If I was gonna do it I'd probably be looking at a LAMP stack but I could be woefully outdated on that.

untold bear
#

theres a lot of variables to this tbh

uneven oak
#

Google is your friend my friend.

#

LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP/Perl/Python) is a very common example of a web service stack, named as an acronym of the names of its original four open-source components: the Linux operating system, the Apache HTTP Server, the MySQL relational database management system (RDBMS), and the PHP programming language. The LAMP components are largely...

#

Like I said I might be massively outdated as its been a good while since I've looked at any of this, but its an option.

untold bear
#

basic apache is yes, there's other variations and such etc

#

You could use python like you mentioned but I'm not sure what your websites for or what your end goal is

odd acorn

#

untold bear

odd acorn
#

All operating systems can be vulnerable, it's mainly user error which makes them vulnerable

candid seal
#

I agree Wilbur

dry aspen
odd acorn
#

Many of TryHackMe's rooms are based upon user error and what can happen when you configure something incorrectly

candid seal
#

@dry aspen yes canonical is supporting ubuntu but why it is not shown as most secure is lists as qubeos I don't know

dry aspen
#

@candid seal pls dont send friend request :)

odd acorn
#

I would probably say it is because other operating systems are more secure
If every operating system was intensely secure, technically there would not be a non-secure one, there would just be others that are even more secure.
To add to that, Ubuntu is a very popular operating system and with more users there are more exploits simply because of the sheer amount of people.
While I do not also have evidence to back this up, it is still a reason for why an operating system may have been considered insecure, just means that more people are actively using it and thus more exploits are found.

#

I'm reading the Neovim PR

#

They linked to this PR

#

where Bram just said, and I quote:

#

I find this offensive to females.

#

This deserves some more explanation, I didn't have time for that yesterday.
This pull request pretends to improve gender neutrality, but actually does the opposite.

Most obviously, it removes the statement of inclusion, that makes clear Vim was made for everybody.

More subtly, this change infers that using "he" when referring to the user means the user would be male.
This instantly creates a problem, instead of solving it. It teaches people one way of interpreting the English
language in a way that I find offensive. It's like two tribes living happily next to each other until someone
blows up a difference and causes the tribes to go to war.

Let it be clear: I am allergic to discrimination and injustice. I might be a bit sensitive about this subject.
I feel offended if people say something bad about text that was written with good intentions.

#

It seems that being a fork of Vim is causing pain to Neovim, especially as they have to re-base and edit code everytime Vim updates

is it possible to add another category in the kali linux applications list ?

?

when you click the applications tab on kali linux you get multiple categories like "password attacks" "wireless attacks"... i want to add another one for some other tools

yeah there are some folders in kali where you can add stuff, google would be best bet for how to do that

hey guys, I want to explore more advanced concepts of anonymity, after hardening my VM, how can I deploy real life tests to see how secure it is? is there a TryHackMe version where I can safely invite people to try breaking into my own box and reporting what they find? I know this is the concept of bug bounties, but is there a smaller, community version of this?

Exciting times! Looks peng, good work

burnt night
#

it doesn't come through so well int he photo, but the chicken had super golden and crispy skin

#

The white and dark meat were both moist and tender, I used Adam Raguesea's method where you score the legs and cook in the oven safe pan for 10mins with the thighs down to help cook the dark meat first

uneven oak
#

Sounds like the ideal chicken! I'm a fan of spatchcocking a chicken for even cooking but the method you described sounds good, will have a read up on that.

burnt night
#

It requires a decent size oven safe pan/skillet, I used my cast iron which was barely big enough

uneven oak
#

Aye ill have something no doubt I went through a period during first lockdown of acquiring various crockery haha.

burnt night
#

A good cast iron is a great buy. If you treat it right, it's like ยฃ15-30 that will last you your whole life. The older stuff has a smoother surface, but the new stuff works ok. The important thing is to properly season it the first time, and keep using it. And avoid using pointy metal things as that will scratch the seasoning

uneven oak
#

I've considered cast irons a fair but never made the plunge, I do like the idea of having a good pan that I tend to and hopefully keep for a couple decades.

#

Heat retention n whatnot Is meant to be insane with them too

burnt night
#

They're so cheap, compared to a stainless skillet

#

You can get a very heavy pan for a lot less money, so more thermal mass so more energy stored. Whacking a 500g steak in there won't bring the temp all the way down, that's one of the key advantages

twin ridge
#

cast iron is (almost) cheaper than dirt

uneven oak
#

Yeah I'm always wary of loading pans too quick when I'm trying to get a good sear going

burnt night
#

I don't think you really have to be if you have a properly hot cast iron.

uneven oak

Consider me sold. Gonna grab that right now haha

I'm just angry at my dad for using a carving knife and fork to move the chicken out of it, seasoning scratched now.

I had stolen my dad's cast iron skillet, and I think he stole it from his mum

Another secret trick I've heard is fry some onions as the first cook @uneven oak. I don't know why exactly, but it's meant to be great. I loooove slow frying onions in my cast iron, lovely caramelised onions at the end.

twin ridge
#

hmm

uneven oak
#

Caramelised onions are good juju - sounds like I'm gonna be having myself a steak n cheese this weekend

twin ridge
#

mmm

uneven oak
#

Some cast iron fried onions n hot peppers? Oh lawd

twin ridge
#

first fry should be something pretty greasy

#

I use a stainless steel saucepan for onions generally

burnt night
#

I regularly cook my bacon in it, to keep it in use.

twin ridge
#

yesh

uneven oak
#

Do you cook your bacon on high heat? I've been doing it recently and enjoying the results

twin ridge
#

you want to avoid acids though

uneven oak
#

Was always a medium guy prior

burnt night
#

Generally very low, to get it crispy

twin ridge
#

I generally use medium heat

#

depends on the pan though

burnt night
#

About 3-4 weeks of regular use, that much seasoning

lunar verge
#

America's Test Kitchen had a great tip for bacon, start the pan cold, put in your bacon and pour in enough water to slightly cover the bacon. The boiling water will cook the bacon perfectly, and once evaporated, the fat will go crispy, and not dry out ๐Ÿ‘Œ

twin ridge

also heard don't use soap on cast iron
