Depends on how complex a program is, but yes I would say you should know a decent bit about programming. But it can be somewhat easier to find flaws than to build a program from scratch, if you know what you're looking for.
But typically, programmers are smart people so it is (hopefully) not immediately obvious to a beginner. What is not smart however is AI vibe coding and well, that's becoming more of a thing

Not something I am that familiar with. I have done coursework on reverse engineering and seems extremely interesting but complicated. Definitely requires deep knowledge of system level programming though.
