Hey and welcome
Perseverance has landed
Yay robots!
It's got a helicopter and a pooper scooper. Science!
Whats folks friday dinner plans?
the big event tonight π
π
Whats this here big event?
Dark talk?
Mysterious
oh dear
H1 ctf?
tonight is mystery quiche night
Nope!
Love a quiche! Mystery part is unsettling haha
Ban Bee if it turns out to be a troll π€£
just means I don't yet know what will be in it
probably whatever's left in the fridge
I feels ya. Think im gonna make some italian sausage n leek pasta this eve
unconventional but could work
Ive got a jar of wholegrain mustard as it goes, may add a dollop. I find mustard can be a tad over-powering as a flavour within a dish so ill have to be careful with the quantity.
Will report back later on with my findings :)

already got enough?
Someone uploaded hundreds of parrot emojis to corporate hipchat at one point.
definitely a module that can be severely improved upon by Discord
they're hit or miss
there's probably GIF bots out there that are way more reliable
Mountains're nice
Oh wow! How pretty
nice place to spend whole life)
Well this was just an afternoon
I love mountains so much
i have many many film photos from my hikes π heres one from a few years ago
i have some great ones from lake tahoe too I need to dig up
Not a mountain but close enough
And here is one of my favorite that I've taken. Straight from camera no edits
Actually that one has a white balance correction excuse me
I also love climbing/living in mountains. not nearly as scenic as the pics posted above, but here's the view from my apartment window:
Yeah i live in the DMV now but I went to Uni in Vermont and lived in rural areas Massachusetts growing up. The two pictures were from Norway when a friend and I went during our study abroad week break. The fjord/mountain pic i actually took out of the car window lol
they're really nice photos! I live in Montana and hope to visit other mountainous areas at some point.
I'm so jealous. I want to live in Montana lol
it's a nice place in a lot of ways haha
As does everyone else now
I've actually lived in MT my entire life lol
Montana seems scary... but you only hear about those militia groups when you hear of Montana
yes we do have our fair share of crazies out there
not to mention grizzly bears, mountain lions, rattlesnakes, etc
I think every state does lol
true haha
hell California has most of that
cough taxes cough
we are planning on moving back to California in a few years, trying to find a good balance of nature availability and friendliness for dogs for Mountain lions/rattlesnakes
I would not mind living in California someday. I visited the Bay Area a few years ago and liked a lot of things about it
but yes as @tawdry dove said, lots of people there
it really depends where, I like to be near a larger metro area, was in Denver for a few years and it felt so tiny but the rockies are amazing
Denver/Colorado in general is another place I've thought about going
city we live in now has 300k people... city we are looking at moving to in California has 100k people but its an hourish drive to 3 major metro areas
nice, that sounds like a nice balance
I lived in a town with 9k people. The town my university was in had 3.5k, 2k of which were students lol
And now i live in the DMV area. Big change
kind of nervous about it but next time we can visit... we are going to check out the hiking, from alltrails, it sounds good, good for dogs, nice wide paths where you can spot rattlesnakes easily
we had been targeting another area but this area is cheaper... by like 200k/house
i visited the bay area, no way I would live there without making 200k a year
and lots of community services
I'm in a town of ~75k, grew up in a town of 30k
yeah it is crazy... I'd want at least 500k/yr for each my spouse and I
i had some extended family who lived in a suburb of the bay area with a 3 million dollar house - totally normal looking house you'd probably pay 50k for in Texas, its all about location out there
my husband and I love the bay area, we went there for an anniversary trip, but we got caught in traffic on the way back to the airport (to the airport was smooth and we were in an uber)... it was so many people
haight-ashbury is awesome if you're a history buff too π
and I used to go to a conference every year in San Francisco... one year I totally stayed in a haunted hotel
then next time I was like, nope, I'm booking earlier to stay in the Marriott next time
yeah uh san fransisco is like literally built on top of a graveyard if you consider the earthquake back in the 1900s lol
China town is my favorite place in San Francisco
so much good food and just so many amazing shops
one of the things I liked most about SF was all the different modes of public transportation. but I am a nerd for that lol
and the markets were so good
thats the cool thing about Chinatowns is they are almost identical across big cities, granted I've only seen 3 but they're always a blast
DC Chinatown is small but also has good food, and got an amazing foot massage in NY Chinatown
pls tell me you got down to the harbor in SF and got some sourdough bread bowls with bisque
we got sourdough bread but... no bisque
actually flying to SoCal one year, our plane got diverted to SF, I bee lined for the bakery in the airport and got some sourdough bread
yeah that stuff is just insanely good, that along with the place where they made the first Irish Coffee (i think?) were the highlights of my trip there
ah buena vista that's it
we went up to Mendocino, its not exactly a short drive, but so amazing... loved the redwoods
my current work doesn't travel as much and if it is, its most likely florida
Not sure I want to live in the bay area tbh
What surprised me when I go to other states is tbe price of common food in the North East
There are some nice hikes in the Berkeley area though
It's not the same low price lol
Moving from SoCal where I grew up all my life and shopping for food other places... was a shock
welp if there's one thing I've taken for granted far too long it's travelling - saving everything I can for cons (if) as soon as they come back
like I don't think I bought fruit the entire first year I moved away from SoCal and buying avocados hurts my heart
Like lobster and other general seafood was the biggest shock
oh my god the fruit in SoCal, ill never forget these strawberries I had there once
you go drive to the stands... you get like 20 avocados for $5... huge bag of oranges for $3
Yeah that is a plus for Cali and Florida. The fruit
Once I get my own land though you can bet I'm going to have a green house
but all around food is cheaper in SoCal than anywhere else I've lived since
Paris is horrible for food prices
for sure, one of the benefits of having a huge agrarian economy
Berlin is amazing for food prices
interesting I would definitely not have guessed that
oh wow cost of living there is actually really good - thats a city I really really want to visit
Yeah i have been to Germany twice and stayed in Berlin both times. It's a really affordable city and rather friendly. It's like the California of Germany
Like you can drink walking down the street
I was supposed to go to Peru last May but COVID nixed that
im in love with the subcultures there in particular and the art scene in general
In Peru or Berlin?
Berlin - Peru is cool as hell too though
I've only been in the Peru airport ha
Oh yeah Berlin definitely has its own style
and I've been to Munich and surrounding areas but not other places
Denver is my favorite airport π had some pretty decent BBQ there
I've done Berlin, Poland, Czech Republic, Italy, Norway, Finland, Canada, a bit of the States
I dunno if I have a favorite, I do like SF especially for that crazy landing strip... water water water... land
Feel like I'm forgetting something
and Frankfurt airport is huge and amazing, we had some good noodle soup there... and I had an amazing shower in Seoul after a direct flight from the east coast
also had noodle soup at the Seoul airport π
Berlin is definitely a good home base though for Europe. It's cheaper than a lot of other European cities and has easy access to all major forms of transportation
I generally just like going one place and exploring, although depends
Yeah I'm speaking from having a place to live in Europe and then extending out to explore
ahh yeah that isn't my goal π
Also Germany has free tuition for anyone who wants it as well
for now I definitely have it in my head to travel US exclusively and hit up a bunch of hiking spots alone
Or did. Not sure if that program exists anymore. If it doesn't then it was short lived
New Mexico is one of my favorite places in the US, specifically Albuquerque
Yeah the US is truly an oddity and we are spoiled that we have this much land to travel freely
I'd consider moving there but with aging parents... you either choose one parent location or another
its also a bit small for a city but so beautiful
oddly enough I've been hearing a ton of people talk about albuquerque as an up and coming place to live
almost nothing beats that south-western charm
Yeah i love that people discover new places that they love but it's also a vicious cycle. Tucson is great
Great hearing such positive things about San Fran, NM and Berlin. Places definitely on my list in the (hopefully) near future
what are some other underrated places people would recommend? in the US or elsewhere.
I had great fun in Chicago a few years back
In all seriousness, there was a really cool documentary about people living on bases in Antarctica that I recently watched.
Here's my list off the top of my head:
Antarctica
Japan
Australia
Peru
Tanzania
That covers my continents I believe
Antarctica you can get to through a few avenues. Some more expensive than others
I've heard in a lot of cases you need a letter of permission from your government or the origin government of whoever is bringing you
It depends. You can get there through working on Antarctica, you can take a cruise there, or you can sail there yourself
Each base has its own rules because they are owned by different countries. I do know from some of the videos that I watch that one group called the Australian Environmental Agency
If you're sailing from the base of Argentina you do need a letter from them saying they approve of you leaving their port
You'd have to make sure of the legal requirements for that jurisdiction. There's all kinds of international regulations on approaching or landing on Antarctica. Prosecution would not be a pleasant experience but going through the motions and getting there would be worth almost anything
Oh no doubt. You'd have to make it to Antarctica first though. You have the Roaring 40s, Furious 50s, and Screaming 60s to go through lol
We went to Antarctica (that is how we were at the airport in Peru)
one of my favorite places is South Lake Tahoe, would highly recommend
Lol how was it Zojj? Larger cruise or a smaller one? Or none at all?
it was a smaller cruise, think 300 people max? so good size but not too big that we couldn't' touch land
the big cruises just pass on by without stopping
I forget our number total, think it was 250 and that included the crew
Nice
ooo travel talk
Before all the lockdowns, I used to go on trips ever so often. My favourite memories/places is making friends in Spain and then visiting them in Australia/NZ
I also would like to make it to Spain
when we went to Italy, I had actually started planning out a trip to Spain and then I was like screw it, let's go to Italy (as it had been on my bucketlist a long, long time and I just kind of ignored it)
Snow Petrel Down Under is a documentary about the unique journey of brothers Matt and Ben and their father John as they set sail from Tasmania, Australia in Ben's 34ft Yacht Snow Petrel.
Their destination is Commonwealth Bay, Antarctica, the windiest place on Earth and and home to Explorer and Scientist Sir Douglas Mawson during his 1911 expedit...
Yeah I've been to Spain loads but always wanted to see Italy. One day π
you can take some of the science boats to Antarctica but they are really bare bones
Really interesting watch if it's the series I remember
we actually kind of won the trip to Antarctica... kind of
it was at like a super discount through American Express
When I was in Berlin we were planning on going to Africa during our break. However, civil unrest broke out and we decided that it would not be a smart idea lol
AmEx used to do it all the time, where they would have these events where it was something like 'win a super discounted price' and it was us and another couple that 'won'
Nice
π
Yeah I'm thinking of climbing Kilimanjaro in two years
Gonna start taking Japanese lessons again
Gonna start talking about burp
nice... I saw a women's only trip that looked interesting for kilimanjaro but I have a huge bucket list already
Yeah i found the group that Nat Geo uses when they go to Tanzania
Honestly, not as expensive as I thought it would be
I have a hugeto be read pile but I'm still adding to it π
I've been eyeing some of the Nat Geo trips
Some of those Nat Geo trips are insanely expensive
but I like to do it on my own, when we went to Italy, we did half on our own, half with GAP
which is called something else now
Gotta start saving for travel for the rest of this year. I'll be in college til Christmas anyway
But this convo has definitely given me encouragement
Yeah you can definitely make travel happen. All the places I listed as having gone to I went when I was in college
Must go visit family in Paris at some point
With my own money i should add. I'm not a trust fund kid lol
First thing I did when I graduated college was saved up for an international trip and went
Yeah i would be taking more trips if I actually had PTO π©
It's possible to travel on a small budget, even nowadays but some of the things I wanna do are gonna be pricey
(well obviously not right now!)
You can definitely do it on a small budget lol. The busses in Europe are pretty cheap
I went to the Czech Republic and parts of Southern Germany for $40 USD
Round trip
I once travelled from Leon to Evian for my friend's wedding. Was in a Chateau and I must have drank two bottles of Champagne before the reception π
The next night I got a bargain stay in a luxury hotel in a converted Chateau on the other side of Lake Geneva overlooking Mont Blanc and a 7 course meal all for ~β¬200... And the bed was as big as two king-sized together... Definitely not typical accommodation for me
thats amazing for Switzerland but I'd hardly call it bargain traveling ha
I remember paying 240 CHF for a pretty basic cabin accommodation in Switzerland.
Haha I found a bargain offer and just had to do it. My gf at the time and I were saving for a house, it wasn't going to be an opportunity again for a long time
yeah I paid over $200 for 1 night in Zurich, it was a super tiny hotel room
but I was employed at the time and again budgeted for it π
The Chateau itself was about 10km outside Geneva and literally a stone's throw from the border with Switzerland at the junction of the road
10 $ in Bosnia for 1 night
I had 9$ in China once..
I don't think that price was too much for me either, and I'd sure pay it again. It was in Interlaken after all. And that area is just ... out of this world π
Still we could see the Jed D'Eau from our windows
which... various parts of Asia can be amazing for bargain hunters
well I'm just saying there is bargain traveling and not... over $200 / night even with meal just isn't what I'd consider bargain travel even if its a bargain π
good deal isn't necessarily a bargain π
Well $200 was definitely pricey but the kind of people who typically stayed at that hotel were the kind of people who typically wouldn't be worried about spending a few thousand on a night in a hotel. I would not be exaggerating if I told you several cars could have fit in the room with the doors open if the bed was removed
The worst price I've had has been in Boston at one time. One of the nights was around $700.
The total was $2000 for less than a week. Luckily I didn't pay for that myself.
Boston I can imagine being somewhat expensive in town considering it's a high profile place for business, government and academic activity
Yep. Even the surroundings were ridiculously expensive at the time. There were three big conferences in the city at the time, and I was booking the trip on a week's notice.
Ouch! That's gotta bite. And Boston has plenty of those going on
For reasons the company wanted me to fly for 20 hours and get there, so they thought it was worth it, I guess π
Well some expenses can't be spared
I want to go to that mountain town in Switzerland
Oh Switzerland has plenty of spots around the Alps
I'd probably have gone to Austria or Switzerland in the summer, if it wasn't for the pandemic. Last summer we got to visit Norway, so didn't have to stay home all the time.
I'd have to find the exact name lol but I was taken by it in photos
Never made it over to Switzerland though when I was last in Europe
Norway is one of my favorite places
Don't be a numpty though and remember when the last day of the sun is
I'd love to see Norway and Sweden. Friend of mine is a Supercomputer engineer in Stockholm
I haven't been to Sweden for ages - if you don't count the border towns near Finland π Used to go there quite often earlier. And nowadays it seems that Stockholm is too close for spending your vacation in.
When I went we spent the Evening in Oslo and then flew to Alta the next morning
Turned out the day we landed in Alta was the last day of sun for the year lol.
Ooh, Alattio (Alta). If the situation gets better, I might drive there next summer.
Finland would be fun. There's only one country between Finland and North Korea
Lol @ @tawdry dove
Just don't expect the dramatic scenery of Norway here. It's fun and pretty, but different.
I don't know if I've ever stayed in an ultra pricey hotel... For work, stayed in various places in SF (which is around $400/night), Las vegas stayed at various hotels for conference (again about $400/night), Boston when stayed for conference was probably around the same. Personally only reason to spend $$ on hotel is location, I'd be happy in most any place as long as it isn't a shared bathroom accomodation
I'd still love to go. All the people I know there are computer folks
There are others. At least the ones supporting the computer folks π
We called Northern Finland "the wastes". It was Grey, snow was getting blown up everywhere, and it was just endless barren land
It was amazing though lol
It's amazing for trekking in the summer. If you can handle the mosquitoes.
We drove down to Rovaniemi from Alta and got to go to this amazing restaurant
Believe it was called Nili
Sounds about right. It's in the city (if you can really call Rovaniemi a city π ) centre
Yeah we went down for Santa land just to see what it was like though lol. Kind of disappointing but the restaurant and the random shop we stopped at in the middle of nowhere with a grandmother and her granddaughter made it worth it
I wonder how many Santas there are around Rovaniemi.
Got to buy a kuksa
And we all know that Santa isn't really living in Rovaniemi, but in the restricted border zone on Korvatunturi fjell.
They say it's a lovely hike to that fjell. You can get a permission to one of the peaks from the border control if you meet some requirements.
I hope you prepared it properly for use!
I had never heard that before and have just looked it up on Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korvatunturi
Korvatunturi is a fell in Lapland, on the border between Finland and Russia. Its Finnish part is within Urho Kekkonen National Park in the municipality of Savukoski. In Finnish the name Korvatunturi means "Ear Fell", referring to the mountain's distinctive profile.
Korvatunturi is covered by a thick pine forest, and surrounded by frozen lakes, a...
@rapid summit with alcohol?
That's the traditional way.
I think i did. I may have just put coffee in it
I can't remember
I haven't used it in a while so I'll get some more alcohol to clean it
IMHO they're pretty impractical for real use π
For home use yes. I think its useful for traveling in some ways
You need something to drink from, and the feeling of using one is nice. But it's still impractical π
@scarlet moth i forgot to ask earlier. Why Columbia? It sounds like a cool place, minus the cartels
First video I watch on Columbia the guy gets stopped by police and strip searched. Oof
I would like to visit cartegena, its a colonial city which is known for tourism
I mean there are safer parts these days, I just wouldn't travel by road if you are traveling between cities
Even former home of Escobar is a pretty decent travel destination these days
but its amazingly beautiful https://www.departures.com/travel/photo-tour-cartagena-colombia
Yeah the guy was strip searched in Cartegena. I definitely have to be careful where I go because I stick out like a sore thumb.
i hear the biggest danger in columbian tourism these days are the hippo colonies in the waterways
I want to do some Munro's once lockdown is lifted for good here. Maybe go to the cuillian
Amen to that
Aloha
Dough day. Pizza done, rye and spelt+wheat bread dough prepared.
oh shoot still haven't tried to make sourdough but I do have rye flour
Sounds good
caps lock will be the death of me...
I have a more standard pizza dough proofing now
At least the pizza was good. Let's see what I'll make of the breads
last bread I tried making was a bit too dry
don't cook it too much and a little oil helps
dry on the crust or inside?
Let's try and bake those rye breads.
I'm making my own pizza next week
I've enough dough left for tomorrow.
I think i finally have all the basic kitchen tools to make one. Moving out of your parents place is rough. So many little things
It's surprising how many bowls one might need π
Yeah and pots and pans. Or a stove that actually makes sense π
I had too little water in my mix I think
let's see...at least 5.
or at the very least, one more than you already have
dry on the inside, but I was at 3:5 water:flour, might need to be to 7:10
but then it gets really sticky
the crust was great though
throw a bit of water in the bottom of the oven while it's hot to make some vapour, which helps get a good crust
Anyone that has a Homelab, hosting anything interesting?
What are you running?
Heimdall, Plex, docker, pfsense for a Cyber range, sonarr, a wiki, and a few other things that I am forgetting because the lab is down right now
Oh almost forgot pihole
remotely is pretty cool
If i get another pi im going to do a honeypot but right now I don't trust myself to properly secure the one R710 I have
I could do it but it's just i would find some way to possibly mess it up
Yeah i was just scrolling through @main sparrow
endlessh
Interesting
Hopefully I'll get more storage soon. I like archiving but just don't have the space
Probably going to buy 36TBs of drives soon
Seems like a lot but it will probably go quickly. I'm getting to the point where I am taking about a terabyte of photos a year and my steam library isn't getting any smaller lol
that sounds like a lot of photos
It is. But each photo is 40MB minimum
So whatever that come our to like 50 a day? Seems about right
@rapid summit Try placing a baking sheet or oven safe pot with water in the oven alongside the bread to give it more moisture.
if i shouted here, what will happen?
It was Hydra that had problems with dry bread π My rye one was a bit underbaked, but ok nevertheless.
Yeah I did that, but it was because the dough was too dry
How do you edit the code of a .png?
Would you like to provide context?
Context?
Like, let's say you assumed there was a virus in a photo, how would you be able to find out?
I mean
It's not exactly like writing code
I don't think you can just right click, press edit and start writing malware
If your images had a malicious payload in them, your antivirus should hopefully pick them up. I do not think malicious .png files are popular so you would most likely not find any malicious code in one but if you had a sneaking suspicion, I guess you could open the file in a hex editor and see?
This is a screenshot I found on the internet
Thanks.
The example above is a PDF, but holds for any datatype: such malware or virus is usually passed on active datatypes (Word/Excel with macros), which then is executed. The one you mentioned is in passive datatypes (PDFs, images, videos), here the attack vector usually is finding a bug in the parser (e.g. photo viewer software) and exploiting it with e.g. a payload in the metadata (EXIF, etc.). Both can be found by inspecting the binary of the data (e.g. with hex editors) or specific editors (e.g. GIMP for pictures, Excel for VB macros)
https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2020/06/12/facebook-paid-for-a-0-day-to-help-fbi-unmask-child-predator/ - Kinda ewwww example, but there have been 0days in video software to deanonymise people
Am I happy that this monster was caught? Yes. Am I happy at the precident this sets? No.
I'll expand later. At work now
Also contrary to popular belief, most of you probably know, Tor can be beaten
Yeah there are some good talks on it
Yeah lol. I was giving a presentation to freshman on how to keep yourself safe online and half were like "are you a criminal" and the other were like "I thought Tor was secure"
wait tor aint secure?
Tor is an anonymisation network which allows users to browse the internet without their true IP
address being identified. Tor also allows those in countries who censor the internet to bypass that
censorship both by allowing users to access censored sites and to host websites which would
otherwise land them in jail if it were possible to trace th...
Oh cool video, Checks length Nahh, my bathroom visits don't last that long.
@radiant jacinth idk if that was sarcasm but yeah tor isn't inherently secure. You still need to take a few extra steps and even then there are some faults in how tor works that can be exploited
nope it wasnt i was for real im a newbie @tawdry dove
Ah, no worries. I'm not sure what was in that video but one way that comes to mind is to DDOS the exit nodes until you're one of or the only one left
Or if you have money, just have 50%+ of the exit nodes under you control. But I think there are other things exploitable (think using Signal but with the Google keyboard... the e2ee does give you naught, because everything you type is sent instantly for Google to put into their ML stuff)
Braves TOR tab feature was found to have a big flaw in it a wee while ago
Like last week or smth
it leaks all the onion addresses you visit to your DNS provider
I just confirmed that yes, @brave browser's Tor mode appears to leak all the .onion addresses you visit to your DNS provider
https://t.co/IMV97jWhZf

2834
That was way worse then I remembered
I know it's not a solution for the above problem, but it would be time to start to use quad9 (9.9.9.9 / 149.112.112.112) whenever people are longing for privacy π Of course together with a self-hosted pi-hole
heh.. there's many ways to diminish your level of attributions. but using brave isn't one
Haven't used brave yet, but it doesn't seem as secure now
well.. security and attribution are not necessarily equivalents
I have a Google phone so I'm screwed lol
And your concerns about attribution should be directly related to what you are doing / engaging with
How are we defining attribution in this sense? Associating acts with someone?
Associating your actions online with you.
Gotcha
Personally I feel like this is close to if not the same as the "if you aren't doing anything wrong, you have nothing to hide" argument
I am fine with limited privacy for myself as I accepted that when I started my job, it was my choice.
that can be a fallacy. For instance, I just took part in Trace Labs search party CTF, and we were looking for missing persons, and in doing that it may be necessary to hide your attribution to prevent shady characters (let's imagine the case of a kidnapping) from figuring out who you are and possibly attacking you in retribution if they find out who you are.
The same could be said if you were doing OSINT data collection on criminal operations.
Sorry I got distracted. What I was going to say to finish that was I don't think my case should be the default where people have to fight for their privacy
those are two distinct cases where attribution matters and you've done "Nothing wrong"
I think i may have misunderstood your original message
which is what I meant by attribution being connected to what you're doing. For example, if you're going to want some good degree of attribution on your positive actions, that's how ppl get jobs π
I read it as "you shouldn't have to worry about attribution if you aren't doing anything wrong/illegal/embarrassing"
I'm in a loop now lol
Well, naturally criminals will try to have low attribution... if they are smart.. but there's more to it than that as you can see now π
it's a very interesting topic
and a hard ballance to manage
Agreed
I'm a very "leave me alone" type of person
And i also believe we were arguing the same point in that keeping attribution low is important? Am I understanding that correctly? Or am I still off base?
My brain is slow today for some reason
Semi the same point.
I'm saying it depends on 1- what you're comfortable with, 2- what your objectives are, 3 - what is your risk in exposing attribution.
but my original point was that low attribution does not necessarily equate to security.
I understand now lol
I think all of those are valid points and need to be a part of a much larger conversation
What do you do for work if you don't mind me asking?
this may shock you, but I'm a farmer π
to be honest though. I'm working hard to land an infosec job
Farm will still be on the list though π
we can see that hard work
What do you farm? Livestock? Produce?
sustainable horticulture, and I have a bit of an orchard growing. Still extremely young on that department though
direct-to-consumer, locally produced, small scale
I can do a lot, but YouTube not my thing. I think I'd burn out in a couple of days
π’
That's like my fantasy. A farm that mixes cool cyber stuff into their work flow and gives low level explanations on how everything works
That sound so COOOOOOOOOL
Like you have a few YouTube channels that have done one or two videos. The ones that come to mind are Chili Chump, Great Scott!, and the videos on Garduino
Problem with the farm is that if I get too deep on small cyber projects for it, nothing gets done and I lose 3 months of crops...
TheRealMartian also had some cools stuff going on but then their shelter got crushed
though I was planning to do a small weather station and use it to optimize irrigation
I'll come on as an assistant omega π
but there's something hard when it comes to doing C&C automation via long distance and keep costs low
What about LoRa?
well that adds another layer of complexity to it, and I'd have to check my local legislation about it.
but it'd probably be the way to go eventually
Not sure here.. we have some archaic laws
Europe, Portugal
Ah
For downlink (for 869.525MHz), the maximum transmission power is limited to 0.5W (27 dBm)
There is an 0.1% and 1.0% duty cycle per day depending on the channel.
Maximum allowed antenna gain +2.15 dBi
This is from LoRa's website for Europe
And then there's another big thing after you work a while on the fields.. you tend not to mess too much with something that works
Looks like y'all have some regulations
ya we do
If it ain't broke don't fix it is a great rule to live by
First I'd probably setup some monitoring stations and "gadgets" and make sure that works before i'd mess with irrigation in any way
to avoid losing crops while debugging....
No doubt
reminds me somehow of this:
Anyways.. it's not my thing much π
Yeah there is definitely a lot of variables, like shoddy moisture sensors
So..... Sorry Australia but Facebook just made you its female dog
Not that i agreed with the news tax
And I don't even get it why they backed down. I mean... the government doesn't have anything to lose in this game... people will adjust unbelievingly fast to a world w/o FB. It's not that they have to protect the status quo or the news groups could make it even worse...
Yeah the government backing down was the worst thing they could have possibly done
Now Facebook knows for a fact they can push the envelope and get away with it
Vegan cookies with actual vegan white choc this time π and recipe used from https://tasty.co/recipe/vegan-chocolate-chip-cookies
This is still the food room right?!
Yep but no one has really posted in here about food for a long time
Yh I just did a quick scroll! Oh well people are super busy I guess
Oooo these look yum! Mine dint go flat like that because I used 50g of coconut flour so they just went 'half flat'?!
I'd have thought it was more to do with the fats? I'm not a food scientist
You might be right
I used sun flower oil in my last batch I made a while back. So maybe the olive oil isn't that good for cookies
Cookies rise for a couple of reasons. Too much flour is one
Or you could have introduced too much air to your butter (or substitute) and sugar mix
I'll try the same ingredients again to see if that is the case! I think it is the coconut flour personally because I added more of it to another batch and they didn't go flat at all π
Idk what you're using for an egg substitute but too much of that can cause puffing as well
I used olive oil as per the recipe in that link
1/2 cup of olive oil
Anyway will try it again when I can and see. Goodnight!
π π stonks go brrrrrrrrrr
time to buy up
I did. I bought $300 in stonks and a small portion of crypto
I bought 3M and then some ETFs
Yeah 3M, Coca-Cola, SPGM, and then Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Etherium
I don't do crypto myself
It's only 1% of my portfolio
I'm mad salty about crypto though I almost bought $100 of Bitcoin when it was $5 and then talked myself out of buying ethereum when it was super low
its ok, I sold Netflix when it was like at $100
I remember when Netflix was mailing people discs lol
that wasn't all that long ago
I was probably in elementary when they were doing it
I had bought stock as soon as I had money in buy.com (former amazon competitor) and Netflix (when it was like $4)
I'm 23 now
they stopped mailing discs like 5 years ago
I meant like the cold mailing discs
Yeah this was like pre 2010 maybe
They would cold mail you discs to try and get you to use the service if I remember correctly
I don't remember that but only started using netflix around 2005
I thought it was a thing. Maybe not lol
But yeah I've had a lot of missed opportunities. Most recently the GME train. Didn't buy it at $15 because I thought it was too expensive lol
nah I'm a long hauler, I'm not gonna play games with stocks
I agree. My portfolio is being built for the long haul but I leave no more than 5% semi liquid to mess around with
I aint worried about things like GME or what not, just put money in smartly, it'll return at a good rate, rinse and repeat
at&t with the $2/yr payout tho
That adds up
It's actually on my list to buy next
Walmart, Pfizer, Johnson&Johnson, AT&T, and Blackstone Group are my next purchases
If they hold or go lower between now and the 7th
Then it's Altria, Apple, Cisco, CAT (construction and mining company), Lockheed Martin, Avery Denison, and lastly WP Carey
Hoping these come down
AT&Ts done a good job retaining value between 27-30
Yeah. I'm not sure if they have had the same success as 3M with their stock but it's definitely a good one to have
5 years and I'll have paid off my student loans and car. Then I can buy all the stonks π
We actually have a ton of at&t stock as thatβs what my In-laws give for gifts
I have some Disney from forever ago because that's what all newborns get apparently
I get $2 every couple of months from them
new coffee for the week, really good!
Major Dickasons was pretty enjoyable
Even going through a keurig
New England Coffee Blueberry and also vanilla aren't bad if you want something flavored
I've gotta brag a bit here, got into my first interviews for a infosec job! It's for cyber security role, with focus on AWS, Application security and testing. Exited and horrified at the same time.
thats amazing!!!!
Stonks go brrrrr again. Huge gain with tesla and VTI
And for some reason GME just jumped 100%
Noice. I closed out some of my Twitter at $71 today, bought at $48 in Jan. Gonna look to close out some more of my portfolio this week because this bullrun is giving me the spooks
Timing is the critical aspect of trading, and timing is haaaard
It does - i've got some long term positions i'll keep but i'm gonna close out the rest and enjoy me profs.
Market bounces back long term, but individual securities do not necessarily bounce back
So, stay diversified
My main concern is all the new money pivoting back to bonds and sinking my ship haha
I'm 10% bonds right now
I'm 10% Bonds, 5% Crypto, and then the rest are individual stonks or ETFs
My managed portfolio is 68% stocks, 32% bonds, then I've got about 20% of the value of that portfolio in a brokerage account I manage myself that's all stocks
but split across industries with REITs, energy, tech, and financial sectors represented
Yeah i said what I've bought and what's on my buy list last night
It's diverse and I get payed every week of the year with them
Dividend stocks are the best
I'm working up a covered call strategy for my long-term-flatter-than-a-pancake divs to squeeze some extra income out of them too
Yeah they are nice but it's kind of lame that I need to invest 400k in order to get 1k a month
there are better divs out there for sure - mine average around 8-10% usually
APY of course, so that's far less per month, but still not an inconsiderable rate
Yeah that was a just a quick Google of the average amount 1k took
10 more years of investing lol
Tendies not profs
I'm an idiot
once I have a decent options strategy figured out, I'll post about that, just gotta run some numbers to see just how far OTM would be the best balance
I can't math. It would be 100 years before I get to 400k
uhhhh what?
400/month Γ 12=4800
4800 Γ 10 β 400000
50k compounded daily at 5% interest hits 400k in less than 42 years
Yeah i was doing raw input
oh yeah that'll always take forever, gotta factor in compounding
Once I pay off my car and student loans in 5 years I'll have 800 more dollars a month to invest
yeah, that's huge
Now all I need is someone to grow old with lol
Pandemic and my anti-social behavior don't help with that though
best recommendation I've got there is to not get caught up looking too hard - a "I'll find them when I find them" attitude seems to leave people open for more "good" opportunities than trying to chase down everyone and missing
I've never chased anyone down. My attitude is exactly that, it will happen when it happens. However, never having a SO at any point in my life kinda is the kick in the shins
Mind if I ask what age range you're in?
23
These feelings were definitely amplified when I moved out last year though. All my family and friends are in New England but I moved down to the DMV for work
Oh nice - I'm from central VA originally. Also, super feel that life. I moved down to GA not knowing anyone after college, about the same age you moved. Ended up working out very well, plus DMV can be a fun area. If you're into games and music, Magfest in National Harbor is worth checking out when we're in a post-pandemic world again.
Yeah i have no doubt it will work out. I just need to actually get outside, when the weather is not crap, and also get back into a group hobby again
Might go visit the local rugby club and see what's up
oh nice!
I just did a dumb. I purchased Doge
Knowing my luck it will drop to $0.04 or something
lol I have a friend who has been posting the "BUY BITCOIN IT'S FREE MONEY" for the past few weeks
he's been eerily quiet the past couple days
I just bought Bitcoin the other day along with ethereum and Litecoin. Small amount but it's still made me money
I'm done with cryptocurrencies for a bit, moving onto NFTs
lol I just can't with NFTs. Digital trading cards, basically
My biggest problem with investing (or anything actually) is that I'm so lazy... With some colleagues we did a gig 10 years ago or so, built a mining rig for some thousands (everybody chipped in with like 300-400), and mined Doge, converted to Bitcoin. I've had like 0.74 or something like this Bitcoins, and it was worth around what I "invested". I wanted to wait, but was lazy, so kept in on an exchange instead of setting up a local wallet. Yeah... well... the exchange was Cryptsy: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Cryptsy
Can someone give some advice im taking my gcse's next summer and want to do something to do with cyber security does anyone if an apretership is a good route??
yes i like apprenticieships
Cybersecurity Technologist is a good one from QA, it has some really good teachers. There are also degree ones available with various universities such as Northumbria and Royal Holloway π
I had some money with QuadrigaCX when that blew up, allegedly after the founder faked his own death. If nothing else it at least gave me entertaining emails from the auditors.
On instruction from the Official Committee, Representative Counsel issued a letter to the RCMP, on behalf of Affected Users, requesting the RCMP to exhume the body of Gerald Cotten to confirm his identity.
are there any websites for creating nice looking mock output for a website?
kinda like what carbon.now.sh does for commands, but for websites (including the url bar)
just being quite
Hi all, what are the security risks of a USB dongle that contains a license key for a software? How could it be used to penetrate a network via getting plugged in to a computer that is connected to a LAN?
Also separate question- If the internet is itself a network, why hasn't a virus ever spread from one computer throughout an entire Internet Service Provider's customer base? Do ISPs have more sophisticated virus scanning/cybersecurity measures in place that prevent that?
It kinda has, but remember that all the networks are different
Look at mirai
Hmm interesting! Is Mirai the most notorious network virus that has occurred? Do you remember coming across any info on how the ISPs handled it / cleaned up?
Also I don't quite understand what you mean when you say that all the networks are different. I know that a LAN is a network, but if the LAN also has internet access that makes it part of the ISP's network too right? So wouldn't it be vulnerable to anything going on with the ISP's network just by sheer connection to it?
Mirai was embedded devices
it part of the ISP's network too right? I don't think that distinction matters
The malware usually doesn't care who owns the network
It's just gonna attack the internet
Anything it can touch
Right so why hasn't a virus spread to the inflection point of taking down the whole internet?
because you can't take the whole internet down
But mirai took down DNS, which was an impact
But you realise the malware has to exploit some vulnerability, right?
You're not going to get the same vulnerability on everything. So it can't spread everywhere.
This assumes there isn't a shared vulnerability amongst all internet browsers?
Mirai exploited default credentials, it had a HUGE list of like 50 different pairs.
Tangentially related: I still think Stuxnet should be something, which would be worthwhile to study even during a whole semester as free credit or such. It's such an intricate artwork, it's incredible.
Aint likely to happen
Ahh gotcha
That's the only variable that would have to be needed right -- the same vulnerability across all?
But remember
The internet isn't client devices
The internet is the network infra and servers and everything
You bring that up to say that client devices would try to detect/block it?
You wouldn't need the same vuln on everything, you'd just need to target vulns in lots of things
No.
I bring that up because "taking down the internet" would require taking down that infra.
The client devices, no one cares. That's not the internet.
What do you mean by vulns in lots of things?
Ah gotcha
Like, say, find a vuln that affects half the routers in the world
And I don't mean your home routers
I mean the routers that make up the internet
Do you know the answer to the first q or could you suggest which channel I should post it in?
What are some of y'all's favorite off the shelf apps for lite testing or study? Trying to find a way to keep my practice up when I only have my phone.
It'd probably need to be something fake for it to be harmful.
what part of CTF should I revist to upgrade my hacking skills
What are you struggling most with? Focus there.
π© the hits just keep on coming
My doggo was just diagnosed with terminal lung cancer
I haven't cried in years and I just cried the entire 50 minute commute home
Awe man that really sucks and I'm sorry to hear that.
Awe. So sorry. It will get better. It's ok, better to let it all out and enjoy any time you have left
Yeah i head home home tomorrow. I moved out in September
Enjoy all the time with her β€οΈ
give her the biggest hugs from me π
I'm afraid I'll kill her when I arrive tomorrow
She gets super excited whenever I come home and I guess she's been having trouble breathing
If anything, though, that's an indication of what a wonderful life full of love and joy you've provided her. It's really hard that pets lives are so short. Really, really hard. So the best we can do is to fill their lives with all the happiness we can give them, and it sounds like you've done exactly that.
Yeah i got her when I was in the 6th grade. I feel really bad for my sisters dog though. He's 1.5 and going to be losing her
I think it'll be nice if all tryhackme walkthrough videos are placed in the tryhackme YouTube channel, it literally useless.
Thanks for your input, @tall frost. Many of the walkthrough videos have been made by members of the community, and would generally be hosted on their own channels - This means that if you like the style of the creator, You can stick to what you know. This also rings true for walkthroughs in different languages. Some rooms may even have multiple walkthrough videos from different creators, and hosting them all on the THM channel would get messy fast - Different people have different ways of presenting the material etc. That being said, there are a few creators who are known to make quality content which included THM content - Darksec and John Hammond are 2 examples
All you need on a winter day
hello everyone
we used to have snow then pollution happened
I used to get snow then I moved south. I miss snow.
I miss snow too
Itβs an exceptionally snowy winter over here. We had something like 80cm another day, now itβs down to only 60 or so - and thatβs still more than any winter in ten years.
texas gets snow -- thank goodness all those silly red repubs ignore global warming.
Let's try to avoid politics here please
#talk-with-us-no-threading please @pine trellis
Big rip to anyone who deployed Google Workspace
It's getting capped at 100TB for the entire org
GSuite, oof
I mean idk how people didn't see this coming
I'm sure if you're a big enough org to need more than 100tb then you're big enough to talk to Google about it?
Yeah it'll mainly hit universities I think
Azure will probably see quite a few new customers
Idk of AWS has a competitor
Where do you see the 100TB limit for enterprise? I'm not seeing anything on their pricing page anywhere close to that
GΒ Suite for Education is now Google Workspace for Education. Learn more
We recently announced a new storage model, which provides schools and universities with a baseline of 100Β TB of poole
Looks like it's edu only
So before this everything was pretty much free for EDU
Also insightful reddit comment. "Google isn't a technology company, they are an advertisement agency with the best technology in the world"
pretty much
@autumn trout please i have never said anything to you please dont get my thm banned thats all i have to do in lockdown atm
Hey @radiant jacinth
Could you read the rules please, specifically rule 2 π
More winter photos...
looks melty
Yep. +5 degrees. Luckily thatβs not by a walkway
Did that gutter break its mount?
how is it still holding
Itβs icy, pretty dense and elastic. Thereβs still a few meters of that on the roof, keeping the center of mass on the roof.
Or was, before i used a pointy stick on it
Why is there pink
I looked at the video, they had pink marshmallows in it, which is where the odd color comes from. If you used normal white marshmallows, they would look "normal". Not a fan of nuttela, but still looks fun to make
Yeah I'm not a marshmallow person
you could do same recipe minus the marshmallow
I know. I was just saying I'm not a fan of marshmallows
But cookies & cream, I'd be up for those
yes to cookies to cream, no to marshmallows
side note: I love how probably 75% of the time that I look at 'quiet-conversation' it is talk about food
of course
Reminds, this was Saturday dinner
The rest is me and snow? π
And even your pic is a pizza, so it really brings it full circle π
Marshmallows be nastaaaay
What's the feeling here about extended lockdowns? Are you guys mostly remote anyway and cannot be bothered or maybe missing in-person cyber sec conventions?
miss the cons
remote's great though, means I can do thm content without anyone noticing
As a junior new hire its kind of brutal. I'm trying to break college habits and learn the ropes of a new position and remote while nice, isn't great for that. My mental headspace is probably the worst it's been as rolling out of bed immediately into work is pretty depressing. Not being able to separate work and home is rough
I will say I go in two days a week for lab work and it's pretty refreshing
we just had a housemate move out because she'd started associating her room with work too much and it was just pumping her anxiety non-stop. a lot of friends have started jobs in the same conditions @tawdry dove and it sounds really tough, my sympathies.
we're in victoria so the lockdown was pretty unrelenting. sort of coming out of it now but there's still a lot of WFH. we actually just ended the lease on our premises so no respite for me in the near future, sadly.
Yeah I'm in the DMV but like on the edge where it starts to go rural. I try to get out and go for hikes or do something but for like 5 weeks straight it was either snow or rain whenever I had free time. It was maddening
I also have some troubles with 100% remoting (mainly: it's very hard to keep the work-life balance correct). If anybody is struggling with schedule/physical space, I'd recommend this video:

Hey all , how is maila root element . Apparently , from what i ve understood , a rootelement is something related to root and can be accessed by root
Because that's how XML works. The first node is the root node (the <?xml ... is not a node but information for the parser). Are you sure this is the right channel for your question? π
oh no . Sorry π
Working remotely comes with responsibility. Many people, including me, learned it the hard way this year. But if done correctly, the gained flexibility can be really useful I guess.
I recommend making a schedule for working from home. Schedule it in 2 hour blocks. Take breaks between blocks. Go outside for fresh air, even if it's only a 5 minute walk around the block. Stick to the schedule, and if not feasible, revise the schedule accordingly. When using a company calendar, block off time in your calendar that is You-time (example: weekends, etc..), so colleagues can see in advance when you are not available for work. Be flexible but also stick to the plan. π₯³
I'm in a good position as I have a separate office at home. That makes separating work and free time a lot easier.
I only have one chair lol. I would 100% separate the work from my regular setup but I don't have the space
Definitely grateful that some coffee shops are starting to open up and I can just take my work laptop over there
but yeah having my bed 1 foot away from my work space is not ideal lol
We haven't even had them closed since may or so. Now we're getting a three-week closure for dine-in and cafes.
good advice @smoky mortar
hi guys, im a begginner but very apasionated, I've studied informatic systems in networks and I want to study cibersecurity, if someone can help me or teach me, how to solve problems in tryhackme and all of that stuff I will appreciate that, be free to DM me if someone wants to help me and give some advise. I have some knowledge in Linux Ubuntu Server and desktop and very few of Kali I also have an MTA Networking Fundamentals Certification. Ty!!:D

nice! thank you!!
I might dive into room creation. I need an outlet and a break in the monotony
The DF section looks like it needs some help
creating rooms is very fun :)
It is!
Yeah I'm thinking of making DF course that covers a little of everything. One that starts assuming that you know absolutely nothing and then moving in baby steps in a similar way to how my college courses moved
What's "DF"?
Digital Forensics
Oh, not Dwarf Fortress.
Nah I wish lol
When I quickly looked earlier it seemed that the DF section was mainly "here are the tools, now go play". I'm not exactly sure if that is that case, I'll watch some later, but I would like to spread the wealth so to say.
I got some pretty unique experiences with my degree being in DF and I would like to keep myself current as well as maybe introduce someone to the space. I'm not currently in the DFIR space now but I eventually would like to get to it.
You have to remember that still a majority of the blue team stuff is currently being remade or made from scratch so a lot of the old stuff isnβt going to be anything like what we are planning on or have pushed out
Oh yeah no doubt. That wasn't a knock and I know some new content is in the works. I just don't know what though
Delicious Fries
Delicious Food?
I'm not a DF person but I love this blog https://dfirdiva.com
Yeah DF is honestly, I feel, in this quasi state that makes it easy and hard to get into at the same time
Resources like THM though are what make it easier. I never would have gotten into it without a push from Uni
I did some DF work for a couple years... DF work related to intrusion incidents was interesting... DF work related to HR incidents was soul breaking
And there is also that
I did an HR incident once and said nope not again
DF in relation to any LEO is absolutely brutal
oh yeah, can you imagine working for FBI and doing it? it'd just crush you
HR incidents didn't involve kids
FBI is mainly FinCrime unless it crosses state lines
but it was enough that I was like nope, I can't out my fellow employees
ahh I figured FBI was a lot of child 'stuff'
But there are small sub groups that handle the brunt of the child stuff
Unless it's changed my understanding is that FBI doesn't have jurisdiction unless it crosses state borders or they are asked for help
This may have changed. I last talked to the FBI a couple of years ago
Ooh, auroras! Not too impressive ones, but more than iβve seen this year.
treasury dept handles things like counterfeiting, not ponzi schemes and check fraud
Yeah i should have specified. White collar FinCrime is FBI generally
@rapid summit wya? I'll be right there
Looks like Finnmark and Lapland are getting some activity right now
Shines?
my boss told me a story about an HR lady years ago who got phished and ending up sending a couple checks to some random bank account lol, its pretty worrying how much PII they guard
I haven't seen Aurora's in decades :(
@twin ridge here, has Aurora
is that a special filter you used @tawdry dove
No. All of these are out of camera
really green though
All were taken on an A7ii with a 14mm Rokinon lens. Shot between 600-3000 ISO, F2.8, and shutterspeed was somewhere around 1/16th of a second or so
Yeah depending on the type and craziness of the solar activity it can change the colors
that is one thing I would like to see some day though
That and since these are out of body no color correction has been made
So certain colors will overpower others
holy macaroni
seeing northern lights is on my bucket list
some quiet cabin in norway yes please
Yeah this was in Norway. I went in November 2019 when I was studying in Berlin for the semester
long commute
Yeah this was our week break from classes. Honestly not bad of a flight. It was like 3 hours to Oslo?
And then we flew to Alta the next morning and that was like 4 hours I think
Got the entire row to myself which was rad
4 hours from oslo to alta?
@jake it might be a lot shorter. I zonked out on the flight
did you go and see the lights yourself or as part of like an expedition type of thing idk what they call it
tbf i just looked at the map and norway is actually kinda long
@weary haven on a pullout off the E45 just outside Alta, Norway
This was our "school vacation" so we had a week to go wherever we wanted. A friend and I went specifically for the lights and got multiple nights of them, which is apparently rare. @short elk
It was either Norway or North Africa/Middle East ish. During our planning phase civil unrest broke out in the region so we decided not to be dumb dumbs and went to Norway
Flights to Jordan are surprisingly cheap from Berlin
If you only bring a backpack it was like $50
ah nice
some good locations
i wanna go to jordan too, i forgot what the place i wanna see is called though uhhhhh
The underground palace thing?
ah, petra, yeahhh
Yeah
Also just joking around we looked to see how much it would cost to go to Madagascar. Unfortunately, the flight times didn't work out but it was only slightly more expensive than the flight to Norway. You could also like like a king because we found a 30 Bedroom Palace thing on Airbnb for like $50 USD a night
hahahaha that would be amazing
the roads in madagascar are terrible though so don't expect too much driving if you ever go π
top gear?
I'm fine with walking. Also mopeds are surprisingly durable lol
I wanna go to Disneyland
Disney World is better in my opinion
Nice
@autumn trout disneyland paris is magical π₯Ί
i'll take u and bee
It hurts to breathe
you might want to go to the doctor
does it look like i can afford it?
I don't know? but honestly, that is worrisome, depends where you are at, in the US there are free clinics
have a good ( hacking ) day all
you too kind sir
thanks homie
you tooo mahn

do you recomend to get the subscription?
I was with network fundamentals and I knew the "Introductory Networking" because of my studies
but last classes are only for VIP members
and I dont know anything about that things
Thats why Im thinking to subscribe
if I am student I get discounts isn't it?
For learning path sure
this is why Im thinking to buy it
Yeah 20% discount I believe, just need to sign up with a .edu email i think? Or hit up support if you dont have an .edu address probs
It does more than just .edu
because this paths are basic concepts to learn the last two I think
Not only that u can do cool rooms like burp, zap which will help u in web ctfs
!docs free-path
That might help.
Fairs
yeaah would defientely recommend THM premium
not too sure on that point though i hve heard and i think there is a student discount
Use your student email as your account email.
Anybody did. Blueteam path on tryhackme?
Doggo has went to sleep π
Sleep sleep? Sorry to hear that Moose.
Yeah sleep sleep
I'm so sorry to hear that Moose - it's always a hard thing to go through, and even more so with the state of things now. All we can do is give them the best life we can while they're around, and from the sound of how much you care for doggo, I feel pretty confident that you did just that.
I'm so sorry Moose, we had to do that for our dear beloved 15 yr old beagle in October. My heart still breaks every day without him
Yeah it was rough. I'm sure I'll have a real ugly cry eventually but for right now I compartmented the feelings and shoved them way down
I don't want to deal with them right now
@bright cliff You are 100% Here π
Today I talked about Kubernetes Security in my company, and the knowledge from the room "The Docker Rodeo" was really useful.
I want to say great thank you, @serene trench .
Thank you @hard gazelle I really appreciate the feedback! I'm really glad that you found it of use π

why is the board flipped?

hehehe
lol
nah i saw it on some subreddit
this position is possible in a game, but i think they made it like this
white spot is always on right side when pieces are set
i know
so they will move upwards
confused about what?
1 move is a move by both players
nevermind, maybe I don't understand the notation enough
and led to answer your question, what could happen for this to be a real game is, both players run their kings and pawns all the way to the other side
oh
when playing with white, A1 is bottom left, H1 is bottom right
but in the picture, H8 is bottom left, meaning the players ran their pieces all the way up the board
ok so yeah this is a mind warp
yeah lol, it was on a subreddit where people post positions and people have to comment what they think is the best move, and this one threw loads of people off lol

Also Hawaii is on Tsunami watch because an 8.1 just rocked New Zealand
Which is rough because I think it said that it would hit Hawaii at like 3-4am
And the tsunami watch was just canceled
This has been the weather with moose
That's a lot of quakes.
depending on the size, but I think in some areas it is normal to get quakes
plus Iceland is a volcanic island
Ok, it's been long enough since the chess puzzle, let's see if a life-and-death problem from Go can get snuck in here before they're back!
Black to move and kill.
Not pictured: The gun that Black will use to move and kill the opponent
I'm already annoyed at Africa as there's sand in the air throwing the pollution index way up

If it's reasonable for general voice chat, I can do an impromptu Learn to Play Go thing there sometime
I didn't play go for a long time but Q1 seems to solve the puzzle for me.
An excellent round of chess here to demonstrate how the game should be played to it's full potential.

Nice! Yup, Q1 is the correct answer. It forces white to either fill in what would otherwise be an eye at R1 or lose the P1 stone.
thanks π I mean, it seems pretty basic: as black you have to attack, because if you only close on T3/O1 then with Q1 white has two eyes β attack on Q1 (if you attack on R1, he'll take your R1 with Q1 and still have two eyes)
Y'all ever have those memories when you think back and realize that in said situation you were an idiot
