There's a Spanish dish quite similar to that, we call it 'Russian salad', which doesn't make much sense tbh πŸ˜‚

I think a lot of European countries have russian salad, I've had a lot of it on my trips to the Netherlands

Didn't know that. Never seen it outside of Spain. But then maybe the name makes some sense

In northern Italy/SouthEastern France they call it a "Piedmontaise"

The only one I've heard of "Franzosiche" salad in Hungary which I'm assuming is French salad?!

I don't think the CVT is as bad as everyone claims. The OG ones were absolutely garbage but the ones they use now are fairly solid it seems. Personally, I think the subaru purists are just really salty about not having a 5MT anymore

UK People, appreciate if you could retweet this. Not for my ego but because more people in the UK need to understand how technology works and more about marginalised groups kekw https://twitter.com/bee_sec_san/status/1415050903808135171

In the UK, over 600k people have signed a petition to make it a requirement to provide identification when signing up to social media.

Let me tell you why this hurts marginalised people and is a very bad idea.

#trackatroll

rapid summit
#

Having an id requirement a common argument that people make and claim that would make discussions more civil. As if. You know what people say with their own name and face.

burnt night

Requiring it in the UK just means people will VPN outside the UK.

rapid summit
#

cue a requirement for banning VPNs

steel plover
#

simple solution, don't use social media

vivid mesa
tacit yew
#

ID checks would be a barrier to service, which I doubt most social media platforms would want to make mandatory for everyone. It hurts people and the platform, and I doubt it would have much affect on discourse. If you choose to use social media, you open yourself up to speech you may not like or agree with; an ID requirement isn't going to change that.

burnt night
#

which I doubt most social media platforms would want to make mandatory for everyone The petition is a call to government action

#

So it'd be mandated. The platform would either comply, or stop serving the UK.

tacit yew
#

That is really unfortunate. I don't know much about how Govt operates in the UK. Do petitions like this actually make headway there?

burnt night
#

A lot of organizations have roles that aren't explicitly called 'intelligence analyst' but lump those tasks in with the SOC analyst role. indigo garnet

rapid summit

#

That sounds rough, have you thought about talking to someone you trust about it? It must be a lot of pressure on you.

dusty sleet
#

if u can be productive while also being noisy be it

indigo garnet
#

the main reason i'm using thm is because

well no good reason

i need a hobby man

tacit yew
#

As someone who also grew up with overbearing parents, I can say they likely mean well, even if they don't always go about it in the right ways. They are just people too, and people make mistakes. Its important to talk to people about it, if only to keep yourself from imploding. Your in a really tough age, because you want to set boundaries with your parents, but you aren't really allowed to because they don't see you as "grown up" enough.

indigo garnet
rapid summit
#

What you see as irrational mood swings might indicate stress on their part. Whatever the reason - but as @tacit yew said, they're also people. They have their limits.

dusty sleet
#

parenting is hard

rapid summit
#

And to handle other responsibilities on top of that, it can be hard to handle.

dusty sleet
#

whatever you do will backfire

tacit yew
#

Hence the boundaries. You may be discinclined to, but I went to a school counselor for a similar situation and it was really helpful to have a 3rd party involved to sort of mediate both sides. You get the oppurtunity to be heard, and your parents get the insight of another adult that doesn't have such a strong emotional interest

indigo garnet
#

my main grudge towards my parents is not teaching me how to behave as a child, rather just slapping me until i cried. i didn't know that what i was doing was bad, and now i don't see them as respectable role models. the truth is, they can't agree with each other. they are physically incapable of it. any time they do, they're just cracking down on me and my brother.

tacit yew
#

Nothing is solved over night, sumemr is almost over and a whole new chapter in your life will start when high school begins. Just hang in there, talk to your close friends about your situation, and try to remember that your parents only want the best for you. No 8th grader should have to be the adult in the family, but when you have highstrung parents with impossible expectations, you kind of have to be. It does get easier, just hang in there.

indigo garnet
#

the main reason i'm even on THM is so i know that i'm doing something on my own, i have a hobby where i can work with a wholesome community to sharpen my skills with, something to distract me from my life

#

my life consists of math, coding, physics, speech & debate, and whatever my parents decide for me (plus some minor weightlifting in my spare time) according to my friends,
i
have
no
Life

which is why i got interested in pentesting. it just seems like it would be fun for me

#

and i'd hate it if even that was restricted

spark sun
#

Pentesting is a lot less fun than you are expecting. Because you will be expected to produce a report that has meaningful value. The activity itself is a lot of fun, but then the report writing has to be done. It is, without a doubt, the most critical part of the entire activity and often the part that is implemented the worst. If you want to be a pentester, awesome, but realize rhetoric&writing is at least as important as technical depth.

indigo garnet
#

or am i totally misunderstanding here?

tacit yew
#

technical writing is a different skillset than creative writing

#

But being good at the latter does lend well to the former.

indigo garnet
#

as of right now, i just want to talk to ppl and meet new ppl over my hobby

tacit yew
#

If I were you, I would lean heavily into the coding that you are already doing. Its a great skillset and will really help in the cyber field later on

indigo garnet
#

because i've had a not exactly sheltered upbringing, i tend to be the kid in the back. i'm the quiet kid

remote sail
indigo garnet
tacit yew
#

knowing web dev front and backend is extremely useful, and Python is always desired

#

plus, its way more fun than pentesting.

spark sun
#

Not really reporting what you did to a manager, but generating a document that explains your process, the findings, and opens a conversation to find a collaboration that would prevent further intrusion. And technical writing is very different than any other format; reading academic papers, product manuals, and other scientific documentation is a good way to get introduced to that style.

Learning both languages is great. If you care for my advice, focus on getting depth with one of them. Once you understand the memory and computation model underlying your code, learning other programming languages is not only very easy, but it gives you deeper insight into what the corners of that language environment are and how to work around them.

Re: learning languages, I'd personally recommend Java as a good one to start with (or possibly C#). tacit yew
#

I mean, wireless mesh networks just leeeaaaakkkk data as it is. Especially when they use unconventional means of communication. Its not like they are all neatly connected to a WAP

#

None of it is neatly in plaintext, but its out there in the open to sniff

smoky mortar
#

The question is though what is the associated risk. Starting from that, it becomes more clear how important discovery of plaintext data is in the context of risk. πŸ™‚

#

If you can read how many cubic gas I use in a month, that's not really actionable data in the context of an adversary.

tacit yew
#

Not actionable to you, and its unlikely someone would be targeting you for your gas usage, but it does paint a picture of how a utility is rationing out a resource, which would be of interest to the public. In the case of Texas, power is privatized, so it could be adversarial to the power company and used against them. If it were to come out that they were giving primarily minority neighborhoods rolling blackouts while the "whiter" sections of the population had uninterrupted access to the utility.

#

Which is more or less what was going on.

smoky mortar
#

That steers into the political spectrum, which we try to avoid here. πŸ™‚ My interest is more in the defensive/offensive modeling of techniques and counter measures (offensive countermeasures) πŸ˜„

tacit yew
#

Fair enough. The defense is that you don't create a network out of devices that didn't really need that capability to begin with. Its like when people install smart thermostats in their home. The benefit of being able to set your temp with a smart phone doesnt really outweigh the risk of hooking it up to the internet.

smoky mortar
#

The safest is to not be on the internet. πŸ˜„

tacit yew

mesh networks aren't the internet, mind you.

Umm, this brings up a question on a similar. Idk, this might be a stupid one (like most things I say) but when we talk about OT security, I've mostly heard people talking about securing SCADA servers and subsystems but nothing really on a network or device level. I was wondering why not introduce something of an encryption or some Network based security? I've asked this before and the most common answer I've got is that OT communication is mostly via wired channels hence they try to prioritise the Physical security in such cases but haven't heard much from a network based perspective.

tacit yew
# plucky raft Umm, this brings up a question on a similar. Idk, this might be a stupid one (li...

This is a huge topic, and really difficult to answer succinctly. I deal with a few OT scenarios at work, so I'll do my best to cover what I do know. First, OT devices as you mentioned, typically are on wired channels. Additionally, those channels tend to be airgapped, they interface directly with their controller and thats usually the end of the story. What they do, they need to do really, really well, and any extra overhead is often seen as over-engineering. Physical security is a big part of it, too. It is what would be called a "compensating control", or an "inherited control", meaning we can ignore some typical baseline controls in favor of a control that solves a risk adjacently. An example of this would be a PLC device, which handles say, an industrial power device or an industrial A/C unit. The PLC is physically attached to the industrial unit and is only connected to its monitoring system or remote controller, which is typically hardwired to the control system. In order to compromise it, you must compromise the larger control system or have direct access to the PLC. A last consideration, is how highly engineered these devices are. Typically, they run on specialied RTOS embedded kernels, meaning they are outputting data in real-time, which encryption schemes or network based security would simply break because they cannot react and monitor in enough time to ensure any meaningful type of security.

#

At the end of the day, you are looking at a massive supply chain attack, or an insider threat that would really stand a chance at compromising these devices.

#

Okay. I did my best on that one. If anyone has more information to add or correct me where I'm wrong please do so, its a really tough topic and depends largely on the specific system your dealing with.

tacit yew
plucky raft
# tacit yew This is a huge topic, and really difficult to answer succinctly. I deal with a f...

I completely agree with these but it's kinda worrisome that for the security such a crucial component is mostly confided to the physical means and not in the inherent design itself. This can lead to huge impacts in an industrial scenario if a threat actor is somehow able to compromise or intercept the line.

Can we have some sort of a scrambler which randomises the signals in a manner that only the server and the end device can understand? IIRC this lack of credentials is what lead to the Traffic Light hijack in California in 2016. So maybe we can up with a system to secure these channels?

#

And thanks for the insight. It really really puts things into perspective blobheart

remote sail
#

More and more IOT/SCADA systems are being connected to the internet, though, for remote monitoring and control, and that's a huge problem, IMO. Because most of them probably have horrible security flaws.

It's what the foundation of all good cooking build upon. It's the staple for young chefs learning here in the UK, but you are entitled to your opinion. But in the fine dinning world French cooking is supreme, Marco, Gordan ect all gained Michelin star accolades with French cooking. I haven't eaten enough Italian to have a solid opinion. Would have loved to eat at el Bulli in Spain but sadly it's now closed, Noma is their replacement I believe. 10/10 would eat Michelin Italian food though. any ways I really need to crack on, have a nice evening πŸ™‚

# twin ridge To be fair, Michelin inspectors are biased towards French cuisine as well

Potentially, but they are very fair, there is an air of pompery with Michelin for sure, but that's how they made their brand so highly sought after. There are lots of different styles of food that achieved a star, for example there was a tinny little dim sum restaurant that gained a star purely due to just how good it was. El Bulli was spanish and had 3 stars as was regarded as the best restaurant in the world.

spark sun
#

Fun fact: Michelin started giving stars out to give car owners a reason to drive around and visit places, thus selling more Michelin tires.

radiant jacinth

that is correct

Egon Ronne was the real OG, any ways enough about food for today πŸ™‚

They also invested a lot in road signage in the early days

screw the michelin guide, they need to stick to tires - also the culture it creates to attain and/or sustain stars in some chefs/restaurants is very unhealthy

#

those singaporean stalls I thought was a cool addition, i've seen some op-eds comparing that to food gentrification which I can kinda agree with - no one wants to spend 4x at their local mom-n-pop because some snooty guide said they're valid now

oh yeah working with some chefs was very toxic, elitist mentality for sure. It's considered as expensive due to it basically being one chef per dish cooking ratio and the cost of good ingredients ect, so the staffing over heads are over the roof. Local food joints are under rated for sure, but to say screw it is a bit ignorant imo. But i'm just a nobody what do I know πŸ™‚. Any way's i'm dipping out of this conversation.

I've only hear the numbers on reference to how a flour is graded

#

But I'm off to the gym now. This idiocy is finally making me go back to blow some steam

sacred sandal
twin ridge
#

it's measured differently here, but in France 00 is equivalent to T45

sacred sandal
#

is that what u guys use for bread?

twin ridge
#

depends on the bread

#

Baguette needs to be very stretchy, so usually a fine flour like T55 is used. A country-style ball (pain de campagne) will use coarser flour, like T80 or T120

#

T150 is basically whole grain flour

steel plover
#

what do you use for pizza hydra

twin ridge
#

T45 or T55 if I can find it

#

it really needs the gluten

#

but I've made pizza work with coarser flour, just need to let it sit for longer usually

#

let the little yeasties work their magic

sacred sandal
#

Also 00 flour is for high temp ovens like firewood. For home ovens 00 it does not get a nice color unless you add sugar or malt to the mix

twin ridge
#

it works well enough

#

putting sugar in pizza dough is blasphemy though

steel plover
#

I don't make pizza dough so no blasphemy from me, I just make banana bread

twin ridge
#

I mean in France adding sugar to bread is also blasphemy...

#

brioche is arguably not bread...

banana bread is classified as a cake here

something like that, as opposed to {0..999}, which wouldn't match the filename

Of course I don't post it to deliberately be causing damage to people's systems.

You shouldn't have posted the command at all in this community :)
I would suggest that you read the #rules before proceeding to be a member of the community.

Please avoid arguing with staff members, especially when you are very much in the wrong. If you want to argue, you can take it up with the Lead Moderator (Muiri).

Posting a command, just like you did, is foolish and you should understand that the only responsibility that anyone should have is you. @night shale
