I havent yet decided if i want to go for "defender / attacker ". But maybe little bit of both? I read OSCP is the gold standard when it comes to red teaming and some other when it comes to the blue side.

Is it any certifications or path i can do on tryhack me before i get to that to "compete" with those bachelor/master students.? People who do programming can have a solid portfolio with things they had made.

Honestly speaking I don't think anything from tryhack me will get you anything but knowledge, I don't think their certifications are respected by employers, atleast none of the ones I talked to care about it. That being said try hack me has a great path to follow to learn basics and even some more advanced concepts, I would suggest following it and seeing if it fits with you.

In any case, let me double down: Cyber is not an entry level field. A degree itself won't open you many doors with no experience to show for.
I worked my way up from a Helpdesk guy to a system engineer within 13 years, and only started to pursue higher education with 2 bachelors 4 years ago (ended last year).
I got a job in the public sector, and the main drive was my experience I got from my previous job - mainly the business/project/management/generalist IT skills.
