You can really skip to whatever you want, but a lot of IT people actually end up interacting directly with the systems which matters a lot more than just programming.

Like for example with Linux, understanding Linux, knowing how to use the commands and use bash or whatever. Your skills would actually be more valuable compared to someone that just knows how to write Python, because not only could you assist with maintaining and managing a specific server or whatever but you could still write scripts for that specific system without python, and you could still figure out ways to exploit that system without knowing python or any other language aside from the very basic fundamentals of any scripting. Knowing a language (especially one that Linux is written in) would drastically improve your expertise over that field for that operating system compared to someone that spent a lot of time studying Python, and not as much studying Linux.

It's just separate fields, separate focuses.

While they know in depth python, you know in depth Linux or Windows.

You overshadow them realistically.

and for freshers a better chance would be to go with industry standard like comptia sec+ or stuff
