If you can build a calculator from scratch and know the concept of programming, you are able to create custom scripts used in hacking. If you can build custom scripts, without relying in AI and you understand your creation from the ground up then you're capable of advancing your skillsets even further.

Im not there yet at doing a calculator And writing hacking scripts, but i can actually write my own scripts with what i learned. When i use ai when i cant, it just gives a solution that is way easier and simpler than the output i would have had using my scripts if that was done.

There will be a comparison of course if AI gives you the solution that is much more effective than the script you wrote. It's okay. You are learning. That is why you need to learn the fundamentals first. Learn networking, how operating systems work, the infrastructure of an OS. TCP/IP concept. Build something small - a calculator. It builds your confidence. If 2+3 = 5 then you know you're on the right path.

There are some intricacies with multiprocessing that I wish Python would better address, but I'd rather stick with Py and deal with those minor issues just for the sake of maintainability down the line

I've been doing this for years --- I still do research and read documentation. Nobody is expecting you to know every single nuance of a language off the back of your hand, but you should know how a language works and how to do the research

in school when I was in a cpp class, they taught things but I feel like I wasn't really learning as much as I could've. so i made a side project that used just about everything they taught + more.

it wasn't really too crazy, just a program that parsed data from winning lottery records and compared/evaled to see what results for a choice of numbers of a year would've been. but I still had to design a system for tracking the various ways someone could win + how those ways were combined in accordance with the rules

I agree, but that's just the state of things in 2026. A lot of people are learning Python without ever even touching lower level languages. I do believe it causes some fundamental issues in regards to their understanding of system interaction and whatnot, but the options are still 1. larger candidate pool or 2. much smaller candidate pool or 3. pay to train and lose productive time

Well, PT1 wasn't hard for me at all – I only took almost 3 hours to finish everything. But the most impressive part for me was the netsec section, it was actually pretty fun and interesting. The rest, including web and AD, felt pretty average/normal to me. And the thing that really saved points was the report part – it's kinda ridiculous but super convenient because they have pre-made selections where you can just choose the vulnerabilities you found.
