There are a lot of intangibles that are demonstrated by the degree; the ability to write reports, exposure to other topics that makes you a better employee overall, that you stuck with something for long enough to graduate. Don't underestimate the things you get out of a degree that aren't listed in your transcript.

learm how nmap works.
also you cant only enumerate target with nmap, you have to learn DNS, WHOIS, SNMP, SMB, LDAP, FTP etc. how to enumerating these services how to exploit them etc.
learn linux commands like netcat, telnet etc. use tcpdump for capturing network requests.
use tryhackme, hackthebox, rootme, portswigger for learning web vulnerabilities.

Personally I'd start with something with a lot of documentation and tutorials like Python.

Start making small apps and host them (Use flask) on a website for a portfolio.
Don't try making a massive app/game right away. Stick to the boring like... To do list, calculator, etc.
Then do some apps that use an API to get data, or scrape it yourself.

Slowly but surely you'll build up skills with Python. Then you'll realize that the skills are transferable between most languages.
