We as in my experience have the WAF in front of a CDN so you can drop malicious packets asap without overloading the network.

Having a WAF before load balancer kinda defeats the point of the latter one. Even if after the check traffic is diverted to all different servers, it still will be at some point hoarded in the one running WAF which will cause delays

Also, worst case scenario with load balancer is that it starts redirecting to not the place we want it, which imho could be not too difficult to spot

Also, once WAF is down in that case, we have a whole web app not working as well

In modern setups, the WAF isn’t “one box hoarding traffic” it’s typically edge-distributed (CDN WAF) or a managed, horizontally scalable service attached to the LB. Putting the WAF in front doesn’t defeat load balancing; it filters requests before they fan out, which actually protects the LB and backends. If a WAF going down takes the whole app with it, that’s a deployment flaw (no HA, no fail-open/controlled bypass), not an argument for placing it after the LB.

I'm still writing it out, it's gonna parse rules via regex on a rules.conf file. So far it's able to a) detect if a log file exists, b) exit with error if permissions no bueno, and c) connect to discord via webhook

that's actually the point tbh. I want it to be a quick way to sort thru data like what host reported it, IP, service, ruleset, tags, and priority level. That way it'll be easy to awk thru too, rather than having to use some sort of actual SIEM syntax

i'm thinking of having it where it can be config'd so anything past a certain priority level (or with certain tags) will go to the discord webhook for general alert, while everything generally gets logged in a local spool file

i.e. critical alerts like user logins especially.

Ok do you use Windows and if so go ceack in the host wich is the one that you run the VM on what are is the display resolution e.g. 2560x1440

1. did you install the etentions packs
2. Did you try changing them in the display if you dont have the option 1920x1080 i will show you how to make a custum one

But some times it wont work if the host and the vm resolution dont match and it will cause white banners so you need to make a custom one in powershell
