Okay, so there are different types of architectures for different types of computer processors.

All of the Apple silicon chips (anything that starts with an M) uses ARM64 architecture

which isn't very common in consumer computing

a lot of scripts aren't designed with this in mind (the ones in kali linux for example) so some of them won't run

virtualisation does not change the architecture, emulation does but you run things a lot slower

the most common architecture in computing is x86-64, also known as AMD64 or Intel 64

so yes, you can run a virtual machine but the image you would need to install in that virtual machine would also need to be arm64

so you'd still not have the capability to run things that require x86-64 architecture (some apps/scripts)

luckily the vast majority of things are supported on arm64

virtualisation is much more efficient that emulation

you lose a lot of computational power when doing emulation since you are translating cpu architectures, that changes everything

virtualisation on the other hand is much lighter to do since the host does not need to compute that translation
