conquer the fundamentals first. once you are solid on operating systems, networking, and a little bit of scripting, i would follow whatever path appeals to you (offensive or defensive). just follow what interests you and talk about it and/or post about it and put it on your resume and/or linkedin. it'll be better for you in the long run if you follow your interests so you don't make a ton of progress with stuff that you hate.

ultimately, the only things that will catch eyeballs are things like you rank (top X%), or pathway completion certs. but the pathways certs aren't recognized so probably not many points there. Focus on getting your CompTIA Security+ so you can prove baseline knowledge with a reputable, long-standing vendor. Then, go for something like HTB CPTS via their Academy path, or maybe get a blue team cert (if you want to go defensive) like Blue Team Level 1. Not sure if that one's still good, but was popular a while back.

Does anyone know if there is a guaranteed way to escalate privileges on linux with the disk group?

The main method I've seen is reading any file with debugfs, such as: roots ssh keys, /etc/shadow and cracking the hashes, but no guaranteed root.

I've tried changing file data and inode permissions, but none of them actually affect the system. I believe it's because of the cache not being updated due to debugfs working at such a low level. I've tried clearing the cache but you need root for it.

When attempting to edit inode file permissions directly through debugfs commands, the changes do not persist, here is an example command: set_inode_field /home/user/bashCpy mode 0104777

I think you are misunderstanding me, I'm not saying a guaranteed method on any system to get root no matter what, I am saying a guaranteed method to get root if the user is in the disk group. The user being in the disk group is insecure and can lead to priv esc, but I was asking if there is a method to get priv esc with disk group every time
