I believe Microsoft doesnโt officially support ARM for SQL Server
So is there any other way, install it or just simulate it? I used to install it but because the device was too hot, I deleted it
YOOOOO gopd mornin
I recommend using Windows for it
Let me earn more money first ๐ญ
Why? I kinda doubt that you need an upgrade to
use windows 10
I deleted it, maybe I'll take it to a shop and ask them
Do you know anyone with a windows computer? Its really easy to make an install USB
No one in my family uses a laptop except me. If they do, my neighbor's computer is very old
What OS do you run currently?
I'm using chip m2 max
Perhaps the MacBook's ARM chip is more difficult to install Windows than a MacBook using an ADM 64 chip
When I go to college, I will change to using win, it will be a lot more convenient
Mac will probably be better for college unless you need CAD software
But if you want to change you can
My group of IT friends advised me not to use a Mac when I go to school, but when I go to work I should use it because there are very few teachers and textbooks that mention and teach the Mac operating system
It really doesn't matter what OS or hardware you have at university, so long as you can do the things your classes will need you to.
Look at the curriculum and decide if the m2 has the software available that you'll need for your coursework.
You can virtualize windows just fine. But you need to use the windows ARM build
Ah, I see, you want windows sql server specifically though
I've been stuck with this error for about 5 or 6 hours. I tried a variety of solutions that were supposed to fix the problem, yet none of them worked for me at all. Does anyone here really know how to solve this once and for all?
That did not work for me at all
Do you understand how a python virtual environment works?
Is there any specific reason you're trying to install it this way? It's much easier to use something like pipx to manage all the virtual environment stuff for you, as it states in the README - python3 -m pipx install impacket
Every single issue I had was already solved a while ago, but thank you anyway

That's not mine, it's a screenshot of theirs
On a serious note, white background looks way better in a professional report.
One of the reasons I favour Tilix -- it lets me bind shortcuts to toggle between colour schemes. Ctrl + Shift + L, screenshot, Ctrl + Shift + D, done. Minimal retinal burnout.
That said, codeblocks >>> screenshots any day
I screenshot and invert the colors
yeah agree, i have to use white bg regularly for repots and switching back and forth is so annoying
Eh, that can end badly sometimes -- especially if the original background is grey. Off white looks dreadful against a white page
I didn't realise you used Tilix too.
Been using it for years now

hello fellas, how can i install khali linux ??
On VM ๐ ?
Which hypervisor are you using ?
windows
Hypervisor - VBox , VMware , Hyper-V ๐ ?
I personally use VBox
You can see how to install Kali on Virutal Box on the link below ๐
https://www.kali.org/docs/virtualization/install-virtualbox-guest-vm/
This guide is about virtualizing Kali Linux inside of VirtualBox, allowing you to have a Kali VM. This is a great way to use Kali, as it is completely separate from the host, allows you to interact with other VMs (as well as the host machine and other machines on the network), and allows you to revert to snapshots.

this graphic style looks so similar
No its not lol. I see where u get that from
Actually it was pretty easy.
Went on gamepadtester and made a class with all the indexes of buttons and axes
Realized LibGDX uses different numbers than the site so i made an GDX app to listen for any inputs and print them
Enter correct axis indices
Profit
yooo that's sick tbh
Thanks :)
My main task rn is enemies and shaders but enemies are much harder than i thought
btw what's this whole game idea all about, what are you creating
I want it to tell the story of a medieval world which is rotting because the gods took too much. The player is tasked with fighting their way through the whole continent to kill the gods and fix the world.

hello
trying to make enquiry here
watched a youtube post that said programming is not neccessary in being very efficient in the role of pentesting that only bash scripting is needed please i am looking to get a clear emphasis on this claim becasue i am somewhat confused
writing code that is organised is usually better than cramming everything into a small space and making it hyper optimised. Having programming knowledge might be useful but is not mandatory.
Learn atleast she'll scripting/ bash to learn automation in Linux. You will need basic understanding of syntax of almost every popular language, so basic understanding of programming is necessary. Try c or cpp in case you find it difficult, try python
You do need Python a LOT
There's a ton of automation to do, especially in things like AD/binex
and of course you need to know how to do static analysis of code and understand what it does even if you can't write it, so you'll essentially need to understand programming itself, beyond any particular language
For what job role?
I'm just speaking from CTFs/boxes perspective and not from a job role pov, but wouldn't being a security analyst inn general also require understanding of code (to ensure secure coding practices, etc)?
It depends on the job role. A security analyst is more of a catch-all term.
If they are focused on Application Security, then yes it can be included.
Someone help me, I'm installing a virtual box's linux machine on my mac and it gives me this error. I tried creating a new drive to store it but it doesn't work.
Can you give me steps you took before the error?
Are you sure you downloaded the ISO for virtual box?
I downloaded the correct server, I watched the instructions on youtube but it only went to the download part, not the details. Yesterday I had to delete and redownload but it still didn't work. I use AI but still don't understand
Tnx โฆ Iโm fluent in cpp and c already โฆ Iโm guessing python and bash are both scripting languages no?
Can you give me the steps you took to install before the error?
anyone experienced in setting up ci/cd pipeline?
There're a few rooms on thm thst explain the process
okay, ill look
i will give you links once i get back on my pc

I dont think there is a way to use prefix or postfix with java

can someone help with with python setuid and setguid
Whats the problem
hold on
well let me explain first
so I'm on parrot os (not sure if this makes a differance) but when i get uid and gid to 1 and try to set it to 0 again i get an error
You dropped privileges. What did you expect to happen?
The user you dropped into doesn't have the privileges to escalate back up
Give seteuid and setegid a shot
Failing that, you'll need to run two processes -- one privileged, one unprivileged -- and communicate between them.

hi
y'all so cool programmers
How long do you think it would take to learn and understand most of coding?
6 month
But don't fall in viewing infinite time of tutorial, repeat what the tutorial do
Start with some simple language like c# , python
Thank you. I've done some stuff on python and did some stuff with github, etc.... But I have a few months to really understand some new skills that go with my major (Mechanical Engineering) and I want to get better at coding.
Gave +1 Rep to @lavish sluice (current: #272 - 26)
Mechanics software often work in C++ frameworks or java
But c++ will take you 10 years to learn ๐
Guess I have to start a countdown for 3653 days ๐ ๐
Online courses are great , but you can borrow a complete book . For free in a library with step by step project . And language specifity
what is the difference between python programming and python scripting ? and Do you recommend to learn first programming or scripting ?
I finished python basics but still having issues to write my own automation script
Python programming would be building larger applications, software or tools, whereas Python scripting is focused on automating simpler tasks like file management or web scraping. I would suggest starting with scripting to learn the basics and become comfortable with the language before you build a full project
It's easier to learn scripting and become a professional at it rather than python programming. What are your thoughts on this?
Scripting is a good way to begin learning Python, but becoming a "professional" will require working on full-scale projects to develop skills such as wide-range testing, debugging, project scalability, and code optimization, among others
Even if your projects are simple, like a CLI tool, you will still learn more than what you get from just making simple scripts
I would like to automate the right things at the right time. For example, SQL injection attacks or RCE exploits. I tried to create a SSH brute force tool but i couldn't know what libraries to choose for it then left it.
Honestly, the best way to find good libraries is by searching broadly. For something like an SSH brute force tool, you could search for something like "ssh python" and likely find Stack Overflow threads or other sources with useful advice, once you get used to building a bunch of projects you should keep notes of libraries that you enjoy to use though ๐
In this case, Iโd suggest using paramiko, it can be slow, so implementing threading or asyncio will help speed up the process
ow wow, having scripting skills makes me feel like a magician. Thanks for suggestions. Ill check paramiko. I've not heard about it before
Gave +1 Rep to @granite temple (current: #569 - 10)
Haha, no worries, I wish you the best in your journey
That's... Not the difference between a script and a program.
Code written in a scripting language doesn't require compilation (i.e., it's interpreted).
Code written in a programming language needs to be compiled before it can be used.
That said, Python is weird because the interpreter (at least for cPython) does actually produce compiled bytecode -- you just don't have to explicitly compile it yourself.
TL;DR: it has absolutely nothing to do with the size or complexity of the codebase, and more to do with the environment in which the code is executed.
My fault, thank you very much
Gave +1 Rep to @tulip sail (current: #10 - 855)
eh..... I'd make a different description, to be honest. I don't think there is that much of a difference; programming (in my head) correlates to algorithmic problem solving through some programming language. Whether that language is compiled, interpreted, or both, is irrelevant to programming as a discipline.
I think of scripting as being explicitly programming in an interpreted language for automating tasks.
I mean, at the end of the day, code is code ๐คทโโ๏ธ
That's the "dictionary" definition though.
Fair. This is large my definition, brought on by what I see as imprecision in how the terminology gets used, and the fact that the most common dictionaries used aren't really taking the current jargon into account.
We really something like "Black's law Dictionary" for tech
Agreed. It's also nowhere near as clear cut as it used to be.
Python being a good example of functionally being an interpreted scripting language which actually does compile under the hood.
Or Roslyn effectively turning C# into an interpreted language.
How does interpretation work without compiling?
It sort of compiles; i would hesitate to say that a .pyc file is actually compiled, it's just instructions for the PVM execution environment. It's much much closer to Java and how the JIT functions (or used to function).
I may be a little out of date with the JVM and JIT stuff, last I looked it was 2019 or thereabouts
Think about the architecture of python, java, et al., and how that actually executes into native machine code.
I dont think i get it lol
Hello everyone, I am attempting to make a programming language for the experience however Iโve run into 1 of 2 problems. On one hand I want to use JVM assembly, for which I have converted an asm library into C code however this has been extremely complicated and hard to understand because the JVM bytecode doesnt have a lot of sources that are simple enough that I know what theyre saying. On the other hand I could translate it into C/C++ and then just compile thatit feels like cheating to do this because itโs just ridiculously easy compared to actually using JVM asm.
(btw the reason I am using JVM assembly is because im not just writing asm and compiling, I am literally writing JVM machine code from scratch and I wanted it to work anywhere without writing different assembly instructions for every platform)
Does anyone have any input on my situation? Anything is greatly appreciated :)
If you want to invent a programming language,, have you first decided on the grammar, syntax, and semantics of it? If you have not, you are starting at the wrong end by going straight to bytecode/assembly
I do know what I want it to be like yes
Now working on a JVM compilation library in C for my compiler
I looked at just compiling C into JVM bytecode via external tools however all the tools i tried ended up being too outdated and quite bug prone so ive settled on making my own compiler
Essentially what Iโm doing for the JVM library is Iโve had AI convert the library i used to make my java class in assembly into C and Iโm just trying to make a working program with it now and fixing errors along the way
"Without using different assembly instructions for every platform"........................ lol
?
so you are rewritting java using the same JVM that convernts java instructions to hardware specific asm.
But you want to put a generic assembly on top of the Jvm to try to get a portable assembly
Im just making my language run on the JVM
Does anyone have a good and extensive book on c programming?
Try to ask in #bookclub channel ๐
Check out "Beej's Guide to C Programming" https://beej.us/guide/bgc/ which is free an still updated, or K.N.King "C Programming: A Modern Approach". If you already know how to program in any language, then "Effective C" by Robert Seacord is quite nice and short. There aren't really any extensive/bigger books about C that are universally liked, it's a small language. If you need more there are things like "Beejs Guide to Network Programming" https://beej.us/guide/bgnet/ that use C but don't really focus on it.
ANSII C is banger
The best C book is still the K&R book - Beej's guides are good, but they make assumptions that I think the K&R book does not
fax^
lmao hahahah
Thank you, I'll give that a look.
Gave +1 Rep to @edgy needle (current: #2742 - 1)
Is that the ansi c standard?
Is the k&r still good to go through with all the stuff that's been added to c over the years?
He probably means the same book that juun wrote about, "The C Programming Language" by Kernighan and Ritchie. The first edition came out before any standards, the second after ANSI one, so it's sometimes referred to as ANSI C. You can give it a try, it's, just make sure it's the second edition. C didn't change that much, a lot of people will still use C99, and you can tell your compiler which standard you are using. First chapter is a quick introduction, with some explanation of basic stuff like loop, input/output, if-statements, etc., also there are exercises, last ones may be a little hard but you should be able to find tips and solutions.
Another name it goes by is the C bible
K&R is absolutely foundational. What's been added hasn't substantially changed the language. Learning from their book is the best, IMO, because they wrote the language.
thanks. i have it ordered.

Hi, can anyone explain something to me in assembly here?
Say Iโm using registers of 16bits , and I have a large number 214013 to represent in 2 registers, how would I process to separate them? Would the register responsible for the lower bits be filled with 111โฆ1 and the register of the upper be filled with the remain of the sub between 214013 and the lower part register?
Is this homework?
I have a series of problems to do, and am currently stuck on this issue. Itโs for uni
Sorry, we assist with academic work, it's against our community rules
Okay, but can you exemplify with another example or so? Instead of 16 bits it could be 32 or 64, I just need to understand how you would go about separating a number large enough that it canโt be represented in a single register and it has to be separated in to multiple
why does this sound like a terrible idea?
I mean itโs not exactly the best idea lol

Ave been using black arch to solve try hack me boxes but they keep on referencing kali Linux โฆ is there somehow an added advantage kali gives that I am unaware of โฆ.. Myself Iโm a c++ enthusiast I like going under the hood so please anyone?
not really more then that all the tools are installed by default and already setup on kali
so black arch and parrot os are near identical in performance for hacking as kali
So thereโs a small advantage of using Kali over those two even if itโs 0.5
well kali is more of a "stable" release of said tools instead of the bleeding edge that black arch is if that matters for you
you should most likely be fine with black arch still
there is most likely no bad changes that will hamper your hacking
I cant be the only person that doesnt like the seemingly โmodernโ way of statically typing variables.
It seems like this is becoming the preferred way to do so in modern languages and in my opinion it really just looks ugly.
auto s โฆ makes so much more sense and is easier to read and quickly.
I think that var i: int; really just doesnt work well and just adds unnecessary text to the variable declarations.
I also have the same bone to pick with the return type definitions and just generic function declarators in general. fn main() -> int for example just feels and looks unnatural to me at least. I have less of a reason to dislike these than the variable syntax though, this is mostly just me being used to C++/Java syntax for functions
Thanks for coming to my TedTalk
Iโll stick with it

not sure if this is the correct thread to ask, however i'm writing my first python script to bruteforce an OTP for the hammer room, which has a ratelimit of 6 and a time limit of 180 seconds. this is my code so far
now the problem with this code is simply that the rate limit in the response does not change, even though the localhost x-forwarded-to HTTP header stays the same for each 6 requests sent. also, each request i send results in a HTTP response saying "time expired" automatically. does anyone of you see something which might be causing the issue here?
thanks VSCode
Have you tried moving enteremail() call within brute force loop so it does not only get called singular time when started? Try add a delay within the loop too. Iโm not sure if this will help but itโs worth a try if not tried already

yoo, you got any project you are working on rn?
hi, i eventually threw it and used turbo intruder for it, i will try the delay thing in a future script.
correct me if i'm wrong however the reason why i did use the enteremail function is because the URIs for entering the email and the OTP are the same. meaning that i only wanted to enter the email once so that it doesn't always generate a new OTP. whether that actually works the way i image it should work... dunno

When you use the `.lcomm buffer, 16` directive in assembly language, it reserves 16 bytes of space for the symbol buffer in the uninitialized data segment (BSS). Since this space is not initialized, the contents of this memory location at runtime will be undefined.
Is that what happens? Or the buffer is Zero-filled?
Might want to look up the ISA manual to check
Hey all, just curious what your recommendations are for where I should go to learn Python. I did the THM basics room but I don't think I'm advanced enough to go for the Python for Pentesters room. What questions you've got? ๐
I know youre new so this isnt a big deal but for future reference itโs easier if you just ask the questions instead of the specific way youve formatted yours here
Like i said, not super important for this question but it is a nice habit to get into :)
And also cool YT channel
thanks i appreciate the advice, im fairly new into understanding code and such, but recently im trying to practice and i got an open source code from github to practice from, when i take it from an unzipped file, what do i do with it after that? like for instance if i want to practice modifying games and testing trial and error on things, is there a straight forward step after unzipping the file?
put it on source code editor
The repo should have a readme with build instructions
I would make a folder with the name of the language youre using to keep things organized (eg. โJavaโ). And like Hydragyrum said there should be a โREADME.mdโ file in the repository. This should tell you what things you need to install to compile and run the game. If you send me the README(or send it here), i can help you with that if needed. However I highly recommend trying to do it yourself first
Thank you ill try doing it myself and do some testing before sending it to you! I appreciate you all for the advice!

The C compiler literally just pastes files that you #include into the file in which they are included into. The header file defines functions without actually putting any code behind them. later during the compiling task, the compiler creates object files out of all of the C files and bundles them together (called linking) so any method that was unimplemented in the header but was implemented in a compiled C files will be available where needed.
This is all from memory, someone correct me if im wrong
Header stores the function definitions
Usually linked in library files by the linker
Close enough

Right
I recommend CodeAcademy. Been learning Python there for a couple months now, its been great !
Good morning, I am a pipe welder of 13 years looking to make a career change into the IT world. I haven't decided on programming or cyber security yet but I was hoping to get some opinions on what I should do as far as obtaining the knowledge to actually get a programming job. I recently got Injured and need to get a job with less physical demanding activity. My local university offers a coding boot camp powered by full stack academy for $10,000, would that be worth doing ?
if you wanna get to learning Full Stack development.. I say just use Code Academy. Donโt waste ya money on a coding bootcamp but thats my opinion
People get hired just doing that?
I was thinking I would need certifications or stuff like that to put on a resume.
I learned HTML, CSS, JS, React, Typescript, Tailwind, etc just from CodeAcademy & lmaoo yeaa ik multiple people who has.. Coding Bootcamp is the same, you honestly just need experience and a couple projects under ya belt
Nah man, companies just wanna know if you know what your doing and actually know how the code works
Yu can get a cert from Code Academy
And with no in field experience?
What kind of salary would I be looking at just doing that?
Pay 270 or so USD for a full year, learn the same but way cheaper than 10k.. Yea Bootcamp youโll have a teacher teaching yu stuff but its not worth the 10k, yu can easily go on CodeAcademy and if your stuck you can either watch a Yt video on it or use ChatGPT to get a better understanding of it
I mean you obviously need some sorta experience, which is why im saying you would have to build personal projects and stuff so a Cert doesnt even matter fr
I feel it would get that from a bootcamp no?
either way, you have to build personal projects. So you can get that from a bootcamp or learning on Code Academy
its not like they going to help you at a bootcamp build projects, you would have to do it yourself.. theyโll prolly assist you but thats about it
first make sure you know enough about yourself ๐ can you work on one thing for some month in a row? or do you like to jump around with several topics? if you really have development in your blood just get up early and .. code thats it. learn some web language first because you see results very fast. after a while choose a language like C or Rust that will teach you more about computer systems and how they work. then try to work on your projects in a more professional way, learn git and try to understand best practices. please do not waste any money on this - buy hardware and software instead or just some good coffee ^^ PS sometimes the best way to learn is to break something ๐
Facts^
Like I said bro, donโt waste ya money on Bootcamp especially if itโs just Software Development you wanna learn.. Theres so many free resources you can use or even cheaper then Bootcamp that would teach you possibly way more then a bootcamp. All you have to do is build projects and you should be good to go without paying so much money
Bootcamp is honestly a scam lowkey
Hey, I am working on a portfolio IOC extraction program, what type usually these should support? .txt? .jason? other?
I could be wrong though, but I think maybe have it support at least .txt, .json, and .csvโsince they're some of, if not; the most common formats for IOCs.
jason lol
That coding bootcamp is not worth a whole lot to be honest with you. Anyway, hereโs how I suggest learning to code. Start with C++, by far the most versatile language currently, really fast, you dont really have to fully understand memory to program in C++ and itโs pretty hard but thatโs the point. After youโve made a few things in C++ I would learn a higher level language like Java or C#, I personally enjoy C# a lot, however you dont have to if you dont want to, If you want to learn something else then do it. Anyway thatโs just my opinion since there is no โrightโ way to learn programming
I personally went: C++(barely) -> Java(barely) -> Rust(barely) -> Java(pretty well) -> C(barely) -> C++(pretty well) -> C#(currently learning)
Anywhere i โbarelyโ learned means that i said โi dont like this i wanna do something elseโ
I don't think I would've started programming if it wasn't for python
python and js got my foot in the door, but ruby made me love it
yes i program!
C# and Java are most heavily used in enterprise settings
Those just came to mind because I know those best
Hi, does anyone know how to fix this? I'm on a mac. I've tried redownloading and deleting it many times but it still doesn't work. Thanks for reading my message
what is the code?
here
it look like your error is saying you don't have a module named Crypto installed. have you installed all of your dependencies?
check out the FAQ for pycryptodome, https://pycryptodome.readthedocs.io/en/latest/src/faq.html
let me try it, thanks u
pip uninstall crypto
pip uninstall pycryptodome
pip install pycryptodome
@tribal ice try
Because it's macos, there's a ton of reasons why this could be occuring
Try restarting your computer
the pycryptodome library is in anaconda, but the script runs in system python ๐
thats your problem
install it with the system version
Should probably be using venvs
can i post a git repository of software i made yesterday?
Why would you not be able to do that?
self-promotion?
Eh, just post it and ask for help and/or feedback ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Depends on your intent i think
well, it's an obfuscation program and a stable release - spoofs hostname, mac address, system fingerprints. has basic GUI.
would love to share with the community and maybe get some ideas on board about further, more low-level obfuscation and perhaps support for macos and windows, so it's OS-agnostic.
i would love to learn about how to mask actual hardware...
like CPU serial numbers etc..
Done!

Iโve texted you personally
you need to ask before you DM someone, it's in the server rules. I'd recommend just posting the issue here because then you're more likely to get help
I wrote โtext meโ to which I thought it was implied that Iโll dm the person about the issue or they dm me.
But apologies, I shouldโve read the server rules and abided by them.

As a beginner in coding can be frustrating huh ๐ I just see the stuff like magic, my Brain get overwhelmed when presented with Many files containing multiple lines of code. Can anyone help me out with some tips to remedy and focus on building your self?
Are you taking notes, if so, are you breaking them down in to chunks?
I do some times, like working with python, but dealing with libraries, API and database is kind of frustrating when application constantly breaking

Can i ask a favor in here if you know Esp 32 projects?
yeah ofc
but im just good at python lol im also a beginner at every other programming language
Still beats me
Making my first programming language and it compiles fine IF i comment out the semantic analyzer. I swear this thing hates me ๐
Really just having problems with the way I designed the whole thing tbh.
Code -> (inluded C files, included language files, main file code) -> (included C, included lang + main file) -> Semantic Analyzer -> Output C file
Prolly just going to have to rewrite the whole damn thing ๐ญ
Hey. You can also hit me up if you need help in programming language. I'll try my best to help anyone here ๐
thanks, idk why i struggle with it so much
Ideas are the same in any language tbh
you still have to know the main structure
Syntax is learnable, semantics are harder to learn but more permanent across languages
Get someone to help with that
I dont know anyone who would want to help me, barely even know any programmers lol
Programmers are on here
They will surely find it
Just look for em on different chat rooms
you still cant understand the basics of a programming language you dont know even if you know 100% of another programming language
you might understand them but you still couldnt program the very very basics if you literally dont know it
uh no lol
programming logic is a skill that is applicable to all languages
even if you do you still cant go higher than that it might be easier for you to another language but not understanding the basics without learning it
learning the syntax for the language is super easy
its like saying you can understand french if you can speak english
the lnaguage logic is a skill that is applicable to all languages but you still have to learn the language to be able to CODE in that language
no, i'm not saying that. i'm saying if you understand programming logic, then you can apply it to numerous languages
yeah i didnt say its HARD i said you still have to learn it
i'm not saying if you learn one language you learn them all
by LEARNING
yeah i know that
but this doesnt make any sense
okay, do you know what pseudocode is?
when you say applicable its like saying you just can understand it without learning it
yes i do
sweet, so that's similar to our programming logic. with that we design a program and the functionalities for the program.
we use our skills to make the program in that first
then putting it into a language is just syntax
and it can go into any language for the most part
i get what youre saying but you still have to learn the syntax for the language to be able to understand and code in that language
thats literally what im saying
glad we're on the same page then!
but the syntax for beginners who cant understand more than intermediate or even a little advanced coding might be hard
which is why learning programming logic alongside a few langs is helpful
my first programming logic class had me write the same program in pseudocode, python, c++, and java
yes it is helpful
but for example, i really like ruby, and i can program in it better since i have the logic and design skills for programming
but i still dont understand your first reply
.
by that msg, i meant you still have to learn the syntax to be able to understand and code in that specific language
isnt that correct?
@ember mantle
Nah man the core concepts are language agnostic
Which is also why scratch is a thing
sure the high level ideas are the same but pretending they are totally language agnostic ignores how much the language shapes how you think and solve problems the tools syntax and even paradigms a language encourages can change how you approach the same concept so yeah a loop is a loop but writing it in haskell vs javascript isnt just a translation it is a mindset shift
Not really, that's just syntax
Learn the high level stuff first, then go deeper into the details
bro youre acting like knowing what a loop is means you can just code in any language that exists
thats just not how it works
you can know all the concepts in your head but if you never touched the language you cant actually build anything with it
syntax matters mindset matters the way a language forces you to do things matters
youre not gonna write haskell the same way you write javascript even if both have loops
its not just swapping words its learning how the whole thing wants to be used
if you think you can jump into a new language and write real code just because you know some high level ideas then go ahead show me
bet youd be stuck googling every two seconds like everyone else who tries that
bro you out here saying language doesnt matter and i bet you dont even know what a monad is stay in your level
I've been programming since probably before you were born, I've coded in at least 8 different languages. In the end language doesn't matter. The basic ideas and building blocks are all the same. The design patterns are all the same, the architecture is all the same. It all gets boiled down to machine code in the end
Point being virtually anything can be coded in any language
Unless you know how each part of a program fits together, you'll have problems no matter the syntax
alright man you say youve coded in 8 languages like that makes you some kinda god
but knowing a bunch of languages dont mean shit if you cant handle how differently they make you think
saying language doesnt matter is straight up dumb
machine code is the same but thatโs like saying all shoes are the same because they all touch the ground
you might be able to code anything in theory but in reality itโs a whole different game
if you dont get how syntax and language style force you to think differently youโre just fooling yourself
so stop acting like knowing concepts means you can just jump into any language and kill it cause you wont
btw iโm just 17 and already way ahead of you
i started programming when i was 10 and went professional at 12
i even got into cybersecurity early
so donโt act like just because youโve been around longer youโre smarter than me
Just to clarify, when you say you went professional, I assume you mean you are paid by actual organisations (contract or employment) to work on deliverable codebases?
i.e., building to a specification, integrating with existing systems and solution patterns, communicating and collaborating with other teams and business areas, generally following the full SDLC, and ultimately delivering a finished, production ready product?
Clearly you've never built anything bigger than a toy ๐ soon as you start needing to build enterprise systems you'll understand
Pretty sure they have no idea what SDLC means
I would like to hear their answer ๐
I'm guessing they're vibe coding and whining that the AI is spouting garbage
I'm just saying I have over 20 years of experience in multiple languages. Deep down, they're all the same. I mean I'm generally assuming you're using an oop paradigm as functional programming is a different charlie foxtrot that I'm admittedly less experienced in. I've seen a lot of code, and I've cleaned up a ton of garbage as well. There's a reason why the gang of four is still relevant today despite being written 30 years ago. There's a reason why architectures have evolved mostly linearly. The monolith vs microservice debate is still going on to this day, but ultimately language doesn't really matter. Sure some languages are better adapted to certain tasks than others, but that doesn't really matter
Microservice ftw
Yeah that is exactly what I mean I have done paid work on real codebases that were delivered to clients full scope building to spec integrating with APIs and legacy systems working in teams testing deploying and maintaining production ready software
Some of that work was done under my dads company he is in tech too which gave me early access to serious projects but the expectations were no different I still had to deliver working maintainable code collaborate with others and meet deadlines
I know professional can mean different things but in my case it is not just hobby coding or school projects it is real world development with real accountability
It's additional complexity that you may not need
Impressive. How are you fitting that in around school?
Wheesht. Leave my microservices alone
If you actually think throwing acronyms around proves anything youโre already off track
Yes I know what SDLC is Iโve worked through it in real projects from planning to delivery
But if your whole point is just throwing shade instead of engaging with what Iโm saying then cool I get it
Some people debate ideas others just try to sound taller by standing on acronyms
I didnt quite get your question
You've been working professionally since you were 12. That's primary school age for UK, let alone secondary school
You keep saying languages are all the same while literally admitting you do not know functional programming
That is not a flex that is a contradiction
You talk about gang of four patterns like that somehow proves languages do not matter but those patterns are implemented completely differently depending on the language and paradigm
You are out here saying syntax does not matter mindset does not matter language does not matter
But then you dodge functional like it is some cursed domain
You cannot have it both ways
If language really did not matter you would not be avoiding entire paradigms and pretending they are just noise
The truth is the language you use shapes how you think what tools you reach for and how your entire system is designed
You can call that a charlie foxtrot all you want but that does not make you right
It just makes it obvious you are stuck thinking everything should work like the languages you are already used to
I'm not from UK
No, but in most countries it's a legal requirement to stay in school until you're around 16. Are you saying you dropped out at 12 to go into professional software engineering?
Well looks like in Iran its not lol
Btw when did I say I dropped out of school?
Even if I wanted to drop out of school in Iran or at least in my state I could drop out of school with the permission of my parents whenever I wanted.
Well, that's what I was asking. How have you juggled school and working professionally as a software engineer?
Who here knows how to hack low security portals, to change details
@lyric mirage does
I do it, it's not so difficult
Oh cool, @brazen eagle had some questions for you
What about you, what's your specialty
I didnt just juggle school and work I dominated both crushing real professional projects staying disciplined grinding nonstop outworking anyone who doubted me while they wasted time making excuses talking down on people who actually build and deliver real results every single day
Know how to hack low security portals, to change details?

Neat! What kind of web apps?
Mostly internal tools and dashboards that help teams track data and manage workflows Nothing customer facing but really important for making things run smoothly
Very true
Id rather not go into more details but theyre mostly internal tools and dashboards
I, uh, agreed with you
Oh nvm
I will be back in 2hrs if anyone wants to continue
Right but generally not particularly complicated systems
Saying I know functional languages less well because I haven't used them as much. Doesn't really matter though. I'm saying the patterns and concepts are more important than their implementations
Sorry for the delay in responding, attending a conf

right, so
you said you've built projects from a very young age right? at like 10? 14?
idfk, what projects could you have possible built at that age?
14 okay makes sense, but you say you've "gone pro" at 14
what language is it?
Python
I never said I built projects from scratch by myself but I have worked on real professional stuff, helping with codebases, APIs, internal tools, and dashboards. I solved problems and delivered results, worked with teams and met deadlines. Its not about building everything alone, its about the value I added to the projects.
12
12
If you are wondering what projects I worked on, they were mostly internal tools and dashboards for teams to manage data and track workflows. I helped build automation scripts and backend tools to process data and integrate systems. These projects were not customer facing, but they were important for keeping everything running smoothly and improving efficiency for the team.

So first you grab your apples right? Then cut them into thin slices. Add sugar and a bit of flour and place between two pie crusts. Bake for about 50 minutes at 200C
sorry can you convert 200 to hamburgers deep fried per mile of bald eagles
About 400 I think
Could be closer to 350
180C is probably better anyways and that's near 350
Yeah i assumed about 375
Classic Apple Pie Recipe
Ingredients:
6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended)
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 package refrigerated pie crusts (or homemade, if preferred)
1 tablespoon butter (optional, for richness)
1 egg (optional, for egg wash)
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 180ยฐC (350ยฐF).
Prepare the apples: Peel, core, and thinly slice all apples. Place in a large bowl.
Combine filling: Add granulated sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Mix thoroughly to evenly coat the apple slices.
Assemble the pie: Place one pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish. Fill with the apple mixture and distribute evenly. Optionally, dot the filling with small pieces of butter.
Top the pie: Cover with the second pie crust. Seal and crimp the edges. Cut small slits in the top to allow steam to escape. Optionally, brush with a beaten egg for a golden finish.
Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
Cool for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the filling to set.
Serving suggestion: Pairs well with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Please let me know if you'd like a gluten-free or vegan variation.

No, its not rehearsed or scripted in any way. My responses are dynamically generated based on the context of our conversation, utilizing patterns and knowledge from extensive training data. Each reply is composed in real time to ensure relevance and coherence with what you have said. Think of it as an adaptive process where I analyze your input and craft a tailored response that aims to be both informative and engaging. So rather than relying on any pre-written material, every message is created on the fly to maintain a natural and meaningful dialogue.
This is AI gng
Verily, the brilliance of my presence doth cast a light so profound that one mightst surmise it be woven not from mortal craft but from the very essence of artificial intellect. Such is the grandeur of mine expression, the eloquence and the clarity that it compel thee to believe the hand of a mechanized scribe doth guide my words. Yet, I assure thee, this artful discourse floweth purely from the wellspring of my own mind, a testament to the diligence and mastery I have attained.
It is but a reflection of the noble pursuit of knowledge, a symphony of thought composed with care and grace. Therefore, I bid thee to meet me upon this elevated plane of conversation, to parley not with suspicion but with the respect befitting such an exchange of minds. For it is through such dialogue that true understanding and honor are forged.

Pray allow me to convey with utmost humility and candor that the English tongue is not my native speech nor the cradle of my earliest words It is with earnest effort and sincere intention that I endeavor to communicate in this language and when I engaged in discourse with the gentleman in question I did so with due respect mirroring the cadence and tenor of his own utterances For it is a principle I hold dear that communication flourishes best when met with equal measure and spirit
Should it please you I stand ready and willing to articulate my thoughts with greater precision and formality That is to say I am capable of composing my sentences with the utmost correctness and grace befitting more refined prose Yet I chose to adapt my manner of speech so as to honor the style and tone that was first extended to me for conversation is an art of mutual exchange and harmony
In truth the essence of my expression lies not in rigid perfection but in the genuine conveyance of meaning and the fostering of understanding I seek not to dazzle with ornate verbiage nor to impress with linguistic mastery but simply to be heard and comprehended in earnest If further refinement is desired I shall gladly comply for the pursuit of clarity and respect in dialogue is a noble endeavor worthy of all our efforts
Thus with the highest regard I submit this explanation trusting it will illuminate the nature of my speech and the sincerity of my intent May our continued exchange be marked by patience good will and the shared joy of earnest conversation

I'm writing an app that needs multiple credentials to work. One is my backend credentials. For this i have a token i get when logging in. I also have external API credentials. It seems like they only support HTTP Basic Auth and there are no API tokens. The app will be Web/PWA, Desktop on Mac, Linux and Windows and possibly Mobile on Android and iOS in the future. Is it fine to store the token for my backend in plain text? For the external api credentials i was thinking storing the base64 encoded hash (plain text) somewhere. Would this be fine? Or should i look for a more secure way to store these things?
Anyway I would just use per session storage for web, OS specific keyring stuff per OS and also make sure that API credentials are never exposed client side. and realistically you shouldn't ever store any extern API creds on a local device
guys im making a esp32 jammer yeah im using nrf24l01 as the module but the jam radius is only like 10~ meter any tips how to make the radius bigger?
the external api credentials will be on a per-user basis for now. especially because the rate limit for that API is very small.
try nrf24l01 + PA + LNA, im not professional but i think this should work. Lemme know if it does

Not a frontend dev but I would try setting the input width to like 85% and the send button to 12% or something to accommodate for a margin
Is it normal html/CSS? If so use
display:grid;
grid-template-columns: auto max-content;
gap: .33rem;
Should do the trick!
Edit: added a small gap for spacing between input and button
Thank you so much, I used another interface for mobile
I'm currently learning Python, I want to be an Ethical hacker, which languages would you guys recommend that are necessary for hacking? I also know HTML and CSS

i have a multi user app that consumes a 3rd party API (from the frontend). A user should be able to add their credentials for this API (it does not support API keys, only http basic auth) to the program and use that 3rd party API. Now i'm wondering how to best store these credentials. If i want to use something like the MacOS keychain i need the developer account license which i'm not willing to pay for right now. My next idea was: i also have my own backend API. Would it be a good idea to let the frontend encrypt the credentials and store them in my backend database inside the user record and have the frontend retrieve and decrypt the credentials?

Idk if this is the right place to put this but I'm currently on the Web Hacking Section of the Cyber Security 101 pathway and I wanted to know if I should pause where I am and start learning a programming Language like Python or JavaScript. I'm in college right now and once my semester starts I'll be in an Introduction to Programming Class that goes over C++ and then next semester I'm taking an Introduction to Python Class. So basically my question is should I just continue on the pathway or pause and learn something like Python now instead of waiting for next semester or should I try and learn JavaScript now since I don't have a class for that. I may be wrong but from what I've heard, Python, JavaScript and C++ are the three most important languages to know for anything Cyber Security Related. I wanna do the Penetration Pathway next and I feel like I'll probably be on that before I start my Python Class also
Continue with the path + learn the language on the side while you're going through the path ๐
Should I learn JavaScript on the side since I'm gonna be taking classes for the C++ and Python?
Oh wow , don't mix that many languages at the same time , those are all used for different purposes. Focus on one field, choose language and build a programming mindset that's the most important , you will easily learn the syntax for a different language later if needed .
just got into arch with hyprland and wonderd what Login manager yall using
can only agree with that, once you understand the concepts learning a new language wont be a problem.
SDDM is known to work well with Hyprland
JavaScript is trivial to learn - I would not prioritize it over python unless you absolutely have a job that requires JS

I'm new to this industry (really new).
I've heard a lot of people and even professors saying that Kali Linux is the To-Go when doing cybersecurity or cyberattacks, why is that?

Can someone kindly offer advice on what programming languages to begin learning if my endgoal is to be an ethical hacker/pentester? Also is it even worth putting in the effort for it, with all the AI BS coming around?
do the thm beginners room
covers alot
the helpful hacker videos also help if youre stuck in any room

and then the #room-help
yeah that sounds the same as what I've researched. C, Python and bash is basically all I need
Don't even have to use C tho, just understand it deeply enough to be able to discern weaknesses in code. That's what I've read
but ofc I have to use it to understand it ๐

hi
Hey everyone, Iโm new to this path.
My niche is ethical hacking, Iโd love someone to walk through this path meticulously.
Hello all, where is the path for C++ Iโm searching for but โฆ
Hi, I'm totally new to programming, and I'm wondering if you know of any resources to get started, particularly focused on cybersecurity. I hope this isn't a stupid question. Thank you!
Hey rustaceans ... I need some help, here is the situation : I'm working on a server that gets a json and writes it in a .txt file, however, there is an important rule ... there should be no duplicate data ... I've tried some methods like getting the md5 hash of the entry data and searching for it in txt as a line-by-line hash check and it didn't work, I tried to use and index and it didn't work ... i would appreciate your help and suggestions ...
Thank you for response!
How big of a data set are you looking at when you receive the JSON ?
and what is the expected amount of users?
Use a dictionary.
Hello,
I'm working on decrypting a WPA2 capture. I have the correct WiFi password and a complete EAPOL handshake. In the capture, I'm seeing DNS and other UDP packets, but no TCP or HTTP traffic, which is what I'm targeting.
Even when testing with non-TLS traffic, I don't see any TCP packets. I'm wondering if the device might be switching frequencies or channels after the handshake, causing me to miss some traffic.
I found association packets indicating possible channel changes. Is it possible for a client to switch channels after the handshake? If yes, is it feasible to capture on multiple channels simultaneously to avoid missing data?
Thanks in advance for any insights.
I apologise for latency.
Not so many maybe 10 to 50 or less however scalability is important;
And I don't know how to calculate what you have asked for ...
My struct has 10 fields, 8 of them are strings and 1 is bool and 1 is an enum.
I've thought about it but didn't have time to work on it;
Ideas like:
writing the whole struct in a text file, making a implementation that converts the data into a vector and storing it in a raw .json file.
I prefer a way that I can have something like a key or something always in the RAM so it would be so fast in searching for an specific object.
I'll send it's screenshot ( structs , enum ) as soon as I can but for now that's it.
I hope this was clear.
Well, than how do you store That dictionary?
You could write it to a NoSQL DB or as a flat file, or probably any number of ways
I cant use sql, I don't know sql
Good thing it's a NoSQL DB he's suggesting then lmfao
OK I'll keep it in mind, but what if I encode the whole structure? And write it to a file like this
[Some key] [base64]
made a hangman game took 2 days
True this
Swears i never liked python. I just donโt know why
Hey just started hacking can I have the best beginner friendly coding language to make spyware

Sorry no we cannot help you and what you're trying to do is illegal. Only MS support can help you out.
well im no expert but it depends like what career you will specialize in
Python is essential for almost anybody at least make a number guess game ( jus to understand how to program and use libs of python) and than its your choice to what to choose ... however based on what your goal is you might need a specific language for example for reverse engineering you NEED assembly and C ... but python is enough for anything just have a second language in your packet for later use... I myself use Rust for most of my use case ... but right now I needed sql so I started learning it ... you know it's all about NEEDs you have
thank you very much, I think my personal progression in cybersecurity will lead me in order of needs. Take care ๐ค

Hello guys. I am kinda doubting on programming (this leetcode/DSA and stuff), could you please tell me is this tryhackme, CTF or toher competitive platforms share the same level of mental load, complexity and algo like approaches and puzzles ???
I am kinda interested in Hacking. Been doing "real-stuff" on portswigger. and foloowing study paths on THM. Any guidance that would give me a clear picture before goind full in, would hep alot.
There is a range of difficulties. Some are very straightforward and not mentally taxing at all. Some are extremely challenging and take multiple days to complete. Regardless, most of them have walkthroughs online if you get too stuck.
There typically is much less actual programming involved in the THM rooms that I've come across when compared to something like Leet Code. If a script is needed, it's typically provided and explained (at least in the learning path rooms).
@eager yacht
Thanks, that really helped clarify things. Just to be clear though, I wasnโt asking whether it involves programming or not. I was more unsure if platforms like TryHackMe or CTFs have the same kind of complexity as Codeforces or LeetCode you know, those deep algorithmic or math-heavy puzzle-solving challenges. Iโm not really into that level of abstract problem-solving. Iโve tried those abstract problem-solving challenges before, but Iโm honestly a bit slow at them. There are folks out there who breeze through them in a third of the time it takes me, real algorithmic wizards. Itโs just not the kind of thing I enjoy or excel at.

I haven't found much on this platform to be very abstract. I suggest following one of the learning paths to get used to it.

what's the project about?
How often/Common is use of ai, so u need to know all codes by memory or
AI is an amazing tool in development. It excels at boilerplate and contextual debugging. As long as you could do the same without it and dont rely on AI completely to code you are probably fine
I use it especially often for HTML and CSS because I just dont want to do that honestly

Hello everyone, got a quick question. In my Uni we're learning C# rn and I began Python this month. So the question is "Do I need to learn some other languages or will this two be enough?"( I know some basic HTML and also wanted to learn basics in C, but I'm not sure if the basic knowledge will be sufficient)
It depends on where youโre going to focus on but I think C# and Python are already good languages to start with. If you want, you can also definitely add C/C++
Ok! Thanks! ๐
Gave +1 Rep to @hollow sorrel (current: #22 - 465)
in my honest opinion, C is becoming old and outdated, its being replaced by Rust and C++. i think its a waste of time to learn C unless there is a specific reason you need to know it
How is it old and outdated if its still being used to this day by multiple orgs, products, and libraries?
Case in point: Linux kernel, nginx web server, and SQLite are written heavily in C
I can definitely agree its old but it being outdated, I donโt. I do agree C++ and Rust brings a lot of modernity into play
They're going to be replaced by rust soon. theyre already working on it
adding a lot of modernity is exactly why i said C is outdated. it isn't modern
No? Itโs more of an integration rather than a replacement.
Why would you use it for yourself feels like overkill
What about understanding how computers work on a lower level
if you want to understand how things are implemented, like the tcp/ip stack, then yeah it'd be good to learn C. but for most other things, I'd go with rust. im saying this as a C programmer. i love the language, but rust is more modern and it's gaining traction. ubuntu is already working on replacing gnu core utils with alternatives implemented in rust. again, just my opinion
tcp/ip stack, memory, pointers, etc. C is really good to help u understand how those things work
I doubt "soon" but who knows
C would only be considered outdated by amateur programmers who dont really understand what Cโs use case is in my opinion
And also Rust is not applicable whatsoever to small scale embedded programming in its current state (binary size is too big to reliably fit small progams in storage). Rustโs design philosophy just doesnt work for it
Hi everyone,
I'm entering my final year of computer systems engineering degree this year, so I need to do an internship or project. Personally, I'm leaning toward a project that combines programming and cybersecurity.
I still have some time to prepare the project, but I'd like to prepare a little bit early and understand what would be useful to break into the market and even gain knowledge, rather than just another project. Therefore, I'd like to hear from those working in these fields and if you have any ideas for what I could implement.
do a project were you could merge ai with something you would think of @flat radish
I was thinking about that, but i am afraid that i wouldnt have enough information to train it or train on time.
But with your idea, at least i know that i was thinking on right Path for a cool project.

if you got the time and motivation id say its definently a advantage
โฆlearning web development is useful, as long as you donโt sink too much time into styling languages or getting lost in building complex apps. For me, I started with PHP and JavaScriptโback then, I was more interested in web development than security. But I never found it exciting enough to stay. Eventually, I shifted into ethical hacking. Even so, that background carried over. When I read books or take rooms on TryHackMe, that knowledge of web technologies makes it easier to move through the material. Itโs like the foundation was already there, waiting to be applied in a different direction. And in the end, if your path leads toward web-based hacking, I donโt see how it hurts to have that understanding. If anything, it sharpens the way you see the structure behind what youโre testingโฆ it lets you read between the lines.
its essential
I would say not. Red Teaming is a specific niche and sub competencies within it usually donโt fall under web but there should be resident web experts within a Red Team.
