Struggling to word what I want to say so I had to GPT it.

I feel stuck because I don't know how to effectively understand concepts that confuse me, like the OSI Model. A part of me feels pressured to completely grasp it before moving on to new lessons, but that would mean repeating the same material without making progress. At the same time, I’m banking on the idea that if I just push through these confusing rooms, I’ll eventually reach the hands-on stuff I really want to do, and that’s where it’ll all start to make sense.

Once I've completed all the tasks in a room, I mentally mark it as 'complete' and really struggle to go back and revisit it, even if I know I didn’t fully understand it. There’s also this frustration that even if I do take extra time to understand something or actually get it on the first try, I’ll just end up forgetting it later because it doesn’t get reinforced enough. The curve of forgetting makes me worry that once I move on to new concepts, I’ll lose what I just learned, and it’ll feel like all that extra effort was wasted.

Depending on what pathway you want to go down, certain concepts don't have to be memorized in full. As long as you are aware about its existence, you can always go back and research more on the topic.

For example: I plan to become a penetration tester (or bug bounty hunter, depending on my desires) in the future. While the OSI model is something I should remember with its many complexities, I don't see it as essential to my end goal.

On the other hand: You can always reset your progress on the room and try again and again. With certain rooms, you can download task files or open up the virtual machine, and just go through the workflow without inputting answers again. Repetition can help you memorize.
