dd will do a bit-for-bit copy which probably isn't what you want because you could be copying basically the entire disk. balena etcher is irrelevant as far as i know. rsync is the way to go, imo. but like Moose said, the man pages give some insight if you're more curious. i just thought i'd mention this because dd is very dangerous if you're not careful.
