From what I have seen, the SOC L1 pathway introduces you to quite a few tools and what they're used for. It also dives into each of the sections/concepts a little bit. The L2 pathway goes into a deeper dive into other concepts as well.

most thm walkthrough rooms would include some form of hands on challenge. this includes rooms in presec/cybersec 101 pathway. these challenges are usually guided, meaning they'll tell you what you need to do. unguided challenges are available on the website too. however, if you are a complete beginner, i recommend completing till cybersec 101 at least, before proceeding with unguided challenges.
