Testing gear on the terrace though sounds a lot better than going on shorter hikes and testing there lol
Apparently I overestimated the price, it was around 80โฌ ๐
I do want one of those alpine Mats though
I wouldn't mind going out on a shorter hike, but there's 30cm wet snow everywhere, not too tempting ๐
But what bag would that be? I think I'll just get a tent for this summer, but might upgrade my other gear at some point.
3kg backpack and 2kg sleeping bag is also pretty much to haul around - even for these reasonably small climbs.
I forget the name of the bag. I remember it's obnoxiously orange, made in the USA in Colorado I believe
I'll find it when I get home
Oh it might actually be the Western mountaineering bags
At least Katabatic seems to make ultralight sleeping quilts, but do they make bags as well...
In the cooking channel, risotto
I made some cloudberry compote.
Also some fish
Yum
๐ those kind of look like fish you would see in a cartoon
Or a video game
yo
To me those look like giant lobster claws but I would assume they aren't that and are some kind of filet
This channel should be converted to a food channel
Or just make a health/food channel ๐ค
It's "Rouget" in French
This channel is the unofficial thm cooking channel
Oh OK. Striped Red Mullet according to Google
I don't think ive had that type before. It's not really native to the US eastern seaboard
It's Mediterranean
Good fish but it does not support overcooking at all
Like it's best when it's basically rare/medium-rare
Yeah we've mainly got Cod here
Cod is good too :D
I'm not sure what the fish for Virginia is
Probably cod as well :D
But Massachusetts has a place called Cape Cod
Yeah I know
Am Canadian
Cape cod is reasonably well known
There's also a welcoming ritual in Newfoundland which involves Screech and a cod.
Not the typical destination
Not much in Moncton sadly
And then dropped down into Maine from moncton and accidentally went offroading in a Honda odyssey
The Walmart in moncton saved my but
Haha
I thought i popped a tire at the Bay of Fundy and had to haul butt back to Moncton while trying to avoid getting pulled over by RCMP
Pretty sure I just slipped the bead and they just "warrantied" the tire
Didn't cost me a dime
GJ
Yeah..... An empty snow covered parking lot + yelling "Tokyo Drift!" while two-stepping the Odyssey around a corner = hitting an unseen curb under the snow like a dummy
The choice of vehicle is a bit suspect there
The Honda odyssey was my first car. Now I drive an Outback
u should try it with saffron and on top of it in the plate put some cheese like grated pecorino
America's wildest soccer mom minivan starts the by day running errands and dropping the kids off at school before unwinding its 1000+hp twin-turbo V6 with some burnouts. Famed tuner, Bisimoto Engineering transformed a 2014 Honda Odyssey into one insane Power Van - as proven here.
Stay tuned for the July Honda issue for more crazy brand builds!
...
It's too bad the outback costs an arm and a leg to put speed parts on that actually have an affect
Sorry I don't have 3 days to sit at a gas station to charge my car
Before someone takes that literally I know it doesn't take 3 days to charge an electric car
Arguably, if you're driving far enough that you need to charge it then you should probably be taking breaks on that journey
The US is pretty big. 200 miles is nothing
Specifically idk how long it takes the id3 to charge but I drive 100 miles everyday for work. The range is around 200 miles for the vehicle which means there isn't even a guarantee that I would have enough to drive two days
Charge it at work?
I'd have to go to the local gas station every day for probably an hour just to drive the vehicle
No chargers at or near work
And i live in an apartment complex with jo chargers or outlets for electrical vehicles
Where are you seeing those numbers?
Wikipedia says 205 miles
Different trim levels have different batteries, motors, and chargers
That's another argument lol. Limiting battery capacity and the effectiveness of the car to higher trims
Idk of any gas cars that give smaller tanks to base models
A larger tank for a petrol car is a tiny bit more raw material. Dollars extra cost at most.
the effectiveness of the car to higher trims - U sure? That's what better engines do. My last car had a 1L as the base model, bigger engines with turbos for higher trims.
Right i understand that argument
When I say effectiveness I mean range specifically
You use a car to get from point a to point b. Performance upgrades I would consider a different section
You're driving 100 miles each way every day and can't charge an electric car. NGL, you're definitely not the target market?
Didn't say I was?
All the arguments made it seem that way. There's a lot of nice schemes for chargers at workplaces or homes.
Hmm didn't intend that. I was just answering the questions
Convenience isn't a selling point for electric cars. They might very well require additional effort, like installing or finding convenient chargers etc
they have other pros
see if you can get your work to install a charger. Had a coworker that did that. Between that and a government subsidy for electric cars (this was a while back), he basically got the car for free
I literally just bought the outback. And I don't think I'm going to convince the USG anytime soon. They're a little slow ๐
i dunno, that might actually be easier. There might be some loophole or something that says they need to
I gave in. The air fryer is awesome
Air fryers are the bomb
I was never is a dorm but boi I would have definitely wanted this sucker
air fryers ๐
Air fryers are like peak reheating for fast food
Air fryers are awesome
Clothing iron grilled cheese and quesadillas were the bomb though
mmmmmm grilled cheese......my favorite is rye bread muenster cheese and granny smith apple slices
Yeah we just took what we could sneak back from the chow hall lol
So it was generally whole wheat or white and then shredded cheddar
thats okay haha in the end its melted cheese XD
In the winter we could get fancy because we could make "fridges", aka hang laundry bags out the window because it was below freezing every day for 3 months
hey how clever!Talk about obtaining improv skills
Yup improv skills and public speaking were two things that greatly improved there. I had to give a speech on bears once. 5 minutes of preparation for a 10 minute speech. Twas brutal but I did it lol
I've missed a lot. Firstly, Happy Easter y'all! Secondly air fryers are great. Thirdly, my first car, which is my current car, is a Ford Fusion named "Molly Hatchet"
Bred
Time to make the Parmigiana
Parmigiana update: I don't know what I am doing and it has gone off the rails. Instructions unclear. Eggplant stuck in toaster
...toaster? ๐
Nah I think I added a little too much oil to my sauce. I'm letting it simmer now while I am sweating the eggplant
That's probably normal tbh
If its really too greasy, adding more cheese could soak in some oil
but dont worry, first attempts dont have to go well
and thats a good looking bread
Prior to fry
Hopefully they will shrink some more
Got the breading station set up. See you on the other side
more cheese might make it greasier though
good luck, and dont stress, it will surely be tasty anyway ๐
would it? If you add some dried, aged parmesan?
maybe, i dunno
Yeah I'm not really stressing. This is my first time basically cooking anything of substance
cheese is basically fat
Or not meal prep I should say
i couldnt spend easter with my family this year, so had to cook something on my own... heres a quiche
TIL: UK bicycles have brakes setup in reverse compared to EU standards.
Good looking quiche though
Everything else on the road is backwards
yeah, but I didn't think that goes for bike brakes as well
But how actually is that reversed? Brake handles are swapped? When you press brake, the bike accelerates? You have to press the brakes for the whole duration of the ride?
maybe you have to pull them instead of pushing
and btw, i didnt even know that there is a standard bike brakes
I thought it was right hand for rear brake?
At least it was the same in Germany when I was there. Right hand break because you Signal with left
I remember some old bikes where the break went on when you pedaled backwards
Yeah that's common in the Netherlands apparently
is it like lasagne but with eggplant
Yeah this one is layered but you could also cook them like chicken cutlets for pasta
Probably the most labor intensive thing I've made cooking wise. Took about 6 hours
I will add this is with a quick and dirty sauce as well. I believe my grandmothers sauce takes 6-8 hours on its own lol
I used to cook at an italian restaurant and prepping eggplant cutlets was always a huge pain in the ass
damn i think i spend like total of 6 hours in kitchen last week
mainly because i don't like cleaning it up
thats why you buy cast-iron and make one-pan/pot recipes :p
Get a cast iron casserole, enamelled. Make stews.
I've got that Pyrex casserole you saw in the picture. If I get a bigger one it will probably be a la creuset
After Action on the Eggplant Parm: I surprised myself and its actually really good. The sauce is thr only downside so far as it is pretty thin and oily
should've made your grandmother's sauce in parallel
I curse this modern kitchen ware. 200euro for a pot. My grandma still has some pots she got from communist times, they're like 60 years old, were for almost free and are still like new
anyway, looks good. I hope you enjoyed it
What's up?
look i dont know i'm here rieght but do you use linux?
So you have a linux-related question?
yes
most people here havy a varying degress of linux experience, it's best to just ask your question and see if someone can answer
look i install linux to my apple m1 about parallels. i want to test phishing. there was a lot of vidieos i look and i make everything rieght, but there wasnt a link showing. is the problem that i have it on mac and its not so good updated or what?
sorry for my english
if you are using parallels your virtual machine should work I think, you could try other virtual machine software. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "test phishing" however.
it's a bit vague on what's "not working" exactly either
I was so tired today I burnt toast 2 times. Third times the charm
Lol
Oh in other news! We're getting our bathroom redone. Our shower will be bigger AND it will have a BENCH.
Now I can sit down and think about my life choices comfortably.
I just got a confirmation of payment for my bike, perhaps they'll deliver it as promised.
@still maple I have a garden tub i have to thikn about replacing.. got any sketches of your space/concept layout for bathroom?
I remember this one bathroom in a hotel i visited.. amazing shower
Like 3 shower heads on two opposite walls
Best shower I have been in was an Airbnb in Norway
I think the head was made by Oras?
I don't really think about life choices in the bathroom though
I'm thinking about my choice to give up caffeine for a week
My head feels like it's being cracked like a nut
I never gave up caffeine, I just rolled back how much I drank
Do you know if metasploitable3 vm includes DVWA and that OWASP10 test thing that metasploitable2 had? I'm thinking about trashing metasploitable2 to save disk space. but 3 is taking forever to install.
I guess I can just wait though.
๐ฆ
@wanton dove There are rooms with those boxes, no need to have them locally
On THM? Only DVWA.
Oh, sry. I thought I remembered some other as well
You got this! Maybe drink beer instead ๐
in most cases, upper class hotels tend to use Hans Grohe showers, they are really good but so expensive
i do recommend them, nonetheless, i personally have one of them
@everyone
@burnt night ^

very quite in here :P
Good
shhhh
very quite what now lol
the sound of silence is intoxicating

Vpn?
That's why you need today's sponsor, NordVPN!
Lmao at this point I should really get a VPN
i use express:D
well each to their own really, as long as you can trust it and it gets the job done, shouldn't really matter
protonvpn is also pretty nice
even recommended by privacytools.io
but if you're looking for anonymity in the net, vpn isnt the golden bullet
This. I was going to mention this earlier but I forgot.
All it does is move your traffic to a different exit point. You can still be tracked because your browser has a fingerprint as well as some other things

Damn they got lucky
I took the FAA ground classes as a class in Uni and we spent so much time on calculating loads.
LOAD ""
I'm honestly amazed there were no crashes or instances of running out of fuel mid flight
I'm a bit confused.
why is pass the hash a thing?
because of the way that microsoft accepts authentication in varied ways depends on the protocol used?
what's the point of storing the password hashed in the database when you can just send whatever is in the database? it completely removes the need to know the password
it's the same as storing the passwords cleartext in the database. it's horrible. why is microsoft doing that shit?
So that you're not transmitting passwords in plaintext?
Ok, but this is historic. It's why is pass the hash still a thing
anyhow... it works
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pass_the_hash#Description like the first sentence here, gives a lil bit on why and a citation to learn more.
In cryptanalysis and computer security, pass the hash is a hacking technique that allows an attacker to authenticate to a remote server or service by using the underlying NTLM or LanMan hash of a user's password, instead of requiring the associated plaintext password as is normally the case. It replaces the need for stealing the plaintext passwo...
yeah, it's basic legacy support to applications
Yeah, and the section I linked explains why it works that way...
something like WMI services and sensors for example, they can either use WMI or SNMP
SNMP = Security is Not My Problem
And also includes citations and various other resources to learn more about why it works like that.
snmpv3 is actually better than password hash ๐
wmi uses password hash which can be intercepted
Question is, do you work in an AD environment to know why stuff works this way?
@meager mason
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gimli_Glider is a well known case
Air Canada Flight 143 was a Canadian scheduled domestic passenger flight between Montreal and Edmonton that ran out of fuel on July 23, 1983, at an altitude of 41,000 feet (12,500 m), midway through the flight. The flight crew successfully glided the Boeing 767 to an emergency landing at a former Royal Canadian Air Force base in Gimli, Manitoba ...
Yep
There was actually an event going on at the time the plane went to land an the pilot thought he ran over a kid riding a bicycle
I thought Gimli was a LoTR dwarf.
And the movie had Legolas surfing, not Gimli gliding.
holy moly although yeah as long as you are not in the middle of the ocean, you certainly can glide to somewhere... but how does a plane run out of fuel
miscalculating load I guess
The accident is commonly blamed on mistaking pounds for kilograms, which resulted in the aircraft carrying only 45% of its required fuel load.[6][7]
they always try fly with only the fuel they will need + a bit
apparently that was only one of the issues... but seriously... damn metric system always causing errors
but like... you are not even half the way through your flight and your tank is nearing empty... don't you go 'huh? guess we have a problem'
The 767 was one of the first airliners to include an electronic flight instrument system, which operated on the electricity generated by the aircraft's jet engines. With both engines stopped, the system went dead and most of the screens went blank, leaving only a few basic battery-powered emergency flight instruments. While these provided sufficient information to land the aircraft, the backup instruments did not include a vertical speed indicator that could be used to determine how far the aircraft could glide.
I guess that's why it doesn't happen often but a bunch of people making mistakes at the same time
wow
I had to drive a car without a working electrical system... that was... not good
imagine a plane
If it's not power steering, I imagine it'd be ok
if the entire dash is electric it could be sketchy
it was rainy, I had no blinker, no horn, no windshield wipers, no lights... (the electrical system went out while driving, I didn't realize I didn't have a horn or lights)
Ok no lights is not great
or blinker til I tried to turn
oh dear wow yeah that's nightmare material
it was kind of hilarious but kind of not...
i know that feel - two years ago we had a really big snowstorm, my 20 minute commute turned into a 5-hour one, my phone died after about 3 hours and my heat, defrosters and wiper blades stopped working shortly after that too
so had to drive with my head out of the window for a good while, not a great day haha
wow not a good day
Yeah it's mainly miscalculation but could also be due to the plane hitting weather or something causing increased drag. Planes actually don't fill up all the way on flights because the added weight causes a higher fuel burn
If you want Audio commentary on this incident there is a podcast called "Blackbox Down" and they went in depth on it
Running out of fuel is the majority cause of failure in private plane crashes. For lighter single engine planes, fuel is stored in the wings to help with ballast. If the fuel runs too low, the wings generate too much lift and snap off.
Now that I didnโt know
I feel like my workout isnt effective
It's also the reason why there are so few survivors of cessna crashes
do you mean hacking or just a general fitness workout?
dinner: pizza with cold smoked salmon and sour cream.
I had my first attempt at making dough last night
Did you do the slow rise in the fridge?
@scarlet moth that flight was just around when Canada had started to convert to the metric system as well
It was an absolute mess lol. I've got it in the fridge now and we shall see how the pizza comes out tomorrow
Making Sicilian style
my food of the day is seitan stew
it's similar to the rocket problem. Add more fuel = heavier rocket = needs more fuel to lift the extra fuel...
IIRC the Saturn V rocket was somewhere like 90% fuel by weight on the ground
My liver absolutely hates me eating the Eggplant Parm everyday
made too much?
Today is the last day of the parm
mmm pizza, wish I could find sour cream in France though...
Portioned it out for the week but it's very dense
closest I can get is yoghurt
Creme fraiche?
I should have just left the pieces frozen and then had it for the next 6 weeks
Creme fraรฎche is not sour cream, it's just cream
Couldn't you just make the sour cream yourself?
yeah with crรจme fraรฎche and some vinegar maybe
I touched a rocket on the ground before... its amazing that without fuel, it has so much bounce
but it's never quite the same
It's soured cream for sure.
Maybe if you put it in a blender?
Wikipedia is wrong ๐
Ehh that might add too much air
I dunno though
It's not just wikipedia...
it similar to sour cream, but not quite the same consistency or taste
Even in proper french cooking, it's a soured cream that's slightly less sour and a bit creamier than sour cream.
it's much less sour than sour cream
I'm not a fan of sour cream honestly
sour cream is gross
https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crรจme_aigre this is sour cream in French
Actually the one I used was sold under the name "creme fraiche", but it's not exactly the French style creme fraiche ๐
Also cut the heads off your fish you cretins lol
leave the heads on, it is great to see one big eye staring at your from the plate
blub
I don't want to have to go on an archeology expedition just to get to eat a small portion of fish
well you don't for small fish, just medium to large
Acid + heavy cream or creme fraiche
That was more towards not de-boning
what, cutting heads off fish before serving them? ๐ฎ
@spark sun yes but it's never the same
if you are cooking the fish whole, no de-bone, if you are doing fillets de-bone
That's true, Hydra. Better than nothing though.
๐คทโโ๏ธ French cooking sometimes makes sense and other times is absolutely confusing/slightly gross
Or twenty eyes staring at you, that's even better.
I guess that goes for all cuisine though
French is bloody annoying to prepare most of the time, but usually worth it
Well you never hear about Finnish cuisine, it's at all times confusing/gross ๐
But gods do I want deep fried Dill pickles sometimes
My only experience with Finnish cuisine is Restaurant Nili
oh well - we don't have surstrรถmming like the swedes have...
Thought that stuff was Finnish
It's sold in Finland, but not really a big thing here.
Wait no but I'm sure there's something similar
When I went to Norway and Finland all I ate was Reindeer, Bear, some white fish, and berries
And it was amazing
Reindeer is mostly a thing in Lapland, Bear is a niche thing in any case. White fish, oh yes. There's good stuff made of those.
Yeah Reindeer was in Oslo and then in Alta
Bear was in Finland along with the white fish
I need to go back to Nili and get the rack of bear
Oh Alta. I wonder if I could make it there in the summer.
We went close by last July, but we didn't have passports for the dogs so didn't have a possibility to stay overnight in Norway.
Yes, it was possible to travel abroad with COVID cases being at single digits per day in both countries at that time.
Yeah that Norway/Finland border crossing is weird or at least the one we went through lol
We expected to be stopped but just drove through lol
It was weird seeing border control at the western border ๐
Thank goodness the signs were in English lol
Where did you cross the border? Kilpisjรคrvi?
Uhh let me look at Google maps
or near Kautokeino?
Yep, did that last summer ๐
Valtakunnanraja
That's "state border" ๐
Enontekiรถ is one of the prime hiking destinations in Finland. Look up Hetta-Pallas if you're interested.
I think I've heard of that
the route starts from the huge urban centre of Enontekiรถ ๐
by huge I'm talking about a whopping 555 people.
oh, they've finally shipped my new tent.
Yeah idk when I'm going to get back over there. The last trip was only possible due to me being in Berlin at the time
Also Canada is absolutely UUUUGE
well if you do, feel free to reach out to me ๐
Oh no doubt
I'd like to try within the next 2 years but we shall see
I'm also trying to go to Africa and hike Kili
after all, it's only six hours drive from here to Rovaniemi ๐
Aww that ain't bad
without any breaks, assuming there's no traffic disruptions and with summer speed limits.
Canada's really big.
Last I checked about 4500 km from St John's to Victoria
Give or take 10%
There are 5 timezones, including Newfoundland I'd guess between 10 and 15 degrees per time zone, so yeah 40 makes sense
And that'll be longitude
wouldn't that be for longitude? ๐
Though the claim also works for latitude...
Southernmost point as around 42 or 43 degrees, near Niagara falls
I think the claim goes to the pole
As with most of the Nordic countries
hmph! That's what we lost in WW2 ๐
Blame the Brits
S'what we do for Dieppe
Hey let's send the Canadians to assault the most heavily fortified beach in the world!
It'll be fine, they're french
I'm happy to blame the brits, they declared war on Finland after all.
Who haven't they declared war on though?
I mean they declared war on Canada...
(back when it was New France)
Was it during Napoleonic wars?
Before
Thirty years war of memory serves
I mean it was technically against France at the time
Oh.
There were proxy wars everywhere
yep. The most part we learnt about it in history classes was the involvement of Gustavus Adolphus the king of Sweden, and the Finnish soldiers involved in his campaigns.
My history classes were mostly about New France
And post-conquest, what was becoming known as Canada
You guys have fun bits as well
Well we used to be part of Sweden ๐
There's a story told at the tours of the Citadel in Quebec city that had the french general Montcalm not waited to have breakfast before moving out his troops, he could have taken the high ground and held off the English
I didn't realize how big until I was looking up Canadian National parks and nature reserves on the east coast. I found one that sounded cool and went to plot a drive to it and found out there were no roads in that part of Canada
Which park?
I'd have to google
Ok which province then?
Give me a second
Either way it's entirely possible
I wanna say Newfoundland and Labrador
It might have been Torngat mountains but I'm not 100%. id have to look at my computer
Newfoundland should have a few roads, but there's not much in Labrador
According to the wiki when I read it you had to go in by plane
Torngat exists, yeah there's no roads
Ice roads in winter maybe
Road doesn't go much higher than Goose Bay
The reason for going was Northern lights and polar bears
It'll be easier for the former in Finland
Keep in mind it might not be Torngat. The place was also coastal if I remember correctly
I believe there are polar bears around Hudson's Bay
Torngat is coastal
But nobody lives remotely near there
Nearest village seems to be Kangiqsualujjuaq
No I did not type random letters
I'm going to say it was Torngat
It's all tundra up there iirc
Yeah i just like to see new places. There doesn't have to be anything there. I just tried to scroll back in my search history but I guess the goog only goes back a year
That seems to be roughly on the same latitude as Paris ๐
It is weird that Europe is higher latitude wise yet warmer than the Northern Americas
Like whats really weird is that Maine is the closest state to Africa
That's pretty weird, although I guess it makes sense because the East coast of US dips inward. Atlanta is about 3 1/2 hours from Savannah (which is an Atlantic port city) but it is actually west of Detroit
The Gulf stream is powerful stuff
Another thing that's weird are Hack Squats
@tribal heart Portugal special at my local supermarket
ahah superbock, sumol, chickpeas and beans and some random chouriรงo
Not hot enough outside yet to buy super bock
legit portuguese products we see everyday though. Portuguese community in france do be like that.
that's just beans. The cups are jelly
Yeah there's a large Portugese community in this town
Beans I think
lupin beans ๐
Those are delicious as well
When I was in Berlin playing rugby one of our sponsors was in importer of South African goods and would always give us stuff. Some of the sauces and meat rubs were amazing and he also made us some meat dish though I forget the name and it was also delicious
Must not make joke..... PG-13.....
lupini beans? I love those things
Spring is here!
Still see snow ๐
But it's melting, and you can see it in the rapids ๐
Nice pic๐ฏ
that's a good thaw there

i cri
What ? why? @devout scarab
It's a joke

It's quiet conversation here. It's meant to be less hectic that general
ah, gotcha
How's your day been?
It's been fun so far! XD and yours ??????
It's been alright thank you!
Hope it gets better !
I noticed some strange behavior with sshuttle and chisel while doing wreath. can someone explain it to me?
I used sshuttle onto the linux webserver and then set up a chisel server on the windows host for port forwarding. I tried connecting to it with a chisel client on port 16337 but it just wouldn't connect. then i tried port 16338 and it worked fine, nothing else was different.
What could it be? I might have been running socat on the first host, listening on port 16337, but the host was excluded from sshuttle
My first guess would be the port was closed in the firewall. There's also the #wreath-network channel just for that room
I was under the impression that chisel didn't play well with other things - I might be mistaken though
you have to use chisel in wreath, it involves multiple distinct boxes, only 1 of which is accessible externally
well, I probably shouldn't say HAVE TO- there are other options. But chisel is one of the ways (and the recommended way) to pivot during part of it
What should I make next?
I've done salt & pepper steak, Eggplant Parm, baked ziti, and a pizza
Mujadara is a go-to for me
I should specify. My Saturdays are my cheat day and I make a meal that satisfys the fat kid in me
Mujadara does look good though so I may add that to my regular diet rotation
i usually prep out burrito bowls, chipotle-lime chicken thighs are dead easy and always come out great
M-F it's a bagel, Mediterranean snack box (turkey cold cuts, carrots, little bit of hummus, and some kalamata olives), omlette, and then pork
Oh and a protein shake after the workout
Saturday it depends and Sunday is usually light like a salad
you calorie counting or just winging it?
I stay below 2400, usually consume 1600-2000
niice
And then i dont increase for workout so yeah
sounds healthy and sustainable
Yeah just got to stick to it
you can do it! I do too, except weekends sometimes I feel I ruin my entire weeks progress >.<
Yeah i need to get back to it. I'm at the tail of a horrendous spike and would like to not be a blimp
just. do. it!
Also do I lift the outback or not ๐ค decisions decisions
can i put hot milk in the fridge
rule of thumb - let things cool down to room temp before refrigerating
oo okay
i wanna make choccy milk so i'm just gonna make normal hot chocolate and let it cool ๐ค
nice, i got this powdered "drinking chocolate" mix thats pretty bitter but still tasty
ohh yeah i got some too, wanna try with actual chocolate doe
Do it!
Depends on how hot but you should let it cool a little and then put it into the fridge uncovered
Sometimes hot things can raise the temp of thr fridge too much though which isn't good. Commercial fridges don't really have that issue though
Generally the rule of thumb is cool it in two hours or less
If you place anything warm in the fridge it will cause condensation to form on the inside, this will ruin all your ingredients. It also messes with the fridge in some way I can't explain.
Yes that's why I said to allow it to cool a bit before putting it in the fridge and to not cover it
If you need it cooled completely and quickly take a bowl, put ice in it, take another bowl with your milk, and then place the second bowl in the ice bowl
heyy
Spring?
So Do you guys eat lettuce?
Sometimes
That could be some kind of a Zombie-dog
that is a cabbage... sorry for ruining this for you
I've actually had a few heads of lettuce that look like that
That is definitely cabbage. Iceberg lettuce looks somewhat like that, but definitely not the same.
That went east really quickly
dang, now I want coleslaw

WWV is a shortwave (also known as "high frequency" or HF) radio station, located near Fort Collins, Colorado. It is best known for its continuous time signal broadcasts begun in 1945, and is also used to establish official United States government frequency standards, with transmitters operating on 2.5, 5, 10, 15, and 20 MHz, as well as an "expe...
This is pretty rad
Risotto day.
The English speakers do not even add mushrooms to their mushroom risotto
simmering the rice in wine is kinda a weird step, I would sweat the onions and garlic in a separate pan with the wine until reduced, and toast the rice in a dry pan before slowly adding stock
normally i'd get dried mushrooms and just throw em in when the rice is like halfway done
But what's that with two tablespoons of Parmigiano Reggiano?
oh yeah thats some rookie numbers right there
sometimes ill get rinds and throw em in
theres a bunch of ways to make risotto tbh, most important thing i've learned is just keeping the stock at the right temperature and to never stop stirring
What? I always add mushrooms
Wait i need to read better
Look at the recipe above. In other languages it's "Fry onion and mushrooms" ๐
Yep I saw after I opened my mouth
Risotto was followed by jogging and blueberry muffins.
From scratch
Good plan
No idea but I've made $100 so far
Someone I know said they had bought a bitcoin and more in 2016 or so. And lost their password.
...and just the other day, they were able to recover that password.
And discovered that their wallet was stolen
I just placed a sell order for a bulk of my doge if it hits $1
Well, that didn't happen. I'm not sure if they sold already at $60k.
Yeah I'm still salty af about Bitcoin
Bitcoin is stupid
It sure is stupid.
I had the opportunity to buy it at $5 a coin and was going to buy $100 worth but my parents told me not to
Hindsight is 20/20 though
well, you might have sold at $100, $1000 or something, and then be salty about that.
Doge to the moon! ๐

What are peoples thoughts on the FBI being given carte blanche authority to hack into "unsecured" networks without the owners knowledge or permission?
on one side, they're own damn problem for not being secure
on the other, that's constitutionally illegal I think, 4th amendment or something
What amazes me are the people that lucked into working for a company that made it big in the 90s. A couple friends of mine were early employees of Yahoo, they cashed out and retired in their 30s
also true
they actually were able to get a warrant to kill the just the webshell
I think it falls under the same category of not locking an entry door, or leaving car keys in the ignition
F that. Its a slippery slope that can lead to, "oh we just released a 0-day ourselves and decided to hack into your network and patch it."
i understand this case is somewhat unique, but we're seeing breaches like this every other quarter or so now
if you actually look at what they did and how they did it, it all fell under government guidelines
I highly disagree with that sentiment
fair enough, I haven't read a ton on it - i've mostly read some alarmist headlines on the topic :p
I would argue that just because it is within guidelines doesn't make it right. I still need to do more reading though
Leaving a network or website unsecured is exactly like that though. It's not inviting someone in, but it is the same reasoning for having authentication and authorization processes, either in meat space or cyber space. Dont' want random people coming through an entry point? Put some basic security on it.
But LEO can't just walk into an unlocked house. In this case specifically what happens if the FBI come across some insert illegal activity? Is this now fruit of the poisonous tree? There was no warrant for search issued
Like I said I still have to read some more but the FBI doesn't need more extralegal authority
Anyone that has an idea how to fix this with burpsuite in Kali? It suddenly started acting this way
I didn't say it was legal to do so. I had a roommate who left the front door unlocked and we got robbed; cops basically told us it was our fault. I definitely think its over reach, but not securing stuff is terrible practice.
Itโs less about bad practice in general and more about what took place. This is also not the first example of questionable stuff happening though so is it really surprising
Ok, but in that situation imagine it was the cops who robbed the house.
Also there is now just a blanket excuse of "oh they had a vulnerable exchange server"
hmm thats weird, I can't find much on that issue specifically for burpsuite but found this https://stackoverflow.com/questions/65737245/java-lang-nullpointerexception-cannot-read-the-array-length-because-local3
maybe re-install or update java?
the java update could be a solution. I did try reinstall
thanks. reverted to openjdk 13 and it seems to work now
nice, thanks for letting me know, something to note ๐
It's always Java lol
note that java 13 is not supported, probably since last year
soo which should be used?
11 is the latest LTS version. 16 is still supported until September or so, 17 will be LTS
ok 17 was the one that broke things
isn't that still unreleased?
I'd look at more stable versions of the Java runtime to be honest. LTS versions are going to be your best bet; I see a lot products based on 8 and 11 in the wild.
https://openjdk.java.net/projects/jdk/17/ general availability 2021/09/14. It's not even in rampdown at this point, so you can expect instability ๐
true. I had 11 running but it did not work for some tool I needed to use so I tried with the newer versions (that actually worked for that).
Taco beef, cajun onion rings, tomato, piquillo, and bell pepper salad. Cilantro/coriander garnish.
Looks good
looks at doge +369%

That was a quick spring lol
And summer can last for anything from an hour to a few months!
And it's definitely not thermal summer yet, that's defined by average temp for a day being above ten degrees!
It's 64ยฐ and cloudy right now
That's like a cold sauna! (And I know you're talking F)
With 40% humidity
around 11 degrees here, and sunny.
It's April. I've never lived in a place where there isn't still snow right now
I want my wtf snowstorm in May
I wonder how the Brits can handle the crisis https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-gloucestershire-56748561
only in England
never gnome alone
Are those Google enabled gnomes?
Oh my, someone had the idea of creating garden gnomes that turn to look at you when you walk past them - but only if you're not looking directly at them.
Love having my own brand of coffee cup
I remember looking into wire-tapping a while ago. That way it is supposed to be is that the NSA needs to get a warrant through probable cause, as required by the 4th Amendment. The potential issue is that those warrants are often issued by courts without the knowledge of the subject. If the FBI is hacking American citizens without a establishing probable cause in court, they are in clear violation of the Constitution.
A snowstorm in May sounds awful
I would buy that
Probable cause died years ago. All they have to do is claim "terrorism" and you lose all rights as a US citizen
Indefinite detention, no reading of rights, etc
I can't say I know enough to comment. If that is true, that is certainly an issue.
But honestly it's too nuanced a convo to have on an online platform but if you would like to know more I suggest reading about the the bills passed immediately after 9/11

there's a bar in Paris called the Moose as well
It's a Canadian pub, where you can actually sometimes get a decent poutine and/or a Caesar
the beer is just Moosehead though and that's sorta sad
Yeah my only experience with anything French were the French-Canadians in Quรฉbec
Definitely got shit talked in French
All I know is "Dรฉsolรฉ je ne parle pas franรงais" and I heavily butcher it every time lol
eh that much helps a bit
Yeah a bar tender started talking to a friend in French and the guy finished and I butchered my way through that statement and added a "sorry" to the end. Dude got all huffy and just dagger eyed us the rest of the night
I did say a bit
maybe some parts of Montreal might forgive you...
like the part near Westmount.
Hydra, do you speak french french or canadian french or neither?
And then some pedestrian got super pissy when I was a little bit in the crosswalk because I was on an absolutely massive hill with a front 2wd vehicle while it was snowing
yeah....they're the same ones who'll just run the red light though
Yeah he stopped until I backed up off the flat spot on the hill
I'm sorry
people are dumb
tbf though, snow tires are mandatory between november and april in Quebec
I think the fine is on the order of $600 per tire not in compliance
Lol I don't think ive ever run Winter tires
you got lucky then
Honestly lucky I didn't get pulled over by Quebec police
yeah
I've heard it's an absolute shit show
if you don't speak French, then yeah I can see that
Like I followed all of the rules and everything but I heard after we got back in person and online that they just pull you over, charge you with something, and then impound your vehicle
Moncton and Bay of Fundy 10/10 though
Yeah it was on expeditionportal and then the dude who rides around on the Honda C90s had an experience
I mean if you're looking for trouble....
Nah both instances were vehicles passing through on overlanding trips
A C90 Is basically a moped
Taco Tuesday but it's Friday
So Taco Saturday?
that looks good
are those bell peppers, tomatos, and cheese?
Yea, and some spinach in with the beef
Eh, taco meat was pre-cooked so it was quick. I realised I hadn't eaten

Good Morning y'all! My first food post: cheddar bacon grits.
Where in the south are you ๐
Funny enough, Southern New Jersey. I'll be going to Georgia Tech for grad school, so I'm prepping myself.
Lol
Yeah i went to uni in Vermont but we still had grits because a lot of people came from the South
That's pretty cool, I love grits
It was only touched by the Georgians, Carolinians, Louisianans, and bayou Florida boys
I don't mind cream of wheat but grits was kind of meh
I'd imagine college caf grits are a little lesser quality then shrimp and grits from an upscale Charleston restaurant
Yeah I'm sure
Well I'll hopefully be down in North Georgia over the 4th of July so we shall see
Oh do you know about the Spanish moss?
Absolutely do not touch it
It's got these things called Chiggers and they will bite you and burrow into your skin
Oh yeah, I've heard them berry bugs are nasty
Yeah, they can be called chiggers, redbugs, or berry bugs
That's what a tour guide in Savannah, GA told us
Huh interesting. I did a city tour of Savannah and they only said the one name
That is a heck of city though, very pretty
Yeah it was very nice
I love the region but I hate the weather. I'm a cold weather person that needs snow
My family would go on trips to Florida a lot growing up, so I got used to associating oppressive heat and humidity with fun, so I like the hot weather now
I've never been to Georgia, but I imagine I would love the weather. But I'm not sure if I could take it around the year.
Parts of GA get a bit colder in the winter time (like Atlanta), rarely snow coat weather, but maybe nice jacket weather.
It's been 75ยฐ with 40% humidity here in VA and I'm already dieing
15 degrees today, but windy. It's not that warm when the lakes are still frozen.
Was near 11 here, broke out the bbq
Oh mate! I can alsway smell when the neighbours have a BBQ, but I don't have a garden so can't have one myself
BBQs are great!
mhm
Sunday baking
ooo yum
Mmmmm delicious ๐
my friend makes those when I visit her
Is she a Finn or a Swede? ๐
her grandma was Swedish
or maybe her mom was full Swedish but she makes a lot of Swedish stuff
think her mom was born in the US though
Yep. There's quite a lot of overlap in Finnish and Swedish kitchens.
What are those called? When I looked quickly I thought they were just lopsided cinnamon rolls but now I see that they are different
korvapuusti in Finnish, meaning "ear bun"
(it can also mean corporal punishment by pulling someone's ear)
It's a variant, yes. It has cardamom and cinnamon in it.
that looks damn good
Well it's mainly white flour, sugar and butter, so... ๐
one more...

Oh no, the delivery date for my bike order is apparently delivery from factory...
uh oh
And they deliver bikes in road transport. apparently driving from Germany to Finland takes two weeks.
So no bike for me next week ๐ข
@patent gate pizza time
It was an oven pizza that I added peppers to, I can't take much credit
oh that does look good but you seem awfully tall
Ah, I was genuinly impressed
The most important part of any food pic is having socks in it.
Only 5'7". Not that tall
That's just to appeal to @muted pivot
It's still good!
Lol sorry! I'm sure it was ๐
Made pizza too today
oh delicious! mmmmm I love pizza mmmmm ๐
Those pizzas look legit.

You can. Email support.
thanks
Those pizzas looked good
I am hungry now ๐ฆ I am on a diet
it looks more like a biscuit...
true dat! should probably make the next one with nutella and bananas
you did it great
my italian heart is screaming, but dw ily
yep, but the funny thing is that i once had such a pizza way down in calabria
the ingredients are good but the dough doesnt seem so
also if pizza is ONLY sweet is somehow acceptable
TBF a nicely savoury dough would offset a lot of the sweetness. Would be pretty good IMO.
uh james, at the end can you help me with the relevant room? i asked there as you said
No, I can't
@twin ridge you have the perfect recipe for poulet au vinaigre, right? ๐
are there any french recipes that are spicy?
At least one recipe I saw didn't have any sugar in it. Mainly red wine vinegar, creme fraiche and chicken stock. And garlic. Lots of it.
you can lower acidity of vinegar with other methods than sugar
If you count French Louisiana, yes. I don't think there are too many spicy foods native to Europe. Still, a lot of places where the French settled have a fusion of French and local cuisine.
I don't think that counts
I know
I require spice
I guess French Guiana is technically part of France. They may have some spice foods.
The French use good ingredients, they don't have to hide their taste with spice ๐
Don't diss proper hot sauce, son. ๐
Nah, I don't. It's good at times.
The brits need to rediscover it
Well the Brits have some stuff that I really like. Good Fish&Chips is great, and afternoon tea is brilliant.
I'm a bit biased but I cook a ton of spanish food, I go through garlic & onions + salt/pepper/spices very quickly
Oh and the vinegar crisps!
I don't even think Spanish food is really spicy is it?
maybe if they imported flavors/tastes from LatAm
or even Africa
depends, I dont use raw chilies much but I do used dried ones for pastes/rubs/salsas a lot
and thats typical of Spanish food?
Is Salsa Spanish or is that Latin?
I know southeast Asia has some very spicy food
Salsa varies but most spicy salsa is Mexican
isn't "salsa" just sauce ๐
no not that I can think of, I think mexican cuisine uses chilies more than other spanish/latin cuisines
its something specific though
ugh I just made elote yesterday with some imported cotija that was awesome
I was thinking food specifically from Spain, although I have been to a Spanish restaurant before... they did serve some roasted chiles
but I don't remember the other food stuff being spicy
gotcha, i forget if paella is Spain's dish but I've had a ton of that and not a huge fan tbh
I guess paella is spicy.
there's a good Spanish restaurant in the Boston area my friend took me to, and Jose Andres has a number of restaurants in the DC area, I went to one of his old ones that closed up, but it didn't yell Spain to me
Idk i took German as a language
paella is from Spain
I only took English, German, Swedish and then a tiny bit of Italian and Japanese ๐
anyway, husband and I are probably going to Spain next year
I'd love to go to the Alps once again, but maybe next summer.
nice my friend saved his gross shirt from the tomato festival in Spain
I'll bring my own hot sauce
I'm thinking I should start taking breakfast food with me when I'm visiting USA ๐
why is that?
Because hotel breakfasts in decently priced hotels are pretty awful ๐
favorite hot sauces anyone? always on the look for new ones, Im boring and partial to Cholula
and what do you consider breakfast food?
you don't eat breakfast in a hotel, that is just a mistake
Nothing I could actually take with me.

Marie Sharp's hot sauce is amazing but hard to get
ุงููุุ
I'm a Tapatio fan but I can do Cholula and Valentina
I also like Franks hot sauce for some specific things and Tabasco for some things
IM FROM KSA
Depends. In the Nordics or Italy it's not a mistake.
I guess like pancakes with bacon and eggs would be the quintessential "American" breakfast, but its such a regional thing, like if you're in the southwest you get huevos rancheros
Thank you :D
When I was in Italy, the breakfast wasn't great in hotels
ack
YA
Depends as well. The rural ones serve good stuff. City hotels don't.
Whereas in the Nordics you get decent stuff pretty much everywhere, and good breakfasts in a lot of places.
we were in one in Pompeii... it was hilariously bad but the hotel was so proud of it
Greece... we had the best hotel breakfasts
but in the US, skip the hotels
Oh I typically do. Because that's just a waste of time.
YA GOD
Although, once in San Francisco the hotel breakfast was excellent - but it cost something like $30

oh we stayed at a B&B in San Francisco and the breakfast was amazing
but B&B's are a bit different
the hotel was also like $300/night
Now I'm hungry, and i already had dinner ๐
and that's not unusually high for SF... Once I (or actually the company) paid something like $450 per night.
maybe we should go back, it was great
yeah thats true, when I went, I stayed at one of the Marriotts for a conference... it was pretty pricey because it was right across the street from the conference center
But that wasn't even bad compared to the tiny tiny room I had in Boston a couple of years back, it was probably $2400 for four nights.
this was away from city center
Honestly, most hotel continental breakfasts are pretty terrible. If the hotel doesn't have a restaurant that serves cooked to order, skip it. Hyatts, IMO, have the most consistent restaurants, and the trendy Marriots have the worst
union square kind of makes me sick though and a lot of hotels are there, I stayed in a haunted room or something near union square
this is where my husband and I went for our 10th anniversary... https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60713-d112358-Reviews-Parker_Guest_House-San_Francisco_California.html
It is LGBT friendly, right near a train line (whatever they call it) and incredibly cute victorian
lots of people said this is good to stay at in SF too https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60713-d2572857-Reviews-Inn_at_the_Presidio-San_Francisco_California.html
Hah, reminds me of time I booked a hotel from "Union Square" with a thought that it's close to Powell Street station for easy access with luggage. It was almost on top of Nob hill
ha
I haven't been there for years now. It's a nice city, although a bit far away in travel time. Although it's not a lot faster to get to Boston area, that's been a hub for some of the recent business meetings.
This one seems to be just next to Castro, no surprise it's LGBT+ friendly.
yeah, but its not on the main Castro strip so it is quiet
Oh I see.
I dunno if we'll stay there again or try the Presidio or something else
I'll probably just take something that is available. It's likely a business trip, it's not too fun travelling for 24h on vacation.
I don't think I'll be going back to SF for work as I moved off the project that had conferences in San Francisco
Not really, Basque cuisine might be a bit more though
I suppose the cream will help counter the acid

Can do virtually anything with those things -- they're incredible
I have a Pi 0 W (same as that one) literally sitting underneath my desk as a webserver
Tiny little thing
Plus a pair of Pi 4Bs downstairs -- one as a NAS / Jellyfin / Gitserver, the other as a Wireguard VPN and PiHole
And then never looked in to it again ๐
Bloodg hell Muiri is your home just a massive computer???
i have a pihole with vpn on a pi 3, but have a non used pi 4
Nah, but I do love a good cheap home lab ๐

woah its pi colocation
Ok this has gone beyond my knowledge of pi's

also this is cool :D
of course it runs oracle linux lul
I have so much to learn
wonder if it saves on electricty
i would guess so? i always underpowre my pis by accident ๐
now if only pi's could run multiple gpu's
You can run a single PCIe device
So maybe if your bandwidth isn't important you could do some crazy stuff with PLX chips
lul yeah but im too lazy and cheap to try ๐
Oh this would be ludicrously expensive, custom PCB territory most likely.
yepp
