So . short version, you CAN probably take the physical hardware, and make it do things it wasn't supposed to. But the bad news. IT will require speciailized tools to open the device replace components, program those compnents , compile the new operating firmware (if the source is even available). Things have just changed sooooo much over the years that even I can't keep up with everything these days. I'm going through the Junior Pentester track and still learning new stuff. I think younger generations think you need to know everything before you will be good at something and get stuck in this vicisious cycle of degrees and certifications.
