....all of them.... ?

tawdry dove
#

I mean generally DOT will inspect a bridge every two years or so

#

I would assume every time it gets hit, it has to go through an inspection

remote sail
#

that big orange beam in front isn't attached to the bridge, it's just there as a sacrificial thing

tawdry dove
#

Oh we might be thinking of two different bridges then

remote sail
#

I've seen a few different websites devoted to these low bridges, so possibly

tawdry dove
#

There's another similar height bridge that is made of steel

#

And it just has the flashers and the chains

#

Oh wow the 11'8 bridge is no longer 11'8"

#

They raised it to 12'4"

remote sail
#

slightly taller. Still making stupidity painful (but amusing for the rest of us)

azure trench
#

I have a playlist of hacking music, which is a mix of anti-authority songs, dad metal, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. I listen to a lot of different stuff though

tawdry dove
#

Railroad didn't raise it so people would stop hitting it.... They raised it to make it level with another crossing so the trains did not have to slow down kekw

remote sail
#

lol. Well the bridge itself is fine, they have the can opener part ahead of the bridge

#

so what do they care if people keep hitting that

#

wouldn't surprise me if they have some kind of pool going for how many hits per week/month or something

tawdry dove
#

I think the average is 1 a month

remote sail
#

they should rename it to The Barber. Now it just takes a little off the top. It used to actually rip trucks apart

tawdry dove
#

It should turn to a red light if the truck is too tall

remote sail
#

I think they have flashing lights and alarms and stuff, but people I guess don't see it

tawdry dove
#

I was going to suggest alarms too as I didn't hear anything

remote sail
#

I don't remember, I think the site has more details. I haven't rread it in forever

#

or maybe I'm mixing it up with another bridge. There are a few I've seen

tawdry dove

Yeah there's one near me that you can barely fit an F250 super duty through

tawdry dove

We were supposed to get a parking garage at uni but then the administration decided to build another civvy dorm and not make more parking

remote sail
#

smart

#

then they can double the rate for parking passes

tawdry dove
#

Yeah it's an absolute cluster to park in the winter

remote sail
#

yeah, my uni did that way back when. Parking permits were like $250 for a "can park anywhere" one year, and then like 2 years later it was like $350 PER LOT.

tawdry dove
#

But the nice thing is that everyone helps each other and everyone has a shovel

remote sail
#

shovel? Hell I got 4wd and a winch

tawdry dove

Yeah we were $350 a year

#

No preference in parking though. Free for all

Yeah, That could lead to identity fraud, although OSINT could probably find those things about most people via searching LinkedIn and other socials. I wouldn't worry too much, but keep your eyes peeled for future scams

tawdry dove

Honestly it depends. I doubt the people that connected to the scam are Nation State actors so they likely have limited budget and less advanced tools

Id just be careful from this point forward and not give out any info in the future

We've had lots of "Windows support" scams lately. This week apparently my Windows computer had been sending bad data somewhere. For some reason they weren't able to name a single origin address. I was expecting them to say 127.0.0.1 or something else.

#

I don't know how counties work haha

remote sail

in the USA, counties are smaller than states- say an hour drive away, or less

lilac gust
#

I guess we have similar things but they don't have their own taxes or anything thankfully, Australa just has one tax system for goods and services at a flat 10% rate and you won't have to pay that again after purchase initially lol

remote sail
#

yeah, it's rare in the US for different counties to have drastically different tax structures- generally those fall under state taxes (with some exceptions).

scarlet moth
#

its probably because laws changed, probably due to amazon.... remember when amazon was tax free? and states were like 'nah I don't think so'

remote sail

Might be a DC thing as well. They're special.

azure trench

Oh DC, what a place

tawdry dove
#

Not DC but I went to Dunkies this morning and actually got a receipt this morning. There was a $0.30 tax on top of the state tax from the county I live in, not the county I purchased the beverage in

Which doesn't make sense to me because I didn't make the purchase in the county I live in

quaint vortex
# tawdry dove Which doesn't make sense to me because I didn't make the purchase in the county ...

That’s odd. We’ll go to Portland to make big purchases since they don’t have sales tax like our county does. Think card companies are starting to use the zip code of your cards on file to properly use taxes? Seems like that wouldn’t/couldn’t work though. Especially if they never went out notifications or anything. Not to mention, how would that be feasible with so many Canadians coming down for purchases as well?

Question to the group. What tools to use when investigating if a company had a data breach? I know how to investigate the emails. But is there a site that may give info about the company breach period? Taking all these classes. When company A is looking to purchase a coompany B (acquistion) they would Recon the external edge (perimeter) before connecting. Yes, I understand the internal investigation. I was just wondering is there some bread crumbs (external sites) that may inform you the company been breached before or they have been breached and don't know it.

quaint basin

We do have a growing number of apprenticeship programmes, but uni is still seen as the way to go, generally speaking 🤷‍♂️

#

Most people still go if they are academically inclined

quaint vortex
#

so it's kind of natural to go to uni right after high school? most people done with uni and school in their early 20's? id assume if it's free you might have a higher drop out rate before graduation, no?

quaint basin
#

Many people either take a gap year or go straight after school, yeah.
Not sure about the dropout rate, but I would wager it's not that high for most courses. We essentially get the courses paid for by SAAS (Student awards agency), so if you drop out before the end of the year then you often need to pay back that year's tuition.

#

That's kind of an incentive not to 😆

quaint vortex
#

That's actually really cool! Thanks for the input, Muiri!

lilac gust

Australia has a government system that pays for uni and you pay it back when you are employed and earning over a certain threshold. I'm not actually sure what percentage of people finishing high-school go into univerisity however I think it's around 50%. There are scholarships and other options too

quaint vortex

Okay so similar to Scotland it seems. Maybe i should move lmao. Australia is basically done with covid too, right? or is it only a specific states at the moment?

I did it at first when I moved to London but train prices are crazy and it put a dent in whatever rent savings I would have made plus it took ages to get home when I’d been on the piss and if a friend wanted to meet up in town on a weekend or whatever it was a hassle. My completely unsolicited advice: bite the bullet with rent (reading/Woking/Guildford aren’t THAT much cheaper as city boys commute that way) and be able to enjoy the city.

Yeah, It's a balancing act

When I go to London I either take a direct route from my local station to Paddington (takes longer) or from my local station to reading main station and then to Paddington (takes way quicker)

Slow cooker Apple & Pear pie with oat and pecan topping by yours truly along with Mother Blund blobheart

#

Man this slow cooker highkey best thing ever

#

Ingredients:
4 apples, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch slices
3 Bosc pears, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch slices
1/3 cup light brown sugar
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
Pinch of ground nutmeg

Ingredients for the topping:

3/4 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup old fashioned oats
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/3 cup light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
8 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into cubes

Directions:

  1. To make the topping, combine flour, oats, pecans, sugar, cinnamon and salt in a medium bowl. Add cold butter and toss to coat, using your fingers to work the butter into the dry ingredients until it resembles coarse crumbs; set aside.

  2. Lightly coat the inside of a 4-qt slow cooker with nonstick spray. Place apples, pears into the slow cooker. Stir in brown sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg. Sprinkle with reserved topping, using your fingertips to gently press the crumbs into the batter.

  3. Place a clean dishtowel over the slow cooker. Cover and cook on low heat for 2-3 hours or high heat for 90 minutes. Remove the dishtowel and continue cooking, uncovered, until the topping is browned and the apples are just tender, about 1 hour.

  4. Serve warm

any THM course aiming a bit on practice stuff for CISSP? or advices to look for this cert? should there be other certs to do before?

#

been a it tech/admin for 8 years but never did project management really... really looking into a professional move into sec, eventualy asap management position

# vernal python any THM course aiming a bit on practice stuff for CISSP? or advices to look for ...

CISSP is a theory-based cert and it's aimed at people with several years experience in the field. Once you pass the test you have to go through the endorsement process listed on their site.

https://www.isc2.org/Certifications/CISSP#collapse3

The CISSP is ideal for experienced security practitioners, managers and executives interested in proving their knowledge across a wide array of cybersecurity practices.

#

You also have to maintain the cert by undergoing further training on a regular basis

vernal python
#

instead of doing general stuff/challenges. Like, I guess the defensive path is more focus on such a cert?

trail cove
#

For CISSP you need a broad range of general knowledge in many areas. The content on THM would help but you'll need other resources as well.
