if you use OpenVPN then you use your system as the "AttackBox" as they're limited to 1 hour daily

Imho it's best to learn by practice - get linux on a Virtual Machine, do THM rooms about linux so you understand stuff like how filesystem works, what are permissions and overall get comfy in the OS.

Also, I recommend doing THM challenges on your own machine, not attackbox. Much more fun and you learn a lot

That's not how that works.

To use the VPN, you need to put it on a VM loaded with Kali or another flavour of Linux that has all your tools on it. You will not get the hosted attackbox unless you are a subscriber

ClickFix, also known as fake CAPTCHA attacks rely on social engineering the user into pressing Win+R and pasting a “verification” command into the Run dialog box in Windows.

To confirm whether code was actually entered and executed into Run Dialog, you can check Run history in the registry:

NTUSER.dat\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RunMRU. Review the most recent entry. If they followed the prompt, you will typically see something like PowerShell, cmd, mshta, rundll32, or a base64 encoded one liner recorded there.

If you are logged in as the user: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RunMRU.

If you are inspecting another profile, load NTUSER.dat and check:
HKU\<SID>\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RunMRU

This is very useful because it shows what was entered, not just what was clicked in the browser. The MRUList string also tells you the order in which they were entered!
