I'm talking specifically about med school though. The med school experience is broken, especially for emergency medecine. And I was shocked at the original post that was made saying they're waiting to FINISH med school before pivoting into cyber. Waiting to accumulate a mortgage's worth of debt before making a drastic career change is not what I would call a wise decision.

There's no preparation path for a CTF, the THM labs will give you a fundamental level to do a lot of the basics in a CTF but other stuff you'll 100% need to research during it

Yeah do labs, then just start doing CTFs. There's no penalty for failing them and it can be nice to learn new stuff through trial and error
