Hey — the issue is you’re using ls -1 (that’s the number one, not the letter L). That flag just lists items one per line, it doesn’t show permissions.

If you want to see permissions, use:
ls -l myfile

That’ll give you the full details like -rw-r--r--.

For directories:
ls -ld important

That way you see the folder’s permissions instead of its contents 👍
