The forensic analysis confirms the password is functional. I successfully entered the correct passphrase and verified that the LUKS volume unlocked (created /dev/mapper/hd_final).

The problem is purely logical corruption: the luksFormat command destroyed the Superblock metadata of the file system (Ext4/NTFS) that sits inside the unlocked LUKS volume.

That's the core problem we've been fighting! It's likely Ext4 because of the VMs, but the file system is too corrupted for standard commands.

The simple mount -t ext4 fails. We already tried that command (sudo mount /dev/mapper/img_luks /mnt/...) and it fails with a 'bad superblock' error.

So the image was created, loop devices worked, but there’s no valid filesystem readable inside.
At this point, the problem seems to be that the bad sectors include either:

the filesystem metadata, or
the LUKS header / key-slot region (the drive was encrypted)

Because

of that, the cloned .img is incomplete and can’t be decrypted or mounted, even with loop devices and offsets.

That’s why mounting fails no matter what.
