I've got a doctor's appointment to determine if I am or not. The test that I've done is a screener test that shows that I'm above the suggestive score, but as DLD can show traits of autism, as it's on the same spectrum, it's unclear. But hey, what one more disability to my already five disabilities!! It doesn't stop me. I'm still me, I still make people laugh, I still want to learn cybersecurity (or bug bounty), and I'm still loved by my friends!!

It depends on what kind of learner you are, imo the rooms on thm work best for me as it’s a hands on experience. If you’re comfortable with long videos that detail things that’s fine too, the issue is that a lot of people tend to get stuck in tutorial hell with YouTube videos

I understand, my learning is all over the place. I am learning the command line through a different class to get more proficient, getting my SQL better and doing THM. I am not an analst yet or don't know the field all that well. I am wondering how far down the rabbit whole is useful for Wire Shark and Nmap. Are these daily dirvers in the profession

If you are willing to stick it out through the videos, I’d recommend a start on fundamentals with practicals like THM, mess about with wireshark and tinker with it for a while. Then dive into the videos so you’ll have an exact path to understand what’s being shown

I know email spoofing itself is trivial if SPF/DKIM/DMARC aren’t locked down, but I’m trying to understand the real “dark web” angle.

How often are attackers actually selling:

• Stolen mailbox access for corporate domains
• Phishing kits or compromised credentials that let them fully send/receive as a domain

Versus just spoofing the “From” header with no real access.

Basically, I want to map the risk: DNS/domain abuse vs full account takeover, and what’s actually being traded or monetized underground these days.

Any insights from recent intel or practical experience would be appreciated.

No, I haven't done any for a while because of painting. I need to get back to it. Also, that report which showed up that I may have autism, that has slightly worried me as I am already get discrimination due to my DLD. But hey-ho, such as life. I am going to talk to the doctor about it at the end of May, and the SLT who wrote the report on Friday.

oh yeah I have to make the appointment as well :) in regards to discrimination... frcak them! People who do this don't one neuron attention spam. I know this is cliche: surround yourself with understanding people. I don't really trust discord communities because predators and such but you can have a look and see if there are local communities.
Actually not a big fan of discord as a platform :/ considering the main purpose, but there are also nice people on it.
Start with easy rooms on thm, to get back in the game :) I have days when all i did was to answer 1 question to keep my strike. That being said, it doesn't mean that I didn't do anything for my personal growth.
And painting is the house is no easy task, so take it easy, no rush

Can anyone tell me what the advantage is of the VM like Kali Linux? I know you can create your own labs and stuff, but i am not nearly that far. I have the feeling i have to get some kinda basic stuff under control first. I am really lost here, kinda hoping someone has had this feeling as well who might tell me where to start out from? I have done a little "overthewire", and some random free rooms at "tryhackme" and lots of video's, but i still feel quite lost. For example, the room i encounter now, "Nmap Live Host Discovery", it seems like a bridge too far. As if, I haven't caught up with some previous knowledge, which they think you should know of by the time you try the room. Anyone? Please help me out

Well, lets say you mess up, break something, install malware etc. In a vm you can just restore snapshot and its back to where it used to be. Its more forgiving then breaking your main system.

Kali isn’t a VM it’s an OS, if you’re asking about VM’s timoo’s message is very helpful. If you’re asking about the OS kali, it’s not recommended for beginners. It’s also advisable to use Kali in a VM where you can perform the work you need to do or any projects you’re interested in and revert back to your main OS.

I thought using the VM also was a way to keep your "normal" pc environment seperated from the "working" environment. This guy on youtube advised to do so, so first like install vmware and start out with kali linux, and always do everything you want in this environment. Proxy is disabled. For disabling Defender I went in and stopped Tamper protection(Unless i am blind there is no "Turn Off Defender" setting). In GPO I have "Turn off Microsoft Defender Antivirus" (Though it has reverted on reboot but not everytime) Turn off real-time protection, and now the GPO to the firewall profiles.

Unfortunately, it's still running lol. I had it disabled. Was able finish the install script. But on the next reboot it was enabled again. The GPO are still in place. The gui shows Real-time and tamper protection are off. But I can still see the service running

Sure but alerting the tech team that you are doing this so they can be prepared for something to potentially go wrong would be more ideal.

Yeah we ask to be notified and will usually sit someone in a call to be there just for this reason. However, lack of documentation, networks being managed by third parties, and general ignorance of how each part of the network talks to the others. There are times when customers have forgotten who is actually going through their firewall. Which is concerning. But sadly common because "bob built this 6 years ago but no longer works here." Or "we bought this plant from another company and no one knows how it works."

It is kind of crazy though. They pay us regardless. So ask us lol that's what I am here for
