Hi There,
Is anyone posting the setup here for AOC25 ?
@sturdy sequoia They gave back my sub after 7 days but no comp ๐
really? whys that?
I had 10 months sub left and got the BF deal and canceled it, but they took all months.
I got it back yesterday.
i mean why didnt they compensate you?
They should be happy for the oldies and just add 2-3 years
I have no idea ๐ But I did get a sorry
@sturdy sequoia Did you have a good day?
well at least youre back. still morning for me but so far its alright
gave up on the side quest. back to working on my projects
I have been offline for a week but back now
why doing the advent
cause fun?
did you know that you can have linux kernel and terminal inside the windows? ๐คฏ
yeah
wsl
Hey Math, I saw a nother GAZA tag in the spanish/english learning server
keep learning and try again next year
what is the fun in not being able to understand the whole scale of IT
Dunno for me so far, I've done a lot of theory
but 0 practice and when I have to do something ,I'm 100% lost
AoC is very walkthrough-like, you just have to follow what's written for each days task and do what they say
especially if we have to simulate real cenarios, real life hackers, real life attacks etc
only side quests require more
AOC is for newbies
well thats obviously why you dont understand how its fun
if you can't follow the directions in the AOC and complete it, you may want to rethink career choices
there is no career choice @dark wolf
if u wanna you can add me and I can help you find your footing tomorrow, we can do an AoC day on call together and we'll see what's the issue exactly
i'm 27 and have a very bad financial life
never been able to hold a job more then 2 months in my entire life
so for me working or being stable is impossible
so there you go
so did i at 27, now I'm well off, but that not holding down a job not me ... i hold down jobs till i don't want them anymore
you get distracted a lot? brain running around in circles?
ever looked into ADHD?
in a formal education in Europe
and all the teachers talk talk talk about Informatics and cyber
but 0 practice
0 Cloud , 0 VM, how to do the VM, how to connect the system ?
etc
THM will give you a lot of practice
we don't do practical things
and that is scarry considering how fast AI grows
we will be easily replaced
easily replaced if not the best
or among the best coders/ hackers etc
oh god here we go
I'll only be replaced when I choose to retire
And I choose when I retire LOL I'm Gen-X
I already payed 40 $
Neither Gen-Z or Gen-A are a threat to my knowledge bwbahahahahahha
gang gang!
AI will not be replacing entire cyber sec teams anytime soon lol
are you doing it daily?
but at some point, when the company asks me , what is that , what can you do practically
i'm lost
I will test Copilot security next week, see what it can offer
are youuu taking notes?
because in theory right now, I'm not really sure what to do, how to secure , what to secure etc
ohhh if you get notes I'd love to see them!
I do have a notebook yea
copilot security sounds like an oxymoron
Well my collegues have some background in IT, like hmm they got a bachelor's in computer science
and are you studying those notes or just writing info down? are you copying info word by word?
Life is life, nanananan
my bachelor has nothing to do with IT
i did business administration
which is only economic theory
no IT, no computers ,no data science , nothing
we only did excel and word
Security Copilot is now a part of E5
@velvet gull I'm doing a master programme which requires some basis of computer science and programming
which I don't have and never had
cybersecurity requires you to have some basics
for example, how systems work, or how does a server work etc
and how all those things connected work etc
How did you end up doing a master not knowing those things
I just got accepted @narrow yew
But prior studies before seeking a master
You don't need to have the same bachelor's , to do a master's in other field
you can always do different majors
Are passwords stored in a sql database?
What made you choose it then?
there may be in .config
I got a fido key
or awful misconfiguration
And yes I have ADHD
Are the passwords hashed?
my passwords are stored in my mind
and very bad memeory, like even drawing is a problem
if you're in this field for the money then you won't get far, this is a constantly evolving place where your learning never ends
sometimes
and most rich people i met, also hated their jobs
I didnโt know that and it blows my mind
I LOVE my job
What are those people hating jobs
I just started doing cybersecurity from 15 october
almost 2 months
but even know , understanding what a IP is , and what are the protocols
how many protocols
I'm still lost in space
even after reading the same definitions, computers make no sense
why ?
because humans explain these things in so many ways that makes my mind fucked
That is all Networking, there is a whole other career path in Networking
oh you had a lot of caffeine
Bcs your brain need time
Sorry for the direct question but considering that you have admitted being diagnosed with ADHD, are you currently medicated @merry saddle?
Security takes at least 2 years to learn and that's if you are dedicated
if no one responds how big can his wall of text be
Give it some time
Typical adhd brain tbh
talk to gen-x and older people like me then
Drugs won't help
So.. No meds?
ADHD drugs , increase anxiety which makes you suicidal or increase fear
we all know that
at least most know that
Yeah and without adhd meds you can't really focus or learn anything
Oh you mean the American style โdrugsโ ok
That's why the mix of meds + therapy is recommended
Seems like you have it all figured out
answers to anything but no knowledge at all of the subject
just things you read or heard
No , what I hate about IT is that
Its medicines or pharmaceutical products mate , drugs or drug store in Europe is the illegal staff
I prefer doing 1 thing
I don't want to learn about EVERYTHING
i just wanna learn 1 piece
i have interwiev tommorow
that's what is pisisng me off about cyber
cause they say, you need to know a little about everything
Ngl you don't have to understand everything 100% at once, when i started i do remember myself not understabding everything perfectly but as i went on and learnt other thinfs and practiced stuff eventually the full understanding of said things was just naturally planted in my brain
it is about tutor for coding
Agree
well if i got the job it would be not bad
Yeah you do, I mean if it's pissing you off so much maybe you should find a new career
Eventually it all ties together
well now smash burgers is a popular item so you need to learn that
Just relax and give your self some time to learn
Yeah
I can't find anything else
i live with my mom and dad
and Romania is facing a extreme economic collapse
Aren't you a streamer?
so yea
Technology evolved very significantly....
in Romania , we have most companies
you need to find something you like, leave romaina and seek a future elsewhere
having layoffs
even experinced coders
were fucking fired
why ? Ai and Data Centers
and taxes ofc
I'm going to become an Influencer and All i will ever do is beg for money
it's too expensive to have coders
automotive , QA
fuck them
we don't need programmers, especially mediocre ones
That's what companies do know
Ez ๐คฃ
Well, I don't think we're gonna get anywhere. Bro is seeking advice while not wanting any advice
well if people fire experienced coders right ?
what is my chance ?
how can I get a job ?
if I don't even have their knowledge of IT
that's my point , how's this industry gonna look like in 20 years ?
You can't without knowledge and you don't wanna do anything to improve your knowledge so what's the point?
Get an education and leave, you know what the rest of europe thinks of Romania and every city is flooded with people looking for handouts.
But here in sweden they can not get aid, because they are from within EU. No un-employment office either.
Make sure you can do 1 job good.
โPerfectโ what do you mean?
It also has to do with culture I guess
but that's another topic
To me jobs should have nothing to do with how you look, how you talk, ofc langauges are important even in IT
but to me, it's about, how can one do their job well
I have co-workers in romaina also, so ofc there is well paying jobs.
You have huge industrial exports
For example now I'm doing the devsecops path on tryhackme
i started with the basics like everyone here finished the first 2 modules
now I'm doing security engineer , with containers , pipline , CI / CD etc
But those are all small fun things
but to me ,I'm more interested in protecting systems
like firewall, routers etc
PC, phones
Be in SOC then mate
I'm not so interested in coding or pen test
Then do the SC-200 then AZ-500 in microsoft. and go get a analyst job or a SOC team
I just want a easy job that pays me some money
Go in blue teaming
are they certificates ?
They are
Microsoft
Microsoft
I am not interested in pentesting ether , I am trying to do malware analysis but knowledge is like gold so learn everything
I also registered on IC2
they give free certificates to the first 5 million users
dunno
ofc if you pass the exam
then you gotta pay to retake exam
Anyway gn hackers is late here
If you want to get a foot in cyber those two are a great way in.
Do i have to learn python ?
nope
stay a little more
because that's another headache
Nighty nightt
Sure some programming will come along they way, but initially, no.
Get meds and it won't be
It's that easy
coding for me makes no sense so memorzing it , is impossible
Adhd isn't a quirk or a personality trait, it's a chemical imbalance that's manageable with meds and therapy
where does one get the invitation code for https://static-labs.tryhackme.cloud/apps/hoppers-invitation/
Look them up. They are about the Microsoft suite. Entra, Defender, Sentinel, Intune, Azure, etc.
This is a huge market for companies that keep their infrastructure there.
So having those certs shows that you know these systems well enough to start working in a SOC team, as a SOC Analyst, etc.
But if you want to know more, do not just ask. Look it up on your own. You see your own pattern here, you just wanted someone to tell you instead of just looking it up.
You do not memorise coding, you code until you learn it. But you still talk about what is bad about everything
Beeng negative will get you nowhere
Well I need to sleep, office day tomorrow
meds won't help but thanks
Gave +1 Rep to @velvet gull (current: #224 - 46)
i don't want to be mean or something but he came here a while and had the same questions and he just wants to yap, bo matter how much you'll tell him he don't want to listen
Maybe go outdoors
i told you this before, study cyber and if it's too hard for you just change the career
It's not that is it's hard
Look the certs up, practice speaking English also if its a bit wonky.
woe is me
but one of the things that I know about myself , based on science
this is not a opinion
I have facts, facts based on data, based on science, statistics
about my brain you know
disengage angle
its been such a depressing day here today
So my brain has , ADHD, Autism , depression, anxiety ( pannic attacks) dyselxia
Well did the doctor say all those things or google
the inabillity to say the right words and letters
What's up Shyft
if it's not fit for you just change the career ez
oh i mean the conversations happening here today have been depressing
Go catch me a kangaroo
I pay for shipping
well it's called neuromap
theyre too quick, you need to entice them
Well I did not ask all that
based on the data, i have all of them
you have a doctor and google?
@narrow yew yea the doctor said that
i have too many diagnosis
and pills won't help due to the fact that one will increase the other
what's your point about having adhd
so there is no pills that can help my brain
due to autism, adhd , and anxiety
which contradicts
I can bring carrots
We build a big trap
you need vegemite and beer
anyway thanks for the help
I will go into the SOC path
and then maybe I'll follow some certs
but again, I don't wanna get lost in other things
thats the spirit
Vegimite/Marmite is a one wierd product from beer production
you sound like noname
are they right ?
like you can't do blue team ,if you don't know red team ?
vice-versa ?
you can go full blue, no needto be red team but it will come with the blue part
add a few random code bits, talk about things randomly for a while
we missed you all of us
really? i dont think ive ever seen you type as bad as that
We make fun of others ๐
people have accussed me as such with the semicolon stuff;
thats fine, its not intrusive
awwwh;
was i gone awhile? i had a sick morning but i didn't think i was gone that long;
She's coding
i was mostly just preping for that doomned interview;
hey guys, and gals, where does one get the invitation code for https://static-labs.tryhackme.cloud/apps/hoppers-invitation/
We noticed that you're missing
What are you asking them? What is the job for?
was, i did the interview and now i am def not working for them;
tldr, the interviewer who is incharge of cyber is probably sexist even if he probably doesn't think he is;
๐ that sucks
Maybe not used to MTF
legitimately said i much not be qualified because i "didn't say the term "threat modeling" after i just spent 40 minutes explaining exactly how i would do a vulnerability assessment including threat modeling;
and no ironically its because i passed as a woman that he seemed to be sexist towards me;
hah, you got me ๐
that's the grim paradox of passing as a trans woman, people just shit on your for looking like a cis woman if you pass;
it wasn't just the sexism though, the interviewer literally did a human rights violation under canada law;
Tf did he do
i requested for accomodations, the interviewer refused to give them;
Who
Interviewer
fuck that company.
and the company of the interviewer apparently had no formal process for requesting accomodations in interviews;
I had a bunch of beers with a cis woman I guess the term is the other week. It was just confused, it is not that comon here.
but a great beer drinker and good banter
Can u report them to the company
a fortune 500 company mind you;
the issue wasn't the interviewer imo;
the issue was the company itself;
do you want to name and shame?
their interview process gives leads of each section of the company a gatekeeper power over hires;
or we can talk about other random things
yer fuck them, good luck with the next one ๐
ah so it goes back one sidequest when you do the dissappearing act sq
that basically means if the interviewer doesn't like people like you for any reason or no reason, they will be able to haze with no real oversight possible if you aren't an employee;
tldr it is what it is, going to continue the death march and keep applying to literally every job until i get even 1 more interview;
What are you evening plans?
Doing anything fun?
not sure yet, i was thinking hades 2;
or genshin;
i had some donuts which was fun;
still have to work on my portfolio too;
genshin is a dog?
Video game
me and shyft will go throw apples
i love how the vinney twins just are derping in the background while daddy babysits them;
for those who are playing the story quests;
We know what that game is, not some genshin sounds like gen X learned how to shave
gen shin
Shooting apples in a potatoegun
@sturdy sequoia that is what you need to build
Haha. Haven't built one of them for like 20 years
#Sandrone #Lyney #Lynette #Freminet
From Genshin Impact Luna II - Song of the Welkin Moon Act III
#genshinimpact
#genshin
#hoyoverse
I will for sure after winter
shoot apples at my neighbours
What propulsion will you use?
Potato guns aren't just a movie gimmick?
I was thinking air
Anyone played that one genshin quest where a doctor tells them not to only eat a mushroom in a specific way but they end up not listening and the mushrooms make them see and hear things that aren't there and then they begin seeking out that experience even more
I saw it on mythbusters a long time ago, or gas I guess
now those are a fun thing
fun while having beer
having guns or rifles out are not good with beer
Yer that's what we did. Mates dad was a mechanic so we had access to a good air compressor engine
the drug trips in genshin are hillarious because even without drugs its just 1 big drug trip;
(non alcoholic beer still PG13)
Are you or the characters taking the drugs?
yes;
Move zig here?
though actually that does remind me i need to take my meds;
i haven't actually taken my daily doctor prescribed drug trips yet;
the ones that somehow are healthy because a doctor gave them to me;
Can't complain
looks at my e cup boobs yup can't complain;
I wish my doctor would prescribe me better drugs
I cannot express how happy I am that I got arlechino and her weapon when she first came out
i guess what i'm saying is do drugs if it gives you e cups;
side effects may include interview sexism;
but BOOBs though;
Give the sexist CTO that drug
Sorry if I say anything inappropriate. I get that you're kind of joking around but if i say something a bit weird, please pull me up on it
nah i'm just memeing today;
im just old and might not be caught up with the correct terminology
words are just frames, all about good vibes;
I dont understand half
as long as you aren't like that weirdo that started hitting on me in dms without even asking if they can dm first you're doing fine;
We will ask before hitting
always ask first
consent is always important yes;
Ig ur reaching unc status, major L moment, F in the chat for the giga chad.
We are uncs
haha i understood some of that
have i mentioned how the bad puns in genshin are major unc energy?;
this legend though;
I'm already pushing my 20s and I already feel old
unc is uniform naming convention right? ๐
What would a random manga of a girl looking like jailbait tell us
pantheon is an american cartoon;
Not wrong.
go watch it, its the new lain;
I forgot to sleep
have i not hyped up pantheon yet?;
now office is closer
cause holy crap its a great show;
I would never watch that crap ๐
and i only saw 6 episodes so far;
pantheon was pretty good. and im not really an anime fan
Idk why, but I feel like Genshin is a visual novel/puzzle game disguised as an action game.
yes;
@sturdy sequoia I grew up watching Prisoner (or Prisoner: Cell Block H).
though literally my fav part is spending hours farming treasure chests;
Last show on swedish tv at 3.30am. 20 ish years ago
same way i spent more time in breath of the wild farming gold seeds that def weren't poop;
10/10 game right there
I could never, I need something fast paced and combat heavy. My attention span is not that very long.
no idea
we type fast
there are websites to test
I AM SPEED
yer but i havent used them
go play celeste or hades then;
It is really un interesting information
both great games that are nice and short levels;
i only type with 4 fingers
who caes about typing speed
I already have Punishing Gray Raven
thats a good one too;
Guys
does having a formal education helps ?
Are script written in C
Yes.
its less about how fast you type but how effectively you use the cmd line;
or most people here don't go to school actually to get a known degree
do I still need certifications ?
if i get a formal degree
you are just ignoring what people write you
Yes.
Yes
a few lines of code can save you hundreds of hours of manual typing;
aha
I told you how to land a job already
work smarter not harder;
go follow it and it will be no problem
Just say yes or no that's what he wants
I'm not a guy, smh. It's "The last 4 digits of your bank card"
Yeah dude is hopeless
guys i want to buy a desktop computer
thaat around my budget of 50 to 100 dollar
i need 64gb of ram
the other components are not important
dont people get jobs without a degree
Do you write script or make your own tools
Have you seen ram prices this week?
no
Ask in a place where they recommend pcs
but i forgat what certs did he say
yea :(
Math I need your answer don't ignore me please
i gotta go back now and see the names
Go DDR4 and prices are manageable
Always take notes
How can I learn writing script and tools
you take notes ?
i am new, where do i start?????????
I know python, C, JavaScript, but idk how to use them
you did not forget, you were not interested enough to remember. It is a difference here
I do, I also take notes of what people like @narrow yew say. A friend was teaching me Microsoft Flight Sim and I was taking notes as well. Get in the habit of it
Really, I don't make my own tools. Can't seem to find a reason to.
If I were to make one, it would have meaning and purpose.. like a painting for example.
SC-200 then AZ-500 in microsoft
I like shoroiscubv
i need for ai
She have my consent to flirt anytime
i meant where do i start learning hacking
I like shortcuts
i am trying to build llm
fail fast mentality
roadmap?
I need to fill my resume and do projects
Thank you my dear online cyber father
Gave +1 Rep to @narrow yew (current: #175 - 56)
you runied it.
You won't get anywhere with that attitude
with one line
Yeah bro, jus dump 100k into SANS and GIAC and you'll get hired in no time.
Trust ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
Guys please someone tell me jeez
Thanks for reminding me of SANS
Gave +1 Rep to @celest dirge (current: #175 - 56)
should i learn linux basics first or something else
No problem!
ik networking a bit
whatever you want
See the Roadmap in the Learn section and follow that
the most efficient way
oh alr
depends on your goals
The most efficient way to learn is just doing it instead of prepping for it indefinitely
meep meep moop moop it is the time for sleep sloop to the beep boop
i mean what is the point of putting hard working in the wrong direction
Can someone help get something
Shadow I need you
That's what you have the Roadmap for, you'll be able to decide the direction after learning basics
get what? and dont say something thats illegal
okay thanks.
There's one project I am slacking off on, and it's not really hard to do.
Which is, setting up elastic in my Active Directory domain.
No
Tell me more about it
In what language
it's not
What is it then?
for what???
Patience, that's the language I am using. I'm just gonna setup and deploy Elastic SIEM, and enroll one of my Windows workstations to the fleet.
๐ @sand trench
I asked a question and they all ignored me
The question is what can my first project in cybersecurity be (I know python, C, JavaScript)
Let's do a project together if you want to
What project tho?
You are grounded and no screens
portscanner is a popular one
I'm gonna sneak out when you're taking your old-man nap dw
where is the learn section you where talking about
as this is first project and there for sometimes better to reinvent wheels
Anything, in the next two months I have an internship and I have a lot of free time I want to learn more how to use coding in cybersecurity
Some might have you blocked
On the top of the thm website
I lost my login to the account on ig
What language should I use?
oh the website, i thought you were talking about a discord channel or smth
thanks
Illegal
Sounds good to me.
I asked you and you ignored me
guys
contact ig
im tryna connect to the vpn , does it really take that long to do it?
Are you good with coding
I am one of those some
they dont have customer service gang
How
And I'm on the phone
python would be the logical choice
javascript would be more of a challenge and kinda fun if you can figure out how to run it kinda client sided using xss
c would probably be the fastest scanner but compiled scanners have thier problems
I am a victim to "If you don't use it, you lose it" so give me a month to master my craft again.
Jokes aside some people blocked me and I never even talked to them
u are not him gang
Where do contact them at
Thank you shadow that really means a lot to me and yes, mind if I ping you or something if I encounter problems or I have something to ask?
Gave +1 Rep to @sand trench (current: #3 - 2302)
Use Google
Okay, but has this ever happened to you?
Gang im losing it
It's okay brother the main thing is that we make a project from now until February
well shadow themselves have never programmed a portscanner in anything but python... but sure could try and answer questions... now just wanna sleep sloop to beep boop while meep moop though
Brutal
G'night shadow, may you sleep well!
I hope shadow gets the best sleep ever
bro
am i tripping?
im doing todays room , the one for cracking passwords and i run the "zip2john flag.zip > ziphash.txt" and it says command not found
wth
cheers to all the dreamers, sleepwell!;
sudo
im already root
i've got a doctors appointment and then gonna eat a sandwhich and play games for a bit;
might work on thm later today too;
weird, idk then
almost caught up on aoc now besides the sidequests;
the sidequests are such a rabbithole
for sure;
its like me when i homelab;
i discover that 1 problem is actually 10000 problems;
yer i had to quit after sq1. consumed too much of me
and that infastructure is hard;
hah yeah
i might skip sidequests and just play more with my homelab;
the aocs are nice and bite sized luckily;
yer thats what im doing now
I finished sq1, and then stared into the void that was sq2 and back away slowly
have i mentioned i am playing with data analytics and my google takeout?;
basically i found a tool in vs code that coverts most file types into md;
oh that's cool
and so i am right now compiling all my data from my google take out into notes to create a personal media recomendation pipeline;
is that the file type obsidian uses?
yes but obsidian is closed source so i recomend logseq;
either way though md is ideal for llm training;
ah cool
and that makes it so it can automate my media recomendations and other fun ways to kill time;
my life in a nutshell;
but its a fun waste;
its not wasitng your time, its spending your time
I'm interested
Give us an outline of what your plan is
If it involves me giving you money to give me money back I'm in, if it's for free I don't want to
Dont you guys think THM should do a room for computing fundementals like basics hardware and how it actually works
Money??? I definitely need my robux giftcard ๐ค
i come back to super emoji parties;
I think it does

if you want to learn cyber, you don't have to pay a cent in theory besides maybe the certs;
There's no one resource that it enough for everything
You need to look always for multiple sources
you can literally do everything with a junk pc from a dump;
Theory will get u like half way
yer back in the day we had to be self taught. not many resources were available
YouTube literally have 100% of things these days
the practical is mostly working with hardware, and there are libraries for exactly that;
"Back in the day" ๐ต
you can get a helpdesk job to learn hardware pretty easy;
I learned cyber for free but penetration testing needed money
What did u buy
lots of free resources, even hands on resources
food and water and shelter;
Look at this course and rate it https://academy.tcm-sec.com/p/practical-help-desk
its almost too easy to learn these days
seems good, when i say getting a job in help desk i mean because some things you needs literally in person training to understand;
like how routing phystically works at the cable level and power draw;
those are things that are easiest to learn on job if you can find one;
and that can be as simple as what i did where i literally just went to retirement homes and put up poster for computer services as a kid;
Completely free, what most help desk jobs will want you to know

if you want hands on experience for free and you live in any metropolitan city its endless free work to train yourself on foundations;
messer is fantastic too;
also seniors are often some of the most forgiving clients in my experience;
Is there help desk certs that are credible?
especially if your prices are fair;
Never heard of a help desk cert except that A+
there are exceptions but generally speaking retirement homes are chill places to learn it in;
A+ seems to be only one
A+ have been dead for years people don't look at it anymore
in the US they do
Bug bounty didnt pay up
if you learn the test subjects and never get certified that's more than enough for most of the world;
Bastards
I'm not saying only A+ won't get you a job but plenty of places will require it
usa and canada are the rare exceptions and that depends if you are working corporate help desk;
I can lend a help desk job without a cert?
easiest cert to get a job is ccna atm;
Why
at least in north america;
even ccna won't guarantee you a job
yer ive worked with people who got a help desk job fresh out of high school
if you have a ccna or a security+, you're usually set if you actually find the employers;
My uni gives all Cisco certs for free, I'll get it in February
not in the US
Because the server I tested was their customer's server and not their responsibility.
And here's the interesting part. They are a website hosting company
finding employers is the problem atm;
Speaking of jobs and employers, introducing a new certification for... drums rolls please... the unemployed.
because of a lot of it hiring managers being scum lately;
finding employers who want to hire you is a problem
i know this too well, i am applying as we speak;
there are thousands of candidates for every job
Ayooo thanks imma put this in my resume
Gave +1 Rep to @celest dirge (current: #172 - 57)
i'm saying in terms of actually getting a job though you don't need a bachelors at least;
Did you try bugcroud or whatever its name was
You're very much welcome!
that's still better than a lot of trades that are explicitly cert locked;
is solving all "Hard" crypto pico CTF challenges considerd flex (: ?
No, I found the server from a Shodan query
in canada to work in foods you have to get foodsafe;
except if an employer wants a bachelors, but basically right now there are a lot of highly qualified people applying for jobs and companies may not even look at you if you don't have a bachelors
same with even being a barista;
Try bugcrowd or a known site and tell us about it
compared to that, the amount of certification in it is relatively low;
at least at the entry level;
the problem is work experience nowadays;
and finding employers;
but that's true of literally every industry;
Tbh, I kinda like my current method of just emailing and contacting the companies
even getting a barista job is tough in many cities;
we're at the brink of a recession;
Go get them king, we're all chanting for you

grats!;
Its hard work, and not all the times you find something. But when you do its a good feeling
More work to do ๐ช
From my exp, Redis services have little to no security implementation
What's redis
Data structure store used as a database within ram instead of disk so its faster services
llm bug bounties are extremely good atm;
most companies have never heard of even basic input validation;
Thank you for explaining
Gave +1 Rep to @oblique loom (current: #365 - 22)
they usually don't pay well but there's A LOT of llms that are insecure atm;
You know what you do when you find a no credentials Redis?
KEYS *
FLUSHALL
SHUTDOWN
The last 2 being in that order.
You'll cause some ruckus alright lol
You can even go a whole step better and get RCE
why you telling someone that has no concept of redis that?
Mmm looks like sabotage to me
if you think you are teaching, then I think you are a bit misguided... first I'd have someone go try it out if they cared to learn about redis, not that they expressed an interest
K
and Penderrin is right, if you do something like that on a system with no credentials, it is likely out of scope
I swear I gove input and all the time this place
Give
Nothing wrong with talking about this stuff
This is a cybersec server
there is something wrong about talking about stuff that goes into the destruction territory
I legit write malware and share how it works with yall when I know you will never use it
that is what #exploit-and-mal-studies is for
Oooooooo you're the one that I need
ayooo u guys ready for the new avengers trailer
I asked a question about that earlier and no one gave me a good answer
it might come out sometime this week hell yeah
Says [No Access]. Elaborate?
its a malware studies channel, once you get a certain level you can access it, reason being is they don't want malware discussions in general channels
So I'm into red teaming and I know coding but I don't know how to combine them together I'm pretty good in C, python, JavaScript but idk how to make anything with them in cybersecurity
How can I learn how to make malwares or any tools or anything? What do I need to learn?
Thank you @tired peak @tropic sail @oblique loom

exploit development is what you want to look for, there are plenty of resources online
Can you maybe give me one or two if it doesn't bother you
Or a thm room
Ok, there are a lot of answers to this and it really depends.
For me, I double-encode the payloads within the malware so AV doesn't flag it
you want me to google exploit development courses? OffSec has a couple
OpenSecurity.info has a variety of resources
I want to start with something begginer friendly so what do you suggest
Guy how do I type this on my keyboard ^
Free ones?
I'm not sure if this contains malware development hehe but imma drop this here
OpenSecurity yes
Pls
Humble Bundle has a book bundle going on right now btw
I forgot but it's in the right of p
it helps to learn reverse engineering although reverse engineering and exploit development are 2 different things
Thank you all
I have that book everything you learn there is completely oudatet it gives you python scripts that really don't work anymore
โ๐ป
this does look solid
https://www.humblebundle.com/books/hacking-no-starch-books
Don't they release a new edition every two years?
No?
Do you plan to buy it?
Not yet
Here's a short bite size piece:
- Go to : Malware Analysis - Egg-xecutable
- Get the hophelper.exe
- Find out how to de-compile it
- Look inside and see what it's doing
- Send us a 5 page report by next week
What malware are you trying to do? Backdoor? Worm? Ransomware-type code?
Or are you maybe looking for a demo malware program?

I just want to create projects cuz all the time I was using tools and I'm studying software engineering I'm pretty good at coding so I said why don't I learn how to code I cybersecurity
Btop does look really nice
Don't buy it twin I know what Im talking about I made the same mistake
you can do cybersecurity coding without doing malware
Dw twin imma buy the linux basics one for christmas
Yeah I said earlier I want just to put things in my GitHub cuz it's empty
Red team or blue team I'm up to it
?
You mean that one
there are plenty of scripts and what not you can develop
Can you explain more please
Do some rooms and CTFs. Think about the tasks you do over and over. Write a script to automate some of it.
so... think of kali... all those scripts and programs on it, someone coded those
Burpsuite, Metasploit, JackTheRipper
Ah, well in that case you dont habe to male malware specifically.
You can make port scanners, directory scans, or auto brute-force w/ a wordlist
Test
Stupid Discord
Jack
there is also a lot of work in things like anomaly detection, Splunk, Snort, Suricata, all of those are applications
you don't even have to code an entire application yourself, there are tons of open source projects you can contribute to
The problem is I don't know how to combine networks and python as an example
Yo I wanna hear your thoughts yall
So basically my uni has partnered with Codepath for a cyber bootcamp this summer but I feel like it would be a waste of time. Do I give it a shot? or stick to thm and htb
well test it out, get a python book, write a client/server application... tada, python networking
is it free? or does it cost extra?
Free
Thank you
Gave +1 Rep to @tired peak (current: #19 - 549)
I mean free learning is hard to pass up, especially if you are working with other people locally
What's this
Python + Networking
it's a virtual bootcamp
dude usually their like $5k if its free that sounds worth it
so virtual bootcamp, that is free, what happens if you start and drop out?
nothing
Should I put those silly little projects in my GitHub or it's useless
and will other students be taking it with you?
why not try it then? sounds like no risk
downside not detected
put on github and linkedin
yeah it's international
why not? when you build things more complex you can hide the shit ones if your ashamed of them. Or leave em there to showcase how you progressed
aight I'll think about it... it's a first come first serve lol so I might not be able to get in now. thanks
I mean generally I think bootcamps are scammy but thats cuz they cost $$$ but I'd put my name in for free stuff
I'll make sure to do, thank you
Gave +1 Rep to @odd mulch (current: #3399 - 1)
Oh yeah and they get a cert once they finish it. so yeah thank you
Gave +1 Rep to @tired peak (current: #19 - 550)
i have an android app in map that i was super proud of when i built it when I was learning android. Its an atrocious thing. It has so many memory leaks that renders your phone unusable if you flip it like 20 times
and its still there. To remind myself that memory leaks are bad
They are kinda scammy
I did one
Kinda
Long story
I did the "demo run"
is it worth it?
For office work stuff, yea
RAM is pretty good
SSD kinda small imo
(I use M2s)
How many i7 cores?
Is it quad?
Quad and above is good
No
I rocked a T14s Gen 1? Gen 2? At my old corpo job. It's soldered in ram, you can't remove it
ram is alr 32 gb
Alright, what happens when your ram is bad? And you BSoD constantly?
4-core, 8-thread
Ask me how I know
Its not a bad modern office laptop
My Resume now:
Windows 10: 70+
Windows 11: 5
Windows 7: 3
CentOS: 2
Kali: 3
Arch: 3
Mint: 2
Wifi Pineapple: 2
Jabba's Spotify: 1
Jabba's Discord Spoiler Text: 1
Mage's Discord: 1
Shadow's Dragonbox Pyra: 1
Shadow's Dragonbox OpenPandora: 8
Toaster's RSS Reader: 1
OpenIV: 3
Fedora: 1
70+ is from that fucking Thinkpad
Actually a bit better than the typical office laptop
i need one for uni thats good for cybersecurity & running multiple vms etc
im a cybersec undergrad student
Look into the P1 series, it's more money, but they're still a workhorse
That's my suggestion, I know multiple desktop engineers who used the P1, I think I used a P15s
P15s is still great!
T14s is still great, I can't speak on the VM running, didn't do it on my T14s
you'll need one with more RAM, of course RAM right now is $$$
thats the issue
one i found is 32gb
yeah its a pretty old processor, but for $500 its going to be a challenge
usually in that price point AMD will do you better
oh its not as old as I thought, says it came out in 2020
I would think it is probably fine
yea hows the processor
Worth a watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HgAN5cEmkk
This first time build went so much better than I could have ever hoped.
Let me know if you have any tips, I'm still new to this! Also if you have any questions I try to read and answer every comment!

well except if they need a laptop
Sure. It's more about the thought process of how he goes about picking the components and such.
You could also run a desktop and then VPN or SSH back to it from a (lower spec) laptop, and you'd get experience with the networking?
thats what i do for my home lab
old laptop vnc to an rpi
or be like me, spin up a server in the cloud if you need something, depends what you trying to do
hi
thats the same one
honestly, its fine, you should be able to do the things you want to do with it
not bad
I think someone said earlier you can do a ton with a laptop found in a dumpster, I know its stressful because its an investment and you want to make sure you have the right thing for school, but that should be able to do anything you need it to do
what?
@umbral bay someone has something juicy
Hey guys I am using Asus zenbook 14 Intel ultra 5 with just 8 gb ram 512 gb ssd
I don't want to ask what they have
wtf are you talking about
donotbet
maybe crypto scam, maybe mabelline
We should start from what we have
haha. scammers need to be a lot more clear. no wonder theyre all so desperate
they bankrolling the world it sounds like
sounds good
of course if you realling building the bankroll, you wouldn't be posting in discord, you'd be out there spending your monies
But 8 gb ram is one of the big headache
yup, if you can upgrade, it'll be a good thing
!!
easter, so overrated
eggactly
Hi
Shhhht
Huh
just discovered that you can turn off echo
so cute
How
Is it a jailbreak or what
