the rules, it's clear where the line is drawn.
π Muted Sling#5472 for 20 minutes
Hey!
You shouldn't have posted the command at all in this community :)
I would suggest that you read the #rules before proceeding to be a member of the community.
Please avoid arguing with staff members, especially when you are very much in the wrong. If you want to argue, you can take it up with the Lead Moderator (Muiri).
Posting a command, just like you did, is foolish and you should understand that the only responsibility that anyone should have is you. @night shale
