So the data traffic of all devices is encrypted and can't be read for example by sniffing. Need a hacker to attack over the provider of VPN or is it simple the same like without VPN?

the encryption most VPNs use is very strong(like RSA)
so no, the hacker if he is able to sniff, won't able to tell what it is and if he hacks the servers

and VPN servers have a huge traffic
it will be like finding a needle in a haystack

An Access Control List can be applied on Switch, Router, or Firewall, all it does (depending on what control number you give it) is stop devices within the range you give from communicating with that device. In this case, a DMZ will ideally block the entire range except broadcast and network, to only allow communication over 0.0.0.0 (aka. gateway)

Whether the firewall is an SPI on the router or a dedicated firewall between edge and router doesn't matter, as long as the DMZ is after your firewall. There's no need for majority of consumer networks to need more than an SPI firewall

It's basically an argument to say "we taught them what they know" even though they may not have, but it's more of a time thing "I.e. we gave them the opportunity to do x/y/z".

Then the Uni can use it as papers for patents, basis for PhD students/research projects, as well as advertising the University to industry partners "Look at what our students can do".

It's fucked because most of the time dissertations/projects are very independant by nature but yeah, it just benefits the University

Sorta depends. Unis here have a very weird/specific grading system. For example, certain exams or assements have their own weighting depending on year.

LIke for my Bsc, I was useless at first and second year because it counted very little to my final grade, my 3rd year was the count whch got me the best result. There's some weighting and varianece to say (oh well you done good in 2nd year but not 3rd year so we'll calculate it as x/y/z) but 3rd year for me was the heighest weighting

From what I just read it depends on if outside funding is involved...at least for the US. So for undergrads, their work is most likely owned entirely by them.

But if you're a masters students and some outside org is funding the research, the uni owns it

It was really bad, I knew that some of the disks were incredibly old and had been gone for many hours, and also in RAD0 without a proper backup. I know that it is playing with the danger of having RAID0 and no backup, especially on old disks, I have just been lazy and whining about it, I thought the last time the day before like "I have to fix the disks and back up as soon as possible" an update and reboot created a perfect storm and woke up the sectors that had been damaged but not read or written to until now.. Luckily in bad luck it was nothing important on it, all the code and so on is on another place, but still had to reinstall Proxmox and Ubuntu Server and get on with the project.. never again "I'll fix it later"...

Well it depends really

They can’t crack your password unless they have the hash

So if they’re just looking to get in your account they might gather information on the internet and then generate a password list and brute force

I can’t go too much into detail on how they would exactly do this because I’d be breaking ethics but that’s the gist

There are much easier ways of getting social media accounts, this is just a generic example
