Hoodie too but you can't see that
Well of course, why wouldn't you wear one.
Roots hoodies best hoodies
I always thought they were called Top Gun shades lol
And here was me thinking those were Aviators
some rooms have walkthrough vids that are not accessible if you're a free member
That's the one! Aviators.... i like that more think @twin ridge just wants to rule the world imo ๐
They're officially called aviator shades but yeah sure
Shakshuka
๐ฎ
I am gonna try to add dumplings to my stew thats in the crockpot
It's glorious
I've been meaning to tri Shakshuka substituting polenta for eggs but haven't gotten around to it
It'd be vegetarian friendly but I added chorizo
Looks yum James!
I'd highly highly recommend it
As a breakfast or brunch, or add a pita or crusty bread to make it a dinner
That's a great weekend breakfast
That looks like a really nice breakfast! I'll have to try that. My son would love it too
use a fork.
Looks fantastic. Love shakshuka ๐
Probably is, but it doesn't redirect all traffic
Probably not, no
No
Just the THM network
No just THM
The THM VPN only routes 10.0.0.0/8 over the VPN. It's known as a split tunnel.
You're fine connecting to anything you want over the internet. It only affects stuff going into to THM network.
yes
i wanna learn hacking
Hi i have some problem
when i try with my laptop
curl -i https://www.airtel.in.s3.amazonaws.com/ -sk
result is "AccessDenied"
but when i am run this command in VPS
its give me "NoSuchBucket" i dont know why
Bread!
Big bread vibes in quiet convo
Mmmm, looks good
Iโm fighting the big bread by baking my own ones โ
Power to the gluten! Lemme know how it turns out
Thatโs 100% rye, so not really rich in gluten ๐
Looking forward to the end results Arhu!
Soon.
Oooo
Looks amazing!
Letโs hope itโs sour/strong enough.
Oh yes it is.
Homerun!
I think I'll attempt to make bread this week now....
now dis is a baking channel?
Imagine the amount of banana loafs thered be if itd pivoted like this at the start of lockdown
We have cooking as well.
Telling teenagers to go and sleep. But we've more of that in general chat.
But we could add greenhouse and gardening stuff to the list if you like.
Personally, I'm looking into growing microgreens at the moment, since I'm living in an apartment. Any of you have experience?
Yes please! I want advice on how to rescue my spider plant babies which are dying one by one ๐ญ
I want to grow a succulent or something at some point
I'm just waiting for the time to plant all the seeds i've ordered.
I've bought my herbs and vegetable seeds I want to grow this year - I'm just wondering if I should buy myself a mini greenhouse
I bought a bulbasaur plant pot
Awww they're sooo cute! I saw one on this secret santa thing I did last year
It was like ยฃ4
I have no where to put it
my one spot I have on my desk is of the dead fred pencil holder ๐
I just got an ad for peonies.
Well that's better than me getting ads about malware ๐
I think malware would take less of my money
And it was a welcome ad! You need to know about their latest arrivals
the peonies?
yep.
Oof I'm so bad with plants... I've killed succulents before and I didn't know that was possible
.<
It's like yh that's him
I had a spider plant when I was younger that didn't die
They kinda grow like weed
But when I went to separate the babies into another plant pot to grow they're not doing so well ๐ฆ
Oh
I'm sorry, I can't help you much with that though
I know but words woulda been nice Hydra! I thought we were friends ๐ญ
you're like my age twin
You aren't the only one to watch cacti slowly descend into the abyss
I'm not very good at words, sorry
emojis?!
Blasted newfangled things ;)
Lmao

Needs a mouse to select them, they're to slow :D
Well discord has the shortcuts I guess ๐คท
what kinda discord do you have that you can't go to the shortcuts and scroll through to select which one you want?!
Mobile for now
Still the same!
@burnt night we gonna try to make some hibachi
Oooh lawd
those are some fine looking steaks
Am I invited? ๐
of course bb
๐ข
@quaint basin @cinder spoke @half fractal I'm putting together a blog post path (like my free path) for extremely hard THM content, any suggestions? ๐
Windcorp
Internal
Ra
Ra 2
Osiris
CCT2019
Set
Overpass 3
Year of the fox
Wonderland
Year of the owl
One Piece
Theseusu
Iron Corp
Windcorp
list so far
Done!
i think overpass 3 is hard but not extremely hard
Oh, Christ no. Overpass 3 is a solid medium. Year of the Fox is an easy hard. Internal is a medium, as is wonderland, and year of the owl, technically -- it was just bumped to hard
Looking glass
Jeff
Misguided Ghosts
Anonymous Playground
One piece I don't think so, although I've not done it. Think it might have annoyed people more than been hard? Windcorp is also the series, not the room ๐
Otherwise I reckon that's a good list of the hardest stuff on the platform?
Jeff definitely. Not sure about the others there in comparison to the stuff on the list though
Also Borderlands
so no internal, owl or wonderland?
Looking glass Jeff Misguided Ghosts Anonymous Playground
Inoculation[23:42]Racetrack
what about these?
from blackout ๐
Owl possibly given it caused lots of people a lot of trouble, although it was designed as an easy
Jeff definitely
And Inoculation and Racetrack
Maybe Python Playground as well and Enterprize?
We also have For business reasons

year of the dog, instead of owl?
cause owl wasn't "extremely hard" not even hard if we remove the first gimmick.
probably not only me. ur notion title is "extremely hard rooms"
Tbf even Yotd isn't even that hard
I've got a new one in the mix that's completely different
Sooo delete year of the dog?
I mean, I'm biased. If leggy suggests it ๐คทโโ๏ธ
wait i didn't say delete year of the dog
i said to add it. but u can add both right in ur path?
also what about ur flower/plant series muiririri?
its from a tweet i made the other day
hard content is hard to find on THM
so i wanted to highlight it
hard content sometimes depends on the who is attacking it
oh that termack's room was hard as heck
@autumn trout I donโt think internal should be on there itโs not hard even though itโs rated hard
in a cave?
internal was mayor's room right?
That, uh, really isn't hard ๐
Yep
feck it
vote on it
probably but when i started and tried to solve one of ur of series.. i coudn't do it. Tho i probably can now.
I would say YOTD is the hardest out of them in that poll
Bee are used saying I'm an expert?
my vote was yotd
none of them is illegal choice lmao ๐คฃ
is James an expert
Yeah and itโs far from hard
true.
both oscp rooms were pretty systematic.
Just a bunch of brute force which is not what I think of when I think of a hard room
cries in muiri
internal isnt on the list btw
If it doesnโt give me clinical depression I donโt want it

I'm sad none of mine made it but not surprised
jeff was a good one. with that blind cron
Tempus
Not sure about Anonymous Playground
i would rate ur openssl one as hard if the foothold were a little bit harder
Tempus Fugit though
It was a meme of a box
u make good boxes soo ๐คทโโ๏ธ who cares if it's meme ๐คฃ
I could probably redux it ๐
(add some htb boxes as well
)
Hard/ er was a hard one iirc
The exploitation on that binary is actually documented better now, I think I had a positive effect on the infosec community in that way
u totally had. probably they made linpeas commits because of ur box rofl
Linpeas flags it but the exploit isn't there
I found out after the box released that there was a rejected PR to GTFOBins that would have documented it
they actually did, the cannot read sudoers.d gimmick in ur looking glass i guess.. they actually created that feature after that
i don't remember it was looking glass or wonderland or umm alice?
anyway.. they totally read the .d directories now.
Haha nice
@candid island it was the first Wonderland box
lol
Beee In a cave. do a vote for in a cave. I thought that was pretty tough ngl
is par's box released? the apt to root one.
umm there was a box pars made the rating easy for the lulz. it has some php attacks first then docker to logs to docker escape to user then apt poisoning to root?
there was a box i swear. i am not drunk

idk unless Muiri is making a Year of the Chicken
Para had some Four Horseman themed boxes @candid island
Unreleased, haven't heard anything else about them
yeah it was not chicken
it was 'war'
i solved it in unintended way ๐คฃ
is it in the pipeline or not going to be released? looked pretty complete to me except for that unintended
I haven't seen or heard anything about it
ok
gimme early access to ur boxes. ur boxes are
and i am bored
No
ok
No one other than testers get early access
And they get reset before release
And don't get to compete for bloods
its basically just a nasty challenge pars made because he hates society I dont think he has plans to release it rn

@autumn trout soooo
I wouldn't say anon playground was that hard, dave's blog would be a better fit imo but still would kinda question it.
But I'd definitely add tempus fugit durius and spring to the list.
Spring was... in depth
I reeeeeeeeally liked spring
I tested spring
I regretted opting to test it, but it worked
I learnt something
I would also not be able to do it without having tested it
Added!
It'd be cool to get these as a module or series IMO?
The impossible rooms series?
These rooms are challenging. Some of the most difficult rooms on TryHackMe. If you're an experienced hacker and want to properly test your skills, try these out.
Skidy you can use that for free
I love that there's enough content on tryhackme, that if you've done it all you are qualified under "experienced hacker"
If you're an experienced hacker
with an impossible badge
MY EYES
@indigo oasis broke the top 50 for now, need more points to solidify the spot
Eh!? What top 50?! Only top 50 I broke are my collection of shoes ๐
but I beat your leveling
very competitive at that point and got bumped a few hours later
What levelling?? You're 0xD.... I'm still far from hacker level ๐
how many more points
I am on something like 3280?
how many to next level
go hack stuff, Quirky!
yeash that's a good idea
800 points isn't too bad, we can race
You know I fell asleep at 21:30 or something and just woke up
Blackdragon do you have another account???
Try the Cyber Defence learning pathway: https://tryhackme.com/path/outline/blueteam ๐
But I don't understand how are you saying I'm beating you?!
I am so confused right now. Are you drunk ir anything??!?! Or am I dreaming?!?
You mean the higher I go up the higher you go up!?
I feel like I'm having a really really dumb moment here
no, trying to incentives you to the next level
Lol don't worry I got this! Just this week is super hectic at work
I'll be finishing late in the evening this week ๐ญ
I have a pretty set schedule luckily
just by the time I'm done with work, my computer is often the last thing I want to be on
My schedule varies weekly and the next few weeks are going to be crazy. I just need to reorganise it all. I may just wake up earlier instead and start work at 6.30 so then I can do THM and studies after work
Rather you than me.
how are your studies James, have you moved past archaic routing protocols
Never
rip ftw
Lemme ask them :))
It's unlikely to happen -- most of them are already part of other series and I know Skidy doesn't want to mix
I don't care if it happens, I just make suggestions based on what I see the community wants :))
Then a module works IMO
That could do it ๐คทโโ๏ธ
just finished seasoning a chili I made for some friends coming over today. First time trying to cook anything without a recipe (just some general ratios in mind). It seems to be pretty good. Wife is making chicken pot pie as well, so should be quite a feast.
That looks delicious @visual breach enjoy!
5lbs beef + some various dried beans, water, 3 cans of fire-roasted tomatoes, 1 onion, beef boulion powder, and spices.
I love free hand cooking, they always come out the best imo
I am super new to it. Spent all last year learning how to do the basics and did lots of baking (1 new recipe a month). This is only like my second time making chili ever. Paprika is your friend is what I learned today.
Awwww well done! And yes paprika is your best friend in these kinda dishes. What is the best dish you've made so far and best bake too?
lets see. I found a fantastic recipe for a japanese style fruitcake which we all love. I'd say one of the current highlights is I have mastered the garfield lasagna from "binging with babish". My personal favorite is still the chicago style deep-dish pizza.
oh, and we don't buy bread anymore because it's so easy to make it at home (we invested in a stand mixer)
If you can, get the Rotel's diced tomatos. Highly recommend.
I have no idea what the garfield lasagne is so will have to look that up! Was the Japanese fruitcake a free hand recipe or something you found online?
Stand mixers are life!
https://www.tasteofsouthern.com/japanese-fruitcake/print/10118/
yeah, rotel saves a lot of time on seasoning for sure.

This week, we forgo the usual clip from the movie - an unfortunate scene wherein the CGI cat dances along to the Black Eyed Peas - in favor of a clip from this week's collab with Brad Leone! Join Brad, Vinny and I as we seek to build the perfect pile of pasta, otherwise known as lasagna.
Head over to It's Alive with Brad to see how we made the...
I don't make the pasta though
I really want to make home made lasagne
Binging with Babish is my go-to for things that look awesome but i probably wont' make
Thanks for this I might attempt this too!
that lasagna is totally doable. I do the bolognaise in a crockpot, then assemble, cook, and done. It uses almost exactly 1 box of noodles and 1 container of ricotta and leaves some bolognase juice leftover that my wife makes into a very tasty biscuits and gravy (already seasoned). It's not like the normal thing, but still good.
I find that making things with leftovers is fine! Food is something that always should be experimented! i'm always trying random recipes
wife freezes the bolognaise juice until she's ready to use it. She's also been into making lots of freezer meals this year and they've all been spectacular, but then, my wife is a very good cook
Awww that's cute!
I do my chilli without ratios
loosey goosey is my favourite kind of cooking
Just a pack of mince, bunch of mushrooms, bunch of beans, two tins tomatoes, 1 stock cube of stock, salt, pepper, cumin, smoked paprika all to tadte
Smoked paprika is magic
I think thats what i've got uno momento
Doesn't even say but the brand is Especial Del Sol and it was like 7 quid so it bloody better be smoked
I've always remembered it as sweet smoked but hmmm
I use beer in my chili
Stouts or porters work best, though a triple or brown is also good
I tend to use the beers for a stew instead
Peppers are indispensible in Chilis imo
And hot
I'm super jealous about the US peeps being able to get the nice smoked and dry peppers because hmmmmmmmm
I can probably find some from an online speciality store
Jalapenos should be easy to find
If basic
I usually sweeten my chili a bit with maple syrup (not a lot but it helps counter the acidity of the tomatoes)
Brits must surely have a better choice of spices than France though...
It's a miracle if I find anything spicier than salt here :(
And the bars here have never heard of suicide wings :( or deep fried pickles
Or potato skins
Hydra do you live in a village?
petition to rename to food-channel
What else would you need than salt, when you have French food ๐
More spice?
We have hotter stuff in regular stores than I could handle. A typical supermarket has a shelf of chili sauces.
Hydra wants more spice in his life!
I live in a tiny village
Ah do you live near any cities? Because if you want more spices see if there's like an Asian shop around?
Well if you ever go there check it out because you never know!
I got some Korean noodles a while ago. I haven't dared to eat the extra spicy ones. The regular spicy ones were the longest lunch I've ever had.
Yeah but they're closed during my lunch break
Lol Arhu i can't even eat any kind of spice ๐ฆ
Weekends?
I can get espelette peppers but those aren't that spicy
How much more spicey do you want? Scotch bonnet?
Really? I found them spicier than Jalapenos
One of my regular stores has fresh Carolina reapers in their shelves.
and that's a regular supermarket, not a specialty store.
Those are the spiciest right?
Ouch that just made my stomach burn thinking about it
I die at the slightest bit of spice even my mum tries and fails lol. I get told I'm an embarrassment to Indians ๐
Not my cup of tea either.
Nope not for me lol
I can't eat spicey food at all.....can you imagine what my family gatherings are like for me..... It's like I'm the black sheep of food or something ๐
I'm sorry :(
It's alright I got use to it lol
but spicey foods are the spice of life
I see you want me dead hmm???
it wont kill you, you just have to slowly get used to it
although the spiciest thing I have had was a few ghost peppers
Blackrdragon I'm Indian....spice has always been part of my life until maybe 5 years ago?
My body can no longer tolerate spicy food at all...even the slightest my nose is running and my ears are burning lol
culture has nothing to with liking spice, I have known several Indians that did not like spice at all
I get runny nose when I eat spice often, sweating as well
What I mean is spice is one of the most essential things in a South Asian Culture amongst other cultures too.... and we eat spicy spicy food everyday
I know that, I love Asian foods
funny thing is the Indian restaurants around here have a spice scale that you can order from no spice to really spicy
the indian near where I used to live had 5 levels - no spice, swedish mild, swedish spicy, indian mild, indian spicy ๐
I've never heard of Swedish spice lol that's a new one
I know of a restaurant that has spicy levels up to at least 15. IIRC 5 is at indian spicy levels.
Yh I know there's much spicier I think in South America?
@indigo oasis I can't live without spice..... I can't eat anything sweet... Like everytime a taste a sweet I generally tend to puke off
He who controls the spice, controls the universe.
Lollll @rapid summit
The Spice must flow!
I've heard this quote from somewhere....I can't remember now though
Frank Herbert!
According to Google but I've heard it somewhere else
it's from a movie I think
I love sweet food! But then I do have a bit of a sweet tooth
I kind of guessed it
I've no idea if that line was present in Dune film (or the upcoming one), or the miniseries, but at least it's in the novel.
It says it was in Dune 1984
~~Because I'm super sweet?! ~~:P
Nah ๐
Lmao
I mean ๐
no no it's ok you've said it
No quirk... Your sweet

Hey people, I just started with tryhackme.com, and the Linux rooms is realy difficult, how you learn all that stuff?
I think I'm too stupid to learn all that stuff
Not at all it's just practise
Just keep trying take a break if it gets too much but just don't give up
Thank you for the encouragement
I recommend checking out John Hammond on YouTube to get the feeling of what you'll be learning and are there to help if you get stuck
Thanks I'll check it out
@radiant jacinth check this link out. It is a cute little game but really good for learning the commands. This was sent to my by one of the mentors here https://cmdchallenge.com/#/create_directory
One-line shell challenges, to help improve your skill on the commandline.
It may seem really silly but I really do reccomend it!

@radiant jacinth I had no experience with Linux before I joined the site, so I made notes saying what each command was so when I git stuck I could look it up

If I was gonna do it I'd probably be looking at a LAMP stack but I could be woefully outdated on that.
theres a lot of variables to this tbh
Google is your friend my friend.
LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP/Perl/Python) is a very common example of a web service stack, named as an acronym of the names of its original four open-source components: the Linux operating system, the Apache HTTP Server, the MySQL relational database management system (RDBMS), and the PHP programming language. The LAMP components are largely...
Like I said I might be massively outdated as its been a good while since I've looked at any of this, but its an option.
basic apache is yes, there's other variations and such etc
You could use python like you mentioned but I'm not sure what your websites for or what your end goal is
I'd assume so I don't know rust haha
okay lets not code the webserver in C haha
That's a @tribal tide move
Exactly, glad you understand that
So what's your goal? Sorry. Not sure what your aiming for.
BTW Rovako, a lot of this information is on google ๐
Bit of a reach like jesus
Hi everyone
There's different stuff you could try to obtain your end goal tbh the possibilities are endless
theres always good ol python -m SimpleHTTPServer
Can anyone just tell me which Linux is most secure to use
Qubeos
Can we use qubeos as our primary?
I haven't used it so cant say
Why don't u pick ubuntu or mint for start as daily driver@candid seal
I think ubuntu is vulnerable to hackers
^
All operating systems can be vulnerable, it's mainly user error which makes them vulnerable
I agree Wilbur
If u update ur os daily,,dont open any unnecessary port u will be fine Also cannonical firm is supporting that os
Many of TryHackMe's rooms are based upon user error and what can happen when you configure something incorrectly
@dry aspen yes canonical is supporting ubuntu but why it is not shown as most secure is lists as qubeos I don't know
@candid seal pls dont send friend request :)
I would probably say it is because other operating systems are more secure
If every operating system was intensely secure, technically there would not be a non-secure one, there would just be others that are even more secure.
To add to that, Ubuntu is a very popular operating system and with more users there are more exploits simply because of the sheer amount of people.
While I do not also have evidence to back this up, it is still a reason for why an operating system may have been considered insecure, just means that more people are actively using it and thus more exploits are found.
Every distro works different,,qubeos was designed in order to enable work in compartments.Ubuntu is great as daily driver
2021 is end of life for current version

You got it
Actually I'm new to this try hack me
Is it very useful
Good
I just finally ended in a right place
Paid subscription uhh?
Definitely not necessary if you're just starting out -- 80% of the content is free
Ohh good ๐
A lot of people subscribe for that extra content (as a fair chunk of the paid content is the stuff that's been commissioned, rather than community created), as well as to support the platform
It also comes with a big speed boost for the boxes you deploy, and a much longer period of time with the AttackBox each day
Non-subs have 512Mb of RAM with 1 core on non-bumped boxes @rich oriole
I think the time to deploy is the same but much improved resources
Subs have double -- a gig of RAM with 2 cores
Which is why most of the Windows content is sub only -- the boosts required to make it work are incredibly expensive
The time to deploy is literally just the time it takes to boot up the OS. Literally as if you were booting a physical machine on the same resources
Aye I'm with you, I was mostly speaking to that other kid but got caught up inbetween your responses aha
See the big green button in the rooms?
Yeah
That's essentially a link to AWS (Amazon Web Services). TryHackMe hosts vulnerable virtual machines in the cloud. "Deploying" is when you start them up.
Exactly

That makes sense - itโs hard to use both when you canโt exit vim
vim is easy though
Hey, what's the difference between kali Linux and attackbox in the site, and why is attackbox the recommended way? Which one to use? I'm total beginner
The attackbox is kept up to date, and is ubuntu based
You can use your own VM instead and VPN in which is what I'd recommend
Thank you very much my friend
evil mode is vim keybindings in emacs
so it took me about 15 seconds to learn hwo to use emacs
the command to open emacs isemacs
thats it
nope
its built in :))
If you want more IDE-like try spacemacs https://github.com/syl20bnr/spacemacs
eh i just use vim keybinding and emacs tooling rn ๐
why not just...you know...get an ide?
Why can't I join broadcasts
I did not understand
What's everyone's opinion on the 2019 Kali vs 2020?
2019.3, pre-non root user is my preferred distro, but a lot of things break now a days
anyone good with css here
having trouble with vmin
the font size is 10vmin which for some reason is very large here, and the width of the links is 10vmin too, which actually does look like 10vmin units
i think it's just because vmin acts differently for font-size vs width for some reason
Breakfast ๐
I think thatโs staring at me.
Maybe it is....
I'm sorry Jakey.... You can have that in your mind!
iโll go ask mum if she can make me a breakfast ๐
Lol make it yourself!
i'm working
So am I!
okay fine ๐ค
๐ฆ hope it was still tasty Jakey
It sucks when food fails at the assembly part
I made a sponge cake a couple of weeks ago and when I took it out the fridge it faceplanted on the floor
Oh lord, that'll ruin ya day
it was okay
we didn't have any plain wraps so i used a tomato and something wrap so it was a weird combo
oh no tux
gbbo vibes
Awww Jake sorry ๐ฆ did it still taste good?
Sad times ๐ฆ
sad ๐ฆ
Sed๐
this is why people should use real ides
Yes, I agree -- Neovim is a great option ๐
Hi folks - brand new to discord and new to try hack me too, but more importantly I'm totally new to cyber sec! Currently working my way through the Advent of Cyber, trying to pick up new things. But anyway, hello from Scotland ๐๐ผ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ๐
Ayeeeee, finally another Scot around here
Freeedooooom!!! ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ
we need to hide the whiskey better now
Isnโt 0day technically a scot now as well
All this talk about Scotland makes me miss my fam
Gonna have to make some mince and tatties to make up for it
Welcomee!!!!
oh i main neovim
i just triied emacs to see if i actually liked it
i had far too many problems with terminal emulation ๐ฆ
Nope
I tried to learn emacs like 20 years ago and gave up
yeah it's the classic negative feedback loop
Ayyy! Followed you on Twitter dude ๐ค๐ผ
Thank you!! ๐
I kept forgetting the keyboard shortcuts to quit emacs. Vim was easier
Anybody in here using the new M1 Macbook chipset? I currently use the THM AttackBox for the boxes in there, but I've got a Kali box in AWS, just not sure how to download THM's OpenVpn and run it?
Just because VirtualBox/VMWare don't support M1 ARM yet
Parallels early access works ok.
Guest tools aren't available in it at the moment, but otherwise it works fine. Naturally running x86/x64 code is an issue with it.
Do you have to pay for that version? Does it run Kali okay? Thanks dude
I think you can get a code for it from their website gratis. And my kali box works fine - but installing it can be tricky as offensive security does not provide installation medium for arm
Ah okay. Kinda new to all this so I might struggle if it's not intuitive ๐
I'll look in a bit the instructions. It's mainly just installing arm debian, then reconfiguring it to use kali sources.
Oracle is unlikely to entirely rewrite VirtualBox for M1 ARM. The only route seems to be VMware Fusion Player/Pro going forward.
in addition to parallels, that is. Their business is on Macs anyway ๐
i am seeing a couple articles that people have gotten QEMU/KVM to work on M1 ARM architecture
Parallels is fine for a single VM, particularly for Windows, but is not a professional option compared to VMware which has support for many OS types.
A single VM is good enough for running a kali box locally.
Thanks folks, I'll perhaps give the parallels one a go, that'd be cool.
There is one which has like 300 members
ok
anyway
i wanna make a keybind inb vim
:tabe :term
Binded to any key
pls help i've been googling for months
vim is evil, who would want to make a discord for it
Bee will
pls
it takes me
10 key presses
to get a terminal
pls i beg u
i need a keybinding
but i cant fiigure out how to make it work
I'm making a query on a random server I joined ages ago
a vim query!
ouch
sounds like a dark saying
oh wait i got something! Bee what is your query? I'll copy and paste it there
:tabe :term
As a Vim keybinding
I want to open a terminal in a newtab as a key binding ๐คท
ok i'll say exactly that
Vim is best
nano to rule them all
Nah you can use vim bindings in note takers just shows vim is better
Like Obsidian uses Vim key bindings
it's just been around longer
And the fact that it's survived shows its superiority
but its losing its popularity, it's not as easy to use
its not
41k stars
316 PRs
vim itself will probs die cause its just one maintainer who doesn't value new features but values stability and when he dies, vim dies but neovim is great!
also 22k stars on the official vim repo https://github.com/vim/vim
literally 2 people lol
vi -> vim -> neovim
i.e. people are becoming increasingly moronic?
Bee
Naw, Vim will be fine. As you say -- it doesn't get new features anyway
they don't really have a clue - I tried but they're googling it lmao
Someone else will take it over, guaranteed
wouldn't say moronic, just a different generation coming up
And fork they will
bram himself sucks
the community is great tho
Bram takes peoples PRs and puts them under his own name so no one else can become a contributor lol
I mean, if people are switching to easier (and less efficient) options because they can't use the better software, that doesn't strike me as being logical.
The better decision would be to put the time and effort into learning the more efficient solution
its kinda like Git tbh. You can get by with using a Git gui, or you can spend a couple hours learning it and become very efficient with it ๐คท
I started in the command prompt with basic, both have gone to different usages since, the technology advances
Honestly I need to get better at Git CLI. I can use it fundamentally, but that's about it.
A lot of new CS Students don't become proficient with their tooling, which just makes them worse overall. You get higher ROI on learning your tooling than you do learning a programming language at a certain stage ๐ https://missing.csail.mit.edu/
^^ thats a good course on this kinda stuff
And sure, if the technology had advanced to be more efficient than Vim, we'd be switching -- but there are very few options that are more efficient than Vim
Free Git book https://git-scm.com/book/en/v2
Realistically the only way you're going to get close is if you're using another piece of software that has complicated keybindings that you have to commit to muscle memory -- which is exactly what people are shying away from using things like Nano and most GUI editors
Bee, that is superb, thank you!
wow there is way more to GIT than I knew
It's an incredible tool
Read chapter 10 if you can, it goes into Git internals (called Plumbing & Porcelain) -- you'll learn so much
I have just started to really scratch the surface of it
but I do have to say having the CI/CD with GIT on netlify was kewl, I didn't really have to tell it do updates it just did it
I highly suggest just random github open source work
you'll learn a lot from that
especially homebrew that repo is the absolute worst
if you can contribute 1 small change there no one will ever doubt your Git abilities
took me about ~3 months to get a PR merged after around 40 comments back and forth
the code I committed has a bug in it but I'm too scared to open another PR out of fear of them just bullying me into another 3 month long stint
it's on the list, I just need to get deeper into my coding first
I got 6/10
I'm a cereal killer. I eat Cheerios each day.
oh boy vim upstream is something else
Ouch
That reply
Is that from Bram?
Yup!
I'm reading the Neovim PR
They linked to this PR
where Bram just said, and I quote:
I find this offensive to females.
This deserves some more explanation, I didn't have time for that yesterday.
This pull request pretends to improve gender neutrality, but actually does the opposite. Most obviously, it removes the statement of inclusion, that makes clear Vim was made for everybody.
More subtly, this change infers that using "he" when referring to the user means the user would be male.
This instantly creates a problem, instead of solving it. It teaches people one way of interpreting the English
language in a way that I find offensive. It's like two tribes living happily next to each other until someone
blows up a difference and causes the tribes to go to war.Let it be clear: I am allergic to discrimination and injustice. I might be a bit sensitive about this subject.
I feel offended if people say something bad about text that was written with good intentions.
It seems that being a fork of Vim is causing pain to Neovim, especially as they have to re-base and edit code everytime Vim updates
Although this PR is bad on Neovim's side, but tbf it was 6 years ago https://github.com/neovim/neovim/pull/3610
anyway time for bed
What are folks feelings on learning Python 2? Had a look on codeacademy and they've got python 2 for free but 3 is pro, which is like ยฃ30 per month...
Python 2 is deprecated
If you can afford ยฃ30 per month it's worth it otherwise I would say learn python3 from YouTube a channel named thenewboston
Also check out the #programming channel got a bunch of resources pinned
Thanks guys ๐
@timid peak https://www.youtube.com/user/schafer5
Welcome to my Channel. This channel is focused on creating tutorials and walkthroughs for software developers, programmers, and engineers. We cover topics for all different skill levels, so whether you are a beginner or have many years of experience, this channel will have something for you.
We've already released a wide variety of videos on to...
Best person for learing everything python. Dont cost you anything
Thank you!!
how many people rec'd them
whoever wrote that is in charge of it ๐
you can add to it if ya liike
you're such a dork
its not my fault ๐ฆ
but when you use arch you get supernaturial powers so i can do magical stuff like this
I mean 4,5,6 are roughly what you'd get if you guessed at random
Idk, maybe there is something that makes some pictures look more "criminal" than other ones ?
I got 8
People don't toss a coin to decide
I mainly put the black and white pictures in serial killers
So the average could be different than 5
Yeah, I noticed me doing something like that too. The most colorful ones didn't look like serial killers
Yea
Also the old lady tricked me, maybe old ladies look like .... safer
When I saw her I was like there's no way she's a programmer
See the way they're not smiling with a background of nothing always made me think they were a serial killer
Probably best not to post that here
You have a better eye than me. I was totally fooled by her
oo we studied forensic psych in a level
you can always look at them and look at the background ๐คทโโ๏ธ
@rich oriole I'd have used the room help chat, but yeah there's no good way to find it
You can do grep
Or find and exec/xargs stuff
It's not good
Regex looks ok
I think a find with a -type f and non exec perms with an exec grep might be a bit faster
Not sure about the perms
I remember it taking a few minutes but not hours
@rich oriole try this command grep -r THM 2>/dev/null make sure u run this command on directory u think might have flag and start with THM
Hey people, can you recommend a book on networking for beginners?
Thank you
There's a room that you're sent to immediately on joining tryhackme if that's what you mean?
maybe.. I arrived to the anouncements room...
I just dont want to bother people with my nonsense questions on the wrong room...
As long as you do some research first, don't worry about that
A large chunk of infosec is research. Basic google skills go a really long way.
Yes, i came here directed from the website
I recommend taking a look at the channel names and channel topics (The text up the top in the channels)
Check. Just started my dive into cyber security and im starting from scratch...
I was on the complete beguiner path and came across a huge doubt that i couldnt find a solution.
If it's directly room related, there's #room-hints and #room-help
I'd also recommend verifying yourself with the bot, it gives you a little more trust in the discord
Ok, room-hints, got it.
Whant do you mean as verifying myself with the bot?
!docs verify
Links your THM account to your discord account. Gives you your role level and access to the voice channels and stuff
heyoooooo
after ur done veryfying try to do this
!docs free-path
i am the same person recently removed from telegram group
please tell me why you are removed me
Which Telegram group are you talking about?
whats telegram
It's a messaging platform. And we don't have a official group on there.
its ok
@south anchor TryHackMe does not have an official Telegram group. Whichever group you were removed from is not known to, or endorsed by the company. As such, we aren't able to help you I'm afraid :)
no problem
Remember, when you deploy a machine, it's literally booting up a computer.
is it possible to add another category in the kali linux applications list ?
?
when you click the applications tab on kali linux you get multiple categories like "password attacks" "wireless attacks"... i want to add another one for some other tools
yeah there are some folders in kali where you can add stuff, google would be best bet for how to do that
CyberChef or Ciphey
thanks for checking it out โค๏ธ ๐
yup!!!
your OS decides that tbh
i cant say ๐
if you do
where ciphey
it'll say
oh
when you pip3 install it
it says where the path is
and asks you to run the command
but its in the very long output
so most people dont see it
typical python LMAO
yeah it seems like it ๐
nowadays people rarely build tools exclusively by themselves because of the nature of open sourcing, workflow scripting is huge as everyone works differently
MMM chili
hey guys, I want to explore more advanced concepts of anonymity, after hardening my VM, how can I deploy real life tests to see how secure it is? is there a TryHackMe version where I can safely invite people to try breaking into my own box and reporting what they find? I know this is the concept of bug bounties, but is there a smaller, community version of this?
throw a vulnerability scanner against it and do some manual stuff yourself
Apple crumble, roast chicken
Exciting times! Looks peng, good work
it doesn't come through so well int he photo, but the chicken had super golden and crispy skin
The white and dark meat were both moist and tender, I used Adam Raguesea's method where you score the legs and cook in the oven safe pan for 10mins with the thighs down to help cook the dark meat first
Sounds like the ideal chicken! I'm a fan of spatchcocking a chicken for even cooking but the method you described sounds good, will have a read up on that.
It requires a decent size oven safe pan/skillet, I used my cast iron which was barely big enough
Aye ill have something no doubt I went through a period during first lockdown of acquiring various crockery haha.
A good cast iron is a great buy. If you treat it right, it's like ยฃ15-30 that will last you your whole life. The older stuff has a smoother surface, but the new stuff works ok. The important thing is to properly season it the first time, and keep using it. And avoid using pointy metal things as that will scratch the seasoning
I've considered cast irons a fair but never made the plunge, I do like the idea of having a good pan that I tend to and hopefully keep for a couple decades.
Heat retention n whatnot Is meant to be insane with them too
They're so cheap, compared to a stainless skillet
You can get a very heavy pan for a lot less money, so more thermal mass so more energy stored. Whacking a 500g steak in there won't bring the temp all the way down, that's one of the key advantages
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000PABYNC/?coliid=I1W20VJS4TA2O7&colid=1Q194Y1SX3ZT0&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it This is the one I got, although the wax it comes coated in is a pain
cast iron is (almost) cheaper than dirt
Yeah I'm always wary of loading pans too quick when I'm trying to get a good sear going
I don't think you really have to be if you have a properly hot cast iron.
There might be better ones, this was just one I found on Amazon before christmas
Honestly I'm just gonna ride this impulse
go for it
https://www.seriouseats.com/2016/09/how-to-season-cast-iron-pans-skillets-cookware.html You'll want that link, most likely. Take serious care not to add too much oil, and it's gonna stink your house out
I was just about to ask about the seasoning bit haha thanks!
don't cook it too high either ๐
A lot of the guides say as high as it can go lol
SeriousEats say 240c/450F
You say that, but most places say you do.
guess that means I did it right in uni then
I'm just angry at my dad for using a carving knife and fork to move the chicken out of it, seasoning scratched now.
I had stolen my dad's cast iron skillet, and I think he stole it from his mum
Another secret trick I've heard is fry some onions as the first cook @uneven oak. I don't know why exactly, but it's meant to be great. I loooove slow frying onions in my cast iron, lovely caramelised onions at the end.
hmm
Caramelised onions are good juju - sounds like I'm gonna be having myself a steak n cheese this weekend
mmm
Some cast iron fried onions n hot peppers? Oh lawd
first fry should be something pretty greasy
I use a stainless steel saucepan for onions generally
I regularly cook my bacon in it, to keep it in use.
yesh
Do you cook your bacon on high heat? I've been doing it recently and enjoying the results
you want to avoid acids though
Was always a medium guy prior
Generally very low, to get it crispy
Ah, that said I made Shakshuka and it went well. That was about half an hour for the tomatoes in the pan, even without a fantastic season on it.
About 3-4 weeks of regular use, that much seasoning
America's Test Kitchen had a great tip for bacon, start the pan cold, put in your bacon and pour in enough water to slightly cover the bacon. The boiling water will cook the bacon perfectly, and once evaporated, the fat will go crispy, and not dry out ๐
also heard don't use soap on cast iron
i've had to restore my cast iron due to some not very smart people 4 times now
one day Ill just ball out and go all copper
Don't use real soap, dish soap (dawn etc) is all good. Don't soak. Soap with Lye in is off limits, that's where the saying comes from.
I need to find a new wok
A little bit of soap is indeed fine, maybe not even a pea size amount
fair enough
I'd like one of those wok burners they have in the restaurants
Them big old flamey boys
J Kenji Lopez Alt had a tip for that, if you have a gas hob already
Or a blow torch if you want wok hei. There's an adapter tool for gas burners
yeah, I've got induction though
Or a traditional fire
Love Kenjis videos! Whats the tip?
I think it was removing the top portion of it. I can't remember the name, but it distributes the flame outwards, and evenly
can't have gas in my kitchen, as there's no possibility for an exhaust
I think you can get standalone ones? I remember something about there being something because people were in microapartments and it was magic
Thats interesting, may give that a blast next time I'm making a stir fry. If you never hear from me again, I died in a gas explosion
This thing
Please sign this waiver first
might install a gas hob in the laundry room to use as a summer kitchen
Interesting. My dad got a new cooker a while back, and it actually has a wok burner on it. Faaaaaar too hot to use for most things tho.
He originally posted the tip on his Instagram iirc, you might find it there
Uncle Roger would approve
Haha draining the rice oh my god
I don't have a decent wok, my dad has a weird non stick wok but he mistreats his pans terribly
All this food talk has me hungry
I'm making roasted brussels tonight
Loving the food chat in here folks! I do enjoy pottering around the kitchen when I'm not trying to crack the basic THM rooms lol. Here's a steak I made the other night ๐
oh no
๐
posted a pic of a recent pizza i made ๐
That looks divine. What did you cook it in? It doesn't look like a regular oven special
