LXCs are already as lightweight, persistent and easy to access;

They're much nicer to customise however, while Distrobox is a bit stiffer

You can mount files granularly and choose what bits of /home to share; you can isolate it from the network and edit how many network interfaces it has; you can restrict how it interacts with your display/audio sockets
