ehm, i have a laptop with esim enabled and i use it to hotspot to my phone/meta quest headset. all works fine. only hitch is that a specific win software doesn't recognise the headset and laptop as being on same wifi network. it is (i believe) due to the esim receiving a mobile ip number and then giving out standard ip addressses to the other connected devices. I can achive LAN connection via Laptop and Headset for most programs this way, it's just one important software that doesn't understand that we are on the same network... in fact, the specific software has connected on at least two occasions perfectly, but seemingly 'per chance', and since then I can#t replicate it. i assume the auto ip allocation lucked out on those two occasions and allocated the same base IP address numebers, though I am definitely over my head to understand. i know how to view my ip addresses on both headset and laptop, i just dont know how to manipulate them without causing internet outage altogether , etc...

see, i don't even know how to anser that... . let me try though. i have a personal laptop and am at home. I donät have a traditional internet provider at home, instead i have a mobile provider that gives me 5G with a very good and reliable connection here at my home. my laptop has esim capabilities, so I installed this 5g esim into my laptop and it can now connect to the internet via it's internal 5g esim. furthermore, it can turn on Hotspot and share its internet with other devices. I turn on hotspot and it shares it via "WLAN" (german word for what i believe is WiFi"). now i connect my Meta Quest 3 VR headset to this hotspot via WiFi otpoin, and all works great (internet acces, etc). I managed to create LAN games between my laptop and Quest 3 headset for games like Mincraft (which requires to be on the saem network - hence LAN) and also use Remote Desktop app from Meta to project my PC screen onto my Headset. When I use the Windows equivalent app to achieve this Remote desktop connection to my headset, it doesnät recognise that we are on the same network.

no, this is not an known issue. i can get the connectiomn to work if i use my phone as a hotspot and then connect to the phone with my laptop and headset,. it is only when i use my laptop as the originaotor of the wifi hotspot that this software does not recognise the heasdset as being on the same network even though the headset is being wifid by the laptop,,,

well,,, i guess i asked the wrong qurestion. too broad. i really just want to know if and how i can manipulate the ip address given to the headset from my laptop. it is aparently possible with traditional wifi routers but since it is my laptop that is acting as the router, and is routinmg 5G mobile data onward, it isn't apparent how i can do it. It involves someting like 2. Configure DHCP Reservation on your Router:
Access your router's interface: This is usually done through a web browser by entering your router's IP address (often 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).
Locate DHCP settings: Find the section for DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) or connected devices/clients.
Create a reservation: Look for an option to add a new DHCP reservation or static lease.

You would need to check the Event Logs under Application and check for errors

Forget and reconnect to the laptop hotspot.

You have to ensure:

ok, software is called Mixed-Reality Link by Windows - this one doesn't recognise Quest 3 and Laptop as being on the same network. other software that does is Meta Quest Remote Desktop - this connects fine. Questcraft (VR Minecraft) and Laptop also connect via wifi just fine . anyway. thx ppl :). if i ipconfig my laptop i have two ip address allocations: Mobile and WLAN. mobile is usually xx.xx.xx.x while WLAN is usually xxx.xxx.xxx.x. the headset is then allocated from the WLAN xxx.xxx.xxx.x and this is where i belive this one Mixed-Reality Link software, it doesnät make the connection that it is still that same network. other software makes that connection just fine. what more confusing, sometimes I got the connection to work but at that time i wasnt wise enough to check ip addresses of both devices and i am left to believe it was an ip allocation fluke, ass both the laptop receives random ip allocation each new internet connection to 5g asnd the headset also when connecting to the leptop hotspot. Anyway, good day to all of you 🙂
